Fifth Years: Lesson Two

Professor Kalif Styx leaned against his desk as the students started to arrive on time. That was expected, since he was never late, and he expected the same from the students. Should they be late, he would promptly show them the exit. His time was not to be wasted after all. He looked at the time and saw that there was just a few seconds left so he gestured his hand to shut the door. He took out his wand and conjured several chalk board erasers. With another wave of his wand, each eraser went out to land on each students' desks. It was a bit obvious what they would be vanishing today. Styx put his wand away and cleared his throat to start the lesson and to get the fifth years' attention.

"You might have already guessed it, but you will be vanishing those erasers. They are simple, inanimate objects. They will not move, nor do they breathe. Therefore, you should not have an issue with vanishing this. The spell, again, is Evanesco. The wand movement is the standard three tap method." Styx took out his wand once more, and conjured an eraser on the empty desk in front of him. He used the three tap method, and then, "Evanesco." The eraser vanished. "You do not need to say what you are vanishing, but you must focus on it. If you don't, then you will vanish the wrong thing, or nothing at all."

Styx gestured with his free, gloved hand, "Now, practice. If you want to vanish more, than you may come and ask for me to conjure more erasers. Other than that, when you are finished vanishing the erasers and nothing else, then you are free to leave. Only after the entire eraser is gone." Styx decided to conjure a few extra erasers so that the students, if they wanted, would not ask him over and over. Now, that would be annoying.
Assignment: RP the lesson.

Fraser wasn’t sure how well he’d do in his OWLs, before he might’ve tried but he was busy, busy with his quidditch and accio and there wasn’t a lot more he could do with his time. Studying was boring and he was bad at it, so he knew he should stick to things he could do, especially now that he could really do the things he wanted to do. The gryffindor was getting himself together, grabbing his books and notes and then heading out of the dorm room and to the first class of the day. His quidditch stuff with him so he could go do that immediately after.

Fraser walked into the transfiguration classroom and took his usual spot in the room. His gaze moved to the professor at the front of the class and listened as he began going over what they would do, and importantly what they would do it on. The lecture itself wasn’t over long and then the professor was moving on, giving them each an eraser and letting them just get to it. He took his wand, pointed it at the eraser and thought about how the spell would work before saying. ”Evanesco,” It took fraser most of the lesson to get it, but he did eventually get it. He packed up his things and headed out of the room.

Hinata was maybe looking forward to Transfiguration class just a little. The coverage was pretty interesting, so she was kind of looking forward to trying out the spell after her inquiry from the last class was addressed. Still, she found the dimly lit classroom a bit unnerving, but she supposed the professors had freedom on how their classrooms looked. The lesson began without any preamble as Hina watched an eraser land on her desk. She watched the demonstration attentively and took a breath as the eraser disappeared. She tried to calm herself as she drew her wand and stared hard at the eraser. Tapping it three times, she whispered, "Evanesco." The eraser wobbled and she could see that the corner was now a little chipped, or maybe that was her imagination. She tried again. "Evanesco," she intoned more firmly, and the eraser vanished. Well. About two-thirds of it anyway. She looked around and it at least seemed that the room had varying levels of success. She tried the spell again a couple of times with varying degrees of success until she managed to vanish the remains of her eraser. Hina doubted however that that was what the professor meant when he said "only after the entire eraser is gone". And so she stood and hesitantly approached to grab another eraser and make her way back to her desk with haste. Thankfully, now that she'd managed the spell twice (sort of), she found it easier and the entire eraser disappeared with one "Evanesco." She left the classroom satisfied with her performance.

The first week of lessons was done and June felt like she had it all under control. She was prepared for the second week of lessons and liked most of the classes. She was also glad that her patrolling partner didn't seem to be the worst and she wasn't the worst choice so far. And her duties didn't stood her studies in the way. So far so good. And she wanted to work very hard this year, better than last. June was critical to her performance from last year, so worked twice as hard now.

