Fourth Years, Lesson One

Landon sat back in his chair as he watched the newly fourth years enter the greenhouse. He had quite enjoyed teaching them all last year and was excited for this year where they would be learning some interesting stuff if they were willing to learn. Despite this, he was also going to be sad to watch them leave and pass them on to Professor Castillo next year and was eager to make the most of it while it lasted.

Landon quickly took the roll call before starting the lesson. ”Hello, fourth years! This is the final year before you begin your OWLs which is the second most difficult exam at Hogwarts.” The man paused as he smiled around at his students. "This semester we shall be focusing on St. Mungo's. I do not like to say this, but it will mainly consist of lectures. I will try my best to make it as fun as possible for you though, so don't fret!"

"St. Mungo's, or St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, is the only Wizarding Hospital in Britain and is located in London. Most would never guess that the there is a close connection between the hospital and Herbology, but they go hand in hand! Herbology supplies them with ingredients needed for their potions and ointments. This year, we will be providing them with the plants that we grow and harvest ourselves. Also, we will supply the school nurse with a small supply as well."
he said, hoping some of his students were interested in this. "For homework, please write a least a paragraph on what you know about St. Mungo's. If you're lucky, this will be the only assignment for the year, but I won't promise that. From this point onward I would like to see you all trying your best so you can hopefully do Herbology again next year. When you are ready, you may leave."

Assignment: RP the lesson. Do the homework assigned for extra credit.

Alana wasn’t sure why they were studying St Mungos so closely in Herbology. She knew the greenhouses supplied things to the hospital, but it didn’t seem like something they needed to know about, especially since it was going to be a semester full of lectures. It was so unlike herbology. She took notes, though she suspected not as many as she would in later lessons. She just made sure she got the details down about St Mungos and some of the things they would be working on during the semester, and the homework, of course. Once the lesson was over, Alana packed up her things and exited the classroom.

Cyrus was cautiously excited for classes this semester. Fourth year meant that this would be his last year with a lot of his teachers, and he was looking forward to seeing what new things they would teach this semester. He hoped to stay on top of things a little better than he had last year, and he hoped it would help him prepare for next year, which he did feel anxious about.

The Ravenclaw made his way to the Herbology greenhouse. After entering the classroom, he slid his bag off his shoulder as he took a seat at one of the desks. He took out a notebook and quill to take notes on the lesson. Professor Carter started off by reminding them of the OWLs next year, which seemed to be something all the professors were doing. They would be covering St. Mungo's this year, apparently. It wasn't the most exciting subject, but Cyrus supposed it was important. He noted down the homework, then left the classroom once they were dismissed.

Homework:

St. Mungo's is a magical hospital, there is one in New Zealand as well as England. In St. Mungo's they treat magical patients for many things, such as mishaps with spells or potions, creature induced injuries or magical illnesses. People who work there are called healers, they've studied to make people better again.

Rosalind entered the greenhouse, excited for what they'd be learning this semester. She sat down and got out her supplies and readied herself to take notes. Apparently they'd be covering St Mungo's, which was sort of interesting. Not as interesting as actual plants but she was sure plants would come into it. She took down notes as the professor spoke, doing a few doodles as she did so. It seemed like there would be a lot to do with plants after all. As the lesson drew to a close, she took down the homework and went on her way.

St Mungo's is a hospital in both the United Kingdom and in New Zealand. If something goes wrong magically, that's where you go to get it sorted out. My aunt and uncle are healers, which is the name of the people who work at the hospitals. At muggle hospitals they're called doctors. I don't know why they are called different things because their jobs are very similar.
