Fifth Years, Lesson Six

"I am very pleased with the results from most of your quizzes; I believe you all will do fine on your OWLs. I expect the best effort from each and every one of you."


He looked to the windows, and as planned, it was raining heavily outside. "Now, students, we will not be using a charm of a destructive nature today; rather, we will be using one that proves to be quite useful. Luckily, this spell can be used on anything; whether it be your face, your glasses, what have you."


"Today, after we cast this spell, you are going to be going outside into the rain, and I promise you will see the effects of this spell. The spell we are going to be learning today is Impervious."


Professor Haden paced as he pulled out a jacket, waving his wand and stating, "Impervius." A slight glow appeared around his jacket and then disappeared. "Now, students, cast this spell at an object, any object. If you are not confident in your abilities, I suggest you cast Impervious on an object or thing you are not afraid to get wet."


Once all of the students had cast the spell, or at least tried, Professor Haden led them out of the classroom, and in no time they were outside, the students somewhat tentative about bringing their things into the downpour. Without a worry, Misha stepped into the rain, his hair immediately becoming soaked. However, his jacket seemed to have a barrier around it; repelling the water perfectly and leaving the article of clothing perfectly dry.


He watched as the students examined their things, most of them remaining dry and repelling water also. Bellowing over the resounding downpour, Misha spoke, "You see, Impervious repels water. If you wish to keep an object dry, or yourself, for that matter, you need only cast this spell. I have heard it is quite useful in Quidditch matches with rather unfavorable weather conditions; also useful for keeping glasses dry or if you have forgotten an umbrella."


Leading his students back to the classroom, Misha's short hair was still sopping as the students gathered their things. "I wish you all the best on your OWLs. I cannot emphasize enough, study, study, study, practice, practice, practice. Have a lovely break, I hope to see you again next year as sixth year"

Callie walked into the charms classroom and was a little surprised that they wouldn’t immediately be going to revision. It was all that she wanted. She knew charms was going to be a difficult subject and her theory wasn’t quite there. But she listened and took some notes on what the professor said about the spell, before they were allowed to try the spell. She took her wand and cast it on her bag, doing it a couple of times since she couldn’t see if it had worked. She then followed the class outside or to the entrance hall. She watched the professor step out and then did the same, seeing immediately that the spell had worked.

Enoch walked into the charms classroom and took his spot in the room. He rolled his eyes at what the professor said on the quizzes, as if they’d had much choice on the matter. He listened to what the professor said, thinking this was actually a pretty useful spell to know. He listened to the professors words on it befor ehtey were allowed to cast it. He took the time to do so and then headed to where they would test it. He let most others go before him before then stepping out and being glad it had worked.

 

[Friday Weeks]

Friday walked into the charm classroom, pretty eage rto already be done with the class. But no such luck. The professor began going over a spell and Friday was vaguely listening to what was being said. She cast the spell when she was allowed to and then headed to the entrance hall where the professor then told them to step out into the rain. Friday did it, if only to show that her spell had worked quickly and then be able to immediately leave - which she did.

 

[Lucy Montague]

Lucy was expecting a revision lesson but was pleasantly surprised to see they'd be learning a new spell. It was one that seemed very useful indeed, so she tried casting it on her clothes. She then went outside to test it and found, to her infinite joy, that it had worked. It felt strange to know it was raining and yet her clothes weren't getting wet. Her hair and skin, unfortunately, were, so she went back inside. Lucy thanked the professor for the year's lessons and then went on her way.

 

[Teddy Pirrip]

Teddy arrived for Charms class expecting a revision session, but instead they were learning a new spell that made items water repellant. It sounded like a useful spell for a number of reasons but especially when playing Quidditch in the rain. Teddy took out his wand and cast "Impervious" on his quill first, then he tried it on his robes and bag which was much more useful, it was in fact a huge game changer for whenever it was raining. Teddy put away his wand and followed Professor Haden outside in the rain to test out the spell effects which did keep Teddy dry. Once they were allowed to, Teddy left and returned to the library to study more.

 

[Dante Styx]

Dante Styx had a lot of studying to do, and this was the week to do it. He had some plans ready when he was out of here. He could spend some time with his family, though he was still a little angry with his mother for what he had to go through this year. He would likely not forgive her for it. Not for a long time. He got up and left the Slytherin house, still a little steamed about it. Dante walked in the Charms classroom and sat down. Professor Haden said that they would be using a spell that would repell water. So, this was what people used to play Quidditch in the rain. He cast it on his cloak. They went outside and he saw that his spell worked on the top half. Did he not cover the whole thing? Probably not but at least his head was dry. He would have to keep practicing with that one, that was for sure.​

 

[Marley Owens-Lee]

Marley walked into her charms classroom and took a seat in her usual spot. She then took out the things she needed for the lesson and placed them on the desk in front of her. The Hufflepuff couldn't believe how fast the semester was going, they were pretty much on their last lesson. And it wasn't going to be long until they were doing their OWLs. Marley moved her attention towards the professor as the professor began the lesson. Marley was fully expecting another quiz portion of the lesson and maybe have a revision lesson, but was caught by surprise when she found out that they weren't going to be doing that. They were, in fact, learning a new spell.

Marley didn't mind learning a new spell; she seemed intrigued with what they were learning, and she followed along with what the professor had to say about the spell. Marley made sure to make notes on the spell that the professor was telling them, nodding along from time to time to show that she was understanding the content that was being given. It wasn't long before it was their turn to try. Marley tried a few different belongings of hers, and she had managed to get the spell right, which Marley was pleased with. She then followed the professor inside and, of course, the things managed to stay intact and dry, which Marley was happy with.

It wasn't long before the lesson had come to an end and they were dismissed. Marley quickly packed up her things as well as tidy up her area. She says a quick and appreciative thanks and goodbye to the professor before heading out of the classroom with her friends and the rest of her classmates, pleased with that she had learned in charms this semester. All she needed to do now, was prepare for her OWLs.