The blonde made her way to the classroom and found her usual spot in the front. June always brought along her wand, but this time it was even more important. The blonde noticed an eraser landing on her desk and this seemed obvious they needed to vanish this thing. June felt confident and wanted to impress the professor. The three tap method was something familliar and in that way the blonde knew what she had to do. She watched the professor perform it in front of them and made sure she saw all he did. When it was time to perform it themselves the blonde concentrated and took her wand. It had to be perfect so the blonde made sure she did the three tap method and said the right incantation. '' Evanesco.'' June said focused and thought about what she wanted to happen. As she watched she noticed the eraser was gone. Where it was was the question, but it wasn't on her desk anymore at least. June smiled bright and took another with the professor to try again until the time was over. And she could leave the room.

Mikael arrived in the Transfiguration classroom and took a seat. It was a sort of relief that the first week of classes were done, so most of the classes he had going on were starting to delve into practical work. It seemed that Transfiguration was no different as no sooner than Professor Styx shut the door, an eraser had made its way into his desk much like all the other students in the class. He watched as the professor explained and demonstrated the task for the day. He pulled out his wand as he observed the eraser. He grabbed the eraser first and examined it closely from different angles before setting it down. The wand movements at least needed no practice. He focused on the object in front of him - the eraser - and tapped it with his wand three times in quick succession. "Evanesco," he intoned clearly. While he expected that he was not going to get it on the first try, he was still satisfied when he'd vanished all but a quarter of the eraser. Then again, it seemed that the professor had thought of varying degrees of success anyway. He tried the spell a second time, which vanished the rest of the eraser. He took another eraser however to try again. At least with that, he managed to vanish the eraser in one go and was free to leave.

The second week was always one full of content, and it would keep Horror’s attention. At least, Horror Zhefarovich hoped so. It was hard to keep his attention nowadays. He was always bored. Not much remained in his mind for long, with the exception of just one person. Horror had things to do, and studying did help keep his mind going. He often had other books that he studied from because of his interests. None of his interests were taught in school after all. Anatomy was huge with Horror. It was a shame that they did not teach it though. He saw the time, and realized that he had to get up and get going or he was going to be late for class. At least he had everything in his bag, ready to go. He finished getting dressed, and left the dorms.

Horror entered the classroom with his usual quiet demeanor and settled in. He noted Styx’s methodical approach: a clear explanation of the task, demonstration of the spell, and a straightforward instruction for practice. The atmosphere was orderly, which was typical for Styx’s classes. Horror appreciated the efficiency but noted the rigid nature of the instruction. Horror watched as Styx demonstrated the spell. The professor’s precise and deliberate movements were effective. The eraser on Styx’s desk vanished without a trace, leaving only the empty space behind. As the students began their practice, Horror observed their efforts with an analytical eye. Some were clearly struggling, their focus wavering as they attempted the spell. Others seemed to grasp the technique more easily, their erasers vanishing with relative success.

The lesson was straightforward, but there was an underlying tension in the room, a sense of seriousness that was typical for Styx’s classes. When the class neared its end, his own task complete, Horror could see that some students had already completed their task as well, and took up more. He left after just vanishing one.

The introductory lesson was done, so now Loki Styx looked forward to the actual dive into the material at hand. He had everything he needed in his bag. He just needed to get dressed and maintain his hair. He looked a lot like his mother now that he thought about it. The dark hair and light colored eyes. Though the Styx family often had silver or onyx. Still, it seemed that he resembled the Burke side of the family. It was not a bad thing. Loki gazed at the time and saw that he needed to head out. The long walk would be hellish. Even he hated it. Loki also did not trust anyone in his year to accompany him to the classroom. He was picky with his circle of people after all. He was a Styx. That mattered a lot. It carried a heavy burden and privilege in his eyes.

