Oscar smiled when there was only one more rose left in his bucket. A red one. He hadn't planned for it to be his last rose but with the number of yellows in his bucket, it just kind of happened. He knew who he was supposed to look for, thankfully, though only because he had made sure that he knew who the people with certain positions. A Slytherin prefect called Sydney Townsend. He decided to look for Sydney at the Slytherin table first in the hope that he could stay in the Great Hall afterwards. ''Sydney Townsend, is Sydney Townsend around?'' he called out.

Sydney usually tried to avoid the hall on Valentine's, wanting to limit her exposure to all the noise and nonsense that came from all the roses, but unfortunately she did need to eat eventually.

She'd hoped to make it in and out quickly, but she'd only just started eating when she heard someone calling her name. Sydney didn't know what was different this year that apparently people had decided to suddenly start sending her roses; Jasper was the only person she'd consider a friend who was graduating so she was uncertain who else would bother to suddenly feel so sentimental. "Over here, hurry up," Sydney called to the deliverer, not bothering to finish chewing as she waved him over.

Oscar quickly made his way over to where Sydney was sitting and smiled once he stood next to the older girl. ''I'm sorry to bother you,'' he said when he noticed that she was still eating. ''I'll make it quick, then.'' Unlike his other deliveries, he didn't need to check the name on the notes in order to be sure that he was giving the correct roses, as this was his only red rose. ''Alright, here you go,'' Oscar said when he handed her the red rose.

Sydney scowled when the deliverer reached her and she saw the colour of the rose. She'd already gotten one unexpected rose and she doubted Emily had sent her two. She grabbed the note with a certain level of caution, feeling her blood boil as she skimmed it. "Right," she said tersely, stomping to her feet before lobbing the rose in a high arc over the hall, exploding it with a sharply thrown reducto charm. "Watch your back, Newton!" She called across the hall, certain that whether or not Michael was here, he'd hear about it from one of his little Gryffindor cronies. (@Michael Newton)
