Gryffindor Pride Try-Outs

Mike practically ran down to the Quidditch Pitch, noticing he had overslept. He had donned some muggle clothes, and his streak was in his hand. He apologised to both Captains, with a wink at Andromeda, and said hello to everyone else that was trying out. Mike waited patiently for the low-down of what they would be doing today, and Mike listened patiently when that news was delivered. Mike wrote his name down on the parchment when he was given it and then handed it to the next person that required it.

Mike wasn't really bothered about his 2nd position. He did have a beater's build, but wouldn't mind being any of the other 2 positions remaining. Shrugging it off, Mike watched in awe, everyone else's try-out. Mike waited until Hilary had her go, before placing his leg over his streak and kicking off from the ground. Mike soared into the air, and started at the South Scoring Area, before zooming off towards the NSA. Mike was flying against the wind, but Mike continued hoping that he was successful in retaining his position as Keeper. Mike could see the Golden hoops, he was getting closer and closer. Mike was recalling what Andromeda had told them to do. Mike remembered he needed to swerve in-between the hoops before flying back. He was finally upon the hoops, and so swerved in and out of all three, which was quite tiring but none the less he still persevered. Mike continued on his trek back to the SSA, but then he saw a bludger coming right towards him. Mike barrel rolled out of the way. He wasn’t accustomed to it, but it seemed like he had done it well as the bludger missed him. Continuing on his little flight, Mike saw the NSA golden hoops. Mike focused on them, with no more bludgers coming his way. Thank God Mike mused, not wanting to do another barrel roll. Mike approached the Golden hoops and got goal side of them watching out for any incoming quaffles.

He spotted one, and dived to his left, making a fingertip save, ending the quaffle’s flight in the air. Mike positioned himself again and noticed only one more heading for him. Mike caught the quaffle in his hand, and dropped it when he hit the floor. Mike looked at his time. 1 minute 30 seconds Mike told himself not sure if that was slow for someone trying out for keeper. Mike let Andromeda know of this time before waiting to see if anyone else was still left to try-out.

Taylor bolted down to the pitch. How could Quidditch try-outs have slipped her mind?! She scolded herself before stumbling slightly on a stone as she ran towards the pitch with her Nimbus 2001 on her shoulder. Thankfully she was much more skilled on a broom than on her feet. Noticing a fellow Gryffindor already in the air, Taylor slipped into the crowd of lions and watched the flyer taking their turn. It wasn't long before she recognised it as Aeon. Averting her eyes she slipped over to Andy and checked who had already had their turn. When Aeon came back down to the ground, Taylor took the opportunity to apologise for her lateness. "Shoot, sorry I'm so late Andy. Things have been a little hectic." She admitted with the utmost truth. She hadn't been feeling like her usual self since she was introduced to her Father's new girlfriend.

Biting her lip, Taylor turned her attention back to the try-outs, getting somewhat restless while waiting to get in the air herself. She watched as a boy took his turn. He was trying out for Seeker and it planted nerves in Taylor. He was good in the air. Taylor hadn't seen him before and guessed by his older appearance that he was an exchange student. Taylor had been prepared to get in the air, but after his performance, Taylor decided to hang back a bit so she wasn't compared so readily to the older boy. After that surprisingly Hilary got up. Taylor considered her quite brave in that moment, but she supposed she had been here a lot longer and the team knew her skills already. She did an awesome job, her time a little slower than most, but her ability to catch the snitch just as good. Taylor was even more opposed to the idea of taking her turn now so she hung back a little longer. Watching Mike take his turn before finally requesting to try-out.

Taylor wrote down her details and then threw a leg over her broom and shot off to the South end of the pitch. She had the trust of her fellow Gryffindors, but she doubted it would be enough to get her on the team. She had caught the snitch twice last year, but she hadn't won them the cup. She knew she could change that this year, so she hoped that she could win herself a place on the team again. Signally she was ready, she lay herself against her Nimbus 2001 and then shot forward as fast as she could. Speed was one of Taylor's best aspects on a broom, which was why she liked Seeker the best. She could use her skill to the best of her ability.

Tay's mind was in Quidditch mode, which is why she didn't even realise she had already pulled her broom to the left and flown cleanly around the hoops. Her eyes narrowed as she set out on a hunt for the snitch. She was aware of a few bludgers waiting to knock her off, but her main focus was the snitch. Her broom had slowed a fraction as to keep her eye out for the snitch. She didnt want to get to the other end of the pitch without catching it. Where are yo-, Taylor began to think, but a flicker of gold shut down all other thoughts and she was racing towards it at top speeds. It was flying lower than Taylor, so she went into an impressive dive. Pulling up before her broom collided with the ground. She reached out, the small ball right in front of her. Her right hand opened and she jerked her broom forward with her weight before her senses made her yank her hand back just in time to avoid it breaking as a bludger surged out of no where. It flew past audibly and Taylor cursed under her breath. The snitch moved to the left and abruptly stopped. Taylor's mind, still in Quidditch mode thought quickly, realising she wouldn't have time to stop her broom that was still flying at top speeds. Tay pushed her left hand out as her broom flew past the gold ball. Taylor gently slowed, her left hand feeling the satisfying cold metal of the snitch. Taylor grinned as she held it up, swerving her broom down and closing the small gap between herself and the ground.

