Open after Cyndi posts with Jacob

Rita Smile had not felt this excited in a long time. Okay, that's not true. My acceptance letter made me pretty happy. She stood several feet away from the entrance with her hands stuffed in her pockets. Her eyes focused on the ground while she rocked back and forth on the balls of her feet. Kengi had tried to get her to hang out with him near the lake during the ball. Thankfully, she had already asked Jacob to go with her, so she had a legitimate reason to reject him. She glanced around to see if Jacob was near, but she would not be surprised if he couldn't find her because she was so far away from the doors.

Jacob would t have been able to say no to Rita even if he wanted to, which he hadn't. Her request for him to accompany her to the ball was cute, and he knew it would probably earn him some brownie points with Kengi so really it was a win-win situation. And it wasn't like Eleanor would want him to accompany her. That didn't mean he wasn't keeping an eye on his little sister anyway, but he was not going to stand in the way of her independence.

The teen had done a lap inside but Rita wasn't there so he'd stepped out again to look outside again. Jacob had on a pair of black slacks and a silly Christmas sweater, much more casual than his schoolmates. He kept looking around, finally spotting her. Jacob drew near. "Why are you hiding, Rita?" he smiled. Jacob had a small box in his hand, a flower, blue as Ravenclaw's colors inside. "For you" his grin widened as he held it out.

Rita yelped softly when Jacob revealed himself. How didn't I think he would already be inside?! She was already frustrated with herself. I'm not hiding! She pouted. Rita looked down at the small gift in Jacob's hand and smiled. She opened it and gasped at the beautiful blue corsage inside. "How lovely!" she smiled brightly. Rita did not care for tradition and having Jake put it on for her, so she carefully put the flower on her wrist. "thank you." she whispered. She had not done well in most of her classes because her nerves would get to her, but she also was not trying hard enough. What good would it do anyway?

Rita grabbed Jacob's hand to borrow some confidence and dragged him through the doors of the Great Hall. She stopped to take in the sight. There was a cool breeze. The music shifted from elegant to explosive easily, and she could NOT miss the huge Christmas tree. She looked up to Jacob, curious to what called to him first, but her gaze quickly returned to the tree.

Jacob was happy that she seemed to like the corsage and put it on right away. When she grabbed his arm and pulled him towards the doors, Jacob allowed himself to be dragged easily. It was fun to see the ball through the eyes of someone who hadn't been to one before, and Jacob was glad he'd agreed to accompany Rita.

As she looked around, he noticed that her gaze kept falling to the tree. Jacob leaned a little closer. "Sometimes they even put real gift under them. Wanna check?" he gave her elbow a nudge. Dancing could be fun and the snacks were always worth a turn or two around the table, but he was fine doing anything.

Rita smiled and practically ran over to the tree. She was glad Jacob wasn't annoyed with her. Kengi was used to Rita's quiet nature, but others found it frustrating, and Rita was only confident enough to speak in French despite English being her first language. Rita zoomed around the tree a few times before a glittery green box caught her eye. She picked it up and showed it to Jacob. "Let's open it?" she suggested lightly. She set the box on the table wiping her hands on her shirt to get the green glitter off. The present was perfectly wrapped, and she didn't want to risk ruining the pretty paper. "Um, the wrapping is pretty," she said. She was not comfortable enough to ask him if he knew a spell to unwrap the gift. Rita did not want to make him mad. "I don't want to rip it..."