Loki entered the classroom, his posture straight and his eyes scanning the room with a critical, yet composed expression. He took his seat at the back. The sternness in his father’s demeanor was clear, and Loki felt a mixture of respect and pressure to meet those high expectations. He watched as his father demonstrated the spell, noting the precision required to ensure the object vanishes completely without affecting anything else. When the erasers floated to each student’s desk, Loki picked his up with a practiced hand. Loki’s first attempt was smooth. He held his wand steady and tapped the eraser three times, clearly focusing on the object. “Evanesco,” he murmured, and the eraser vanished into thin air. It was clear that his father expected high standards, and he was determined to meet them. As he walked out, he reflected on how he could apply the same level of concentration and care to his other studies.

Alicia had gotten used to Hogwarts more and more. She was glad she had made the Gryffindor Quidditch team, even if was as an alternate, she was eager to be a part of the team. She was looking forward to the match this weekend, even though she knew she probably wouldn't get to play.

The Gryffindor made her way to the Transfiguration classroom and took her seat. The professor started the lesson by conjuring chalk board erasers and flying them over to their desks, Alicia guessed that was what they were going to be vanishing today, something the professor soon confirmed. Apparently, it was easier to do because they were inanimate objects that wouldn't move on their own, which made sense. The professor showed them how to do it, using the three-tap method. Alicia was glad they got to practice quickly and she got to work. It took her a long time to be able to do it, she saw a few of her classmates were definitely faster. She thankfully managed it before the lesson was over, but she didn't have time to ask for a new one to try some more. Alicia left the classroom once they were dismissed, glad she had managed the spell in the end.

Bailey took her seat in Professor Styx's Transfiguration class, feeling the usual tension that accompanied his lessons. She watched him with quiet focus as he conjured erasers onto each student's desk, knowing the challenge ahead. The Vanishing Spell was no small feat, but she felt prepared. After the previous lessons explanation, she had practiced the incantation and wand movements in her spare time.

When Professor Styx demonstrated the spell, Bailey paid close attention to his technique. She noted his precision and the calm focus in his movements. Once the demonstration was complete, she looked at the eraser on her desk and gripped her wand firmly. She took a breath, recalling the three-tap method, and with a steady voice whispered, "Evanesco." The eraser in front of her wavered slightly before partially vanishing, leaving a faint trace behind. Bailey frowned in concentration, reminding herself to focus more clearly on the task at hand. She tapped the eraser again, repeating the spell, and watched as the object faded from view completely.

A sense of satisfaction welled up inside her, but she knew she had to be thorough. Bailey practiced with a few more erasers, ensuring she could vanish each one fully without leaving any traces behind. She felt her confidence growing with each success. Once she was certain that she had successfully completed the task, Bailey packed up her things and glanced around the room, noticing some of her classmates still working. With a nod to herself, she left the classroom, feeling accomplished and more confident in her abilities going forward.

Gemma wasn't sure how difficult vanishing must be. It had to be enough to focus on it for the whole year and their OWL year nonetheless. The Slytherin girl had read a bit about it to prepare before this week but she wasn't sure she was quite ready. Only time would tell, as she entered the Transfiguration classroom. Her eyes took a few minutes to adjust before she found her seat and took it. A few more moments passed before the lesson began.

No long lecture or anything. The professor conjured erasers for them. The little pink eraser sat on her desk as Gemma listened to the professor's short words. It reminded her of the one from Muggle Studies class, but now was not the time to draw that connection. Gemma picked up the eraser and examined it. She wanted to know all the parts. She flipped it over in her hand until she felt she had a clear image in her mind. She closed her eyes for a moment, attempting to picture the eraser. She had it. Thankfully it was a simple item.

Gemma placed the eraser back on her desk. She took out her wand. She had the image in her mind, visualizing the eraser disappearing. She tapped it three times. 'Evanesco" she said. The eraser disappeared in front of her eyes. She tapped the desk with her hand almost thinking she would find an invisible version of it. Nope. The erasers was gone. She had vanished it. That wasn't too bad she thought as she packed up her things and left the Transfiguration classroom.