Heading over to Andy, she checked her time. 2:09.12 it was better than the other Seekers, but she had to consider herself lucky for the stopping move the snitch pulled, otherwise her time wouldn't have been that good. "Awesome." She said, more to herself than anything. She felt proud of that score regardless. She settled herself down with her other team-mates, wondering if there was anyone else to try out.

Jas raced down to the quidditch pitch, following another Gryffindor in front of her. She was highly frustrated with herself as she had slept in, due to her, well not being able to get to sleep the night before. She gripped her Scarlett Streak in her hand, and hoped that she would get into the team. There was quite a lot of people, most who looked older that her. But it’s okay she reminded herself there is always next year anyways. At least she would figure out what tryouts were all about so that she could train for next year. She arrived in to the group, and blushing, walked up to the two girls, who obviously were running the tryouts.
“Sorry I’m so late” she said only loud enough so that the two girls could hear, she didn’t like to attract much attention. “Is there still room for trying out?” she asked concerned her eyes gazing up to where a student was about to try out. She decided to watch some people try out before she went. So in the meantime she signed the list.

[hi guys, sorry for late post! Will post her trying out tomorrow, can’t do it right now, parents kicking me off computer then watching me like a hawk :p]

Andy picked up her broom once more and let it hover so she could sit on it as she watched the try-outs. They were all very good, she couldn't believe how many were trying out for seeker, beaters and keeper positions and knew herself and Kat would have a really tough time picking a team from these. Not because they were awful but because they were so damned good. She smiled encouragingly at the few stragglers and was delighted to see another fresh face come to try-out. Looking at the clip-board once more Andy called out to the group.

"Ok you've all been doing brilliantly, I know you all probably have some place else to be but please bear with us for just a while longer. Ok I have Trevor and Jasmine to step up, which ever one of you wants to go first fire away. Just don't be nervous you'll be fine up there" she directed her last comment to Jasmine who had seemed slightly nervous about arriving late, "And we're just glad you showed up at all. Now remember on my whistle go for it".

If there was anything Trevor was naturally good at, it was Quidditch. In his second year at Hogwarts Scotland, he had earned himself beater position in the Gryffindor Quidditch team. And though that was so long ago, Trevor felt his skills had only developed since then. As he watched Kiera tryout doing a series of gymnastic moves in the air, Trevor smiled impressed.
"You were brilliant!" Trevor replied when his friend landed and asked him what he thought. With somewhat of a grin, Trevor continued to watch as the others continued with their tryouts, remaining silent and withdrawn, observing the competition.
Finally, when the line had thinned to a remaining two, Trevor clasped his hand more tightly around his broom trying to ignore the fact that he was becoming more evident of the presences of Kat and Kiera, before he nodded at Andromeda signaling that he was ready to go next. Silently and composed though a little nerve wracked, Trevor picked up a bat, mounted his broom then dug his feet into the cold earth with anticipation. He could do this, he was strong and the life he led was proof enough of that. Problem was however, that strength did not always compensate for courage. Kicking off the ground powerfully, Trevor swung his bat onto his shoulder as he flew to the Southern hoops of the Quidditch Pitch, his chest clogging with nervousness. I have been through worse than this, he told himself in an attempt to toughen up. And it was true. This was just a breeze, even if he should fail and humiliate himself. But he didn't want to think of that. He wanted to be here, living a normal life, even if it was pretentious.
Swinging the bat off his shoulder and turning to catch the eye of timekeeper Kat, Trevor nodded. He was ready, and this was it. Aligning the bat with his broom lengthwise, Trevor gripped hard as he leaned forward on his broom in stealth position and then shot off through the air. Rounding at the Northern end, Trevor gripped his broom and directed it left, right and left again as he passed around each of the respective goal hoops. Pulling on the handle of his broom once more, Trevor turned in the direction facing the Southern hoops and swung his bat once more onto his shoulder as he continued to fly forward more cautiously. Any minute now a nasty bludger was going to try and bludgeon him. But Trevor had been gifted with strength, and felt less than threatened.
Eyes peeled and focused, Trevor watched for anything heading his way, and just as he turned to his left, a bludger swooshed past and almost caught him unprepared. With one swift yet powerful swing, the echo of a loud whack resounded around him as the bludger flew into the opposite direction from where it came. But just as soon as the first was hit and gone, the second came whirling around his other side, and Trevor found himself a challenge in swinging his bat back again to make it meet the enemy with just as timely force as before. Drifting off again with the second echo of another boom, Trevor watched as the menace ball flew past the house stands, a wide grin pasted onto his face.
As he came closer to the Southern hoops, eyes still scanning for the furious return of the bludgers, Trevor closed in and turned to defensive mode as he positioned himself as Keeper, dropping the bat down to the clear ground beneath him. The first quaffle came nice and easy, and though Trevor was not built for speed, he managed to catch the save easily. As the second quaffle closed in on his left hoop, Trevor swerved the tail of his broom far enough to hit the quaffle away, grinning as he made the second save. But as the last throw was released to the hoop on his far right, Trevor was caught off guard, distance and his disadvantage with speed throwing him off. With disappointment he watched his hands close around nothing but air, the third and final quaffle throw going straight through the hoop and the likely chance of him making Keeper. Damn, he breathed as he turned on his broom regrettably.
Nevertheless, grinning in spite of the loss, Trevor dove for landing and touched ground next to Kat. He felt confident that he had done well enough, having sent both bludgers reeling off into the distance and probably still somewhere trying to recover and come back to game.
"How did I do?" he asked Kat as he peered over her shoulder at the stopwatch. "1:39:03. Awesome," Trevor said, punching the air with triumph. It was a good time considering he was not one for speed. Gripping the handle of his broom, Trevor used his free hand to wipe the sweat from his brow. It had been a good run, this tryout, and he was at least happy with his performance, if not proud.

