Fourth Years, Lesson One

Professor Wolf sat at the desk, his cane leaning against one of the sides. He let the students settle, watching them with the sharp gaze of someone who had seen hundreds of classes before them. After a moment, he gave a single, firm clap of his hands to call the room to order and then took his time standing up, grabbing his cane before taking a step forward, his limp quite obvious.

"Good morning," he said, his gravelly voice carrying easily across the room. "I am Professor Wolf, one of the schools regular substitutes. I’ll be teaching you for this semester and then you'll be moving on to a new professor. While I expect discipline and effort in this classroom, I also expect mistakes — that is how you learn. But make no mistake, I do not tolerate laziness." With a flick of his wand, chalk rose and scrawled his name neatly across the board.

"We’re going to begin by reviewing what you’ve learned so far. I want each of you to tell me a charm you studied in your first three years. Speak clearly. No mumbling." He pointed at a student, waiting for their answer. When they responded correctly, he gave a short nod. "Good. Ten points to you."

Professor Wolf moved through the classroom, calling on students at random. Some earned more points for particularly thorough answers, others just a brief grunt of approval. Yet each reply, no matter how clumsy, received acknowledgment. When the round of answers was finished, he returned to the front of the room. With a sharp flick of his wrist, the chalk rose again, listing the charms for the semester in crisp handwriting.

"These are the spells we’ll cover this term. By the end of it, I expect you not only to know them, but to use them with confidence. I will also expect each of you in my office before our next class, if you feel that you need any help. My door is open from breakfast until dinner. Come prepared to tell me what you want from this subject, and I’ll see how best I can help you." He gave the class one last look, his expression unreadable, before finally allowing the corner of his mouth to twitch into the barest hint of a smile. "Pick up a copy of your reading list before you go. Next week, we begin proper wand work. Dismissed."

RP the lesson. House points to those that answer the questions.

On the board, the following charms were listed:
  • Confundus Charm
  • Amplifying Charm
  • Quieting Charm
  • Muffliato Charm
  • Silencing Charm
  • Bubble-Head Charm
  • Drought Charm

Henri walked into the charms classroom and took his usual spot in the room. he frowned at the professor at the front of the room, it wasn't who'd he'd expected. He took out his notes and his wand and placed them down on the desk, knowing he'd need the former over the latter. He listeed to the professor and then was picked to speak. "Accio, summoning charm," he said and then someone else spoke and eventually they'd covered most of the spells. The professor told them what they'd be covering in the semester before dismissing them. Henri packed up and headed out of the room.

Theo was excited about charms. He couldn't wait to learn more spells. The Ravenclaw quickly packed the things he needed for the lesson and headed to his charms classroom. Once he arrived, he took a seat in one of the middle rows. He took out his things and placed them on the desk in front of him before moving his attention towards the professor.

It wasn't long before the professor started off with the lesson. He listened closely, nodding along from time to time to what the professor was saying. It wasn't long until they had to go around and state the charms and spells they learnt the last few years. He listened closely to what his classmates were saying, keeping note in his head, as well as the familiar spells being said, coming back to him. It wasn't long before it was Theo's turn to state one. "Uh, Alohamora," Theo said quickly yet clearly, trying to think of one quick, and his classmates continued to state some more. It wasn't long before they moved on to another part of the lesson. The professor went on to talk about the charms they were learning about this year, which was quite exciting for Theo. Theo made sure to take note of what was being shown as well as what had been said.

It wasn't long before the lesson had come to an end and they were dismissed. Theo quickly packed up his things as well as his area. He says a quick yet appreciative thanks and goodbye to the professor before heading out of the class with his friends and the rest of his classmates.

A substitute professor was waiting in what was supposed to be Professor Blade’s classroom when Lincoln arrived for his first charms lesson of the new semester. He took his seat and listened as Professor Wolf talked them through the spells they would be learning during the year, and Lincoln made notes of them so he could know what he was facing each lesson. Once the lesson was over, he packed up his things and left the classroom.

Miles arrived right on time for his first charm lesson, settling into his usual seat near the middle of the classroom. He was a little surprised to see it was a substitute teacher and now their usual Professor, but he supposed it didn't make too much of a difference. He wasn't expecting to actually learn anything in the first lesson, so he wasn't all too surprised when the substitute only wanted to review what they had already learned before going over what the next lessons would entail. It was an easy enough lesson to follow along with and Miles didn't have much trouble keeping up. Then, once they had all been dismissed, he gathered his things together and exited the classroom.

Mania hadn't done her best in the second semester last year but she was going to make up for it this year. The fourth year had only taken lessons that interested her and those she thought would benefit her in the future. Charms fell somewhere in between the two, while she found it fun learning the Charms it wasn't her favourite subject but she was sure it'd benefit her in the long run.

Taking a seat next to one of her classmates, being a social butterfly she wasn't too picky who she sat with, she gave a smile to the person and a small hi before focusing on the professor. It wasn't a huge surprise when they were going over things they'd learned in the last three years and Nia listened to everyone elses answers, raking her brain for anything that hadn't been said yet when it was her turn. "Oh um.... Incendio? The fire charm?" She said remembering the lesson they'd learned it. She'd always found fire to be beautiful and the charm in itself was cool or maybe one should say hot? Either or really she wasn't too picky.

By the end of the class Nia packed her things up and made a mental note to read through the charm list as she picked one up on her way out.

Tessaria was looking forward to a new semester, however she didn't really enjoy classes all that much. At least she had earned a position on the Quidditch team this time. She was very excited about it and couldn’t wait for her first game. She was glad that she never gave up on it. With a smile on her face, the Gryffindor packed her belongings into her backpack before heading to her classes.

Tess entered the charms classroom and nodded in greeting at the professor. He introduced himself as a substitute professor and then he started going around the classroom asking the students what spells they had learnt in their first three years. Tess wasn't even sure there were enough spells to cover everyone. She also wondered what the whole point of it was. Perhaps the professor wanted everyone to help him catch up. When the spotlight came on her, Tess shrugged. "The levitation charm, Wingardium Leviosa." She wasn't sure if she needed to say the incantation, but she did so anyway.

Once this was done, the professor wrote a list of the spells they would be learning throughout that semester. Most of it seemed to do with volume, like the quieting charm and the amplifying charm. Tess wondered what the point of learning the spells were. With a shrug, she left the classroom once dismissed.

Autumn was looking forward to going back to Hogwarts but was most definitely not looking forward to classes. She didn’t like the idea of having to study as she felt it was going to be a big waste of her time. Most of what she would learn, she would learn in everyday life. What did it matter for her to learn about the wizarding world’s history, or how to brew a potion she was never going to make? She packed her backpack with a sour look on her face and almost had to drag herself to her first class for the semester.

Autumn entered the charms classroom and took a seat within the room. The professor introduced himself before then asking the class what charms they had learnt in their previous years. Autumn thought this rather pointless, unless these questions were going to come up in their fourth year exams. Truthfully, Autumn was just here to learn some spells. When it was her turn, Autumn said simply. "Lumos." and was happy when the professor was satisfied and moved on. Eventually the class came to an end and Autumn promptly headed out.