Kat watched Trevor intently as he performed his tryout. He was excellent when it came to playing beater and she knew that she, Kiera, and Andy would be lucky to have him covering their back during games. When he landed Kat smiled at him and said, "Awesome job! Nice flying!" She noted his time on the clipboard next to his name.

[ok sorry Jas but everyone was given plenty of time to post up. Kat and Andy will make the team cut and we'll post it up in the common room when it's done. make sure you all post up leaving the pitch as well ;) thanks guys ]

Andy blew the whistle and called time once Trevor landed, it was getting late. Very late and she didn't want them flying in the dark.
"Ok you guys that's a rap" she got her wand and tapped the trunk opening it up and waiting for the balls to return to their rightful places. She was half tempted to take off up there again but restrained herself just about.
"Anyone want to give me a hand carrying down the trunk? the first one to suggest using my wand will get to do 20 laps around the pitch" she grinned bending to take the handle of one side.

Kiera congratulated Trevor as he landed. She smiled as Andy called it a day. Kiera looked at her watch. She was supposed to have met Alex a half hour ago. She waved goodbye and called out to her friends, telling them goodbye. Kiera quickly left the pitch and headed off to find Alex.

Kida heard the whistle blow and she looked around to see Andy who had called the Try outs to an end Kida looked at her watch and he eyes widened she had been here for so long, Kida picked up her broom and her bat "I'll help you carry the bats back" she said as she picked up some of the spare bats which some people had used "some people just check them and hope that no one will notice" she said as she helped carry them over to the shed.

Coming to notice the dismissal, Noah had a quick look around and gave a kind wave to every one before making his departure. It had taken a little bit longer then he thought for the try outs to come to their conclusion. Walking on up to the castle again, Noah got right onto some of his homework.

Andy smiled and thanked Trevor for coming to help her lift the trunk then turned to see Kida helping with the bats. Herself and Kat would really have a tough call this year, there was no doubt about that.
"Thanks Kida" she gave a wave to Noah as he left, knowing that there wasn't one of these kids that hadn't done well today was a bit of a stroke of luck, tough on the decision that they would have to make of course but they surely couldn't go wrong with any of them.

Once the trunk was placed in the shed, she waited for Kida to put the bats away before locking it up.
"Thanks again guys".

As he sat on the ground, Ruki watched his fellow students try out for their chosen positions within the team. His confidence wavered a little, each time someone tried for seeker. A voice in-side told him to stop trying; that he was a failure; he would never be as good as them.

Ruki shook his head as a whistle blew. Hearing Andromeda call the end of try-outs, Ruki clambered to his feet; and made his way from the pitch, back to his dorm-room. He was tired, and un-interested.

After watching others try out and do better, she felt they had done better than she had. Hilary was nervous. It was likely that she wouldn't get to play much this year either. Shrugging and leaving in in the hands of her new co-captains she walked away from the pitch letting her mind drift to the work she had to do that was beginning to pile up.
