Fifth Years: Lesson Four

Professor Kalif Styx looked at the cage that rested on the top of the desk. It was filled with small mice. They were walking and running around. It was somewhat energetic. He did wonder if his wife had some sort of tendency to play with them because she was a cat in her animagus form, which took after her personality. He was most certainly not one, but he also did not like animals. Fifth years slowly came in and got settled in. Styx looked at the time, and gestured to the door to close it. "Wands out, as you will be working on mice." Styx let the news settle in the fifth years' heads before he would move on to the directions.

"The spell is the same, but they are more difficult than snails. They do have a vertebrae, for instance. They are also faster. You have to know every single part of the mouse." Styx motioned for them all to come up and grab one. He did not need to tell them to follow directions so much. "There are plenty of mice for everyone if you want to vanish more than one of them, or if you screw up and splinch one." Once everyone had a mouse, he reached in and grabbed one himself, and demonstrated in front of the class on how to vanish the entire mouse in one go, as it was trying to run away. "That is your assignment. Once all of the mouse is gone, you are free to leave, or grab another one to keep practicing."

Assignment: RP the lesson.

Hinata quietly took her seat as Professor Styx began the class. The sight of the small, scurrying mice in the cage on his desk made her very nervous. Vanishing erasers was one thing, vanishing snails was another. Vanishing mice, however, was going to take a whole lot of work. She came up to his desk to grab a mouse when they were allowed to. She cringed at the thought of splinching the mouse in her hand, she already felt guilty having to vanish it. Hinata took a breath as she examined the mouse in her hand, remembering the professor's words from the first lesson. She had to focus and know her target.

Hinata set the mouse down on her desk and used one hand to keep it trapped while the other grabbed her wand. She focused and steadied herself just as she'd done in the last few lessons while recounting the professor's teachings. When she felt she was ready, she concentrated on the mouse before tapping her wand three times. "Evanesco," she said firmly, and for the first time, she succeeded on the first try without splinching her target. She felt relieved and glad of her success for the first time. After calming her excitement, she went up and practiced with another mouse before leaving the class satisfied.

The first semester was flying by and the blonde felt she was doing an good job. This year was really important and June had thought a lot about how to plan her time. So far being a prefect was amazing too and she didn't yet had to run into people and tell them they were wrong. Unfortunally. June as a Slytherin prefect could only do real action with her own house. But if she could have power over all she would feel even more better. But that was something she aimed for next.

The blonde made her way to the classroom and found her usual spot in the front. She hoped Styx wouldn't dissapoint her like last class. But June didn't even let someone notice. She just was ready for the class to begin. But as she noticed mice she didn't understood why in all these classes stupid animals had to be used all the time. Ofcourse transfiguration were animals part of too. But they could pick cute animals over this stupid ones. She took her wand on her desk and listened. June watched the demonstration again and when it was time for herself to do it she let the mouse levitate on her desk, since she didn't liked touching one. And than used the three tap method for it to vanish. '' Evanesco'' the blonde said concentrated at the full complete mouse and what she wanted to happen. The blonde noticed the mouse was completly gone. Ofcourse it was. The blonde was all focused on doing well. Put all her energy and time in it. And it went perfectly now. June decided to try again for practice and left the room as she was gone.

When Mikael entered the classroom, he quickly noticed the cage of mice on Professor Styx's desk and realized that this lesson would be more troublesome. As he took his seat, he listened to Professor Styx explain the task of vanishing the mice. He wasn't exactly thrilled having to deal with the pests. When it was time to collect a mouse, he chose one of the calmer ones and held it carefully as he returned to his desk. Not wanting to do this more than once, Mikael focused intently on the creature, recalling the professor's instructions.

Once fairly sure that he'd manage the spell correctly, he tapped his wand three times, just as he'd done the previous week with the snail. "Evanesco," he said firmly, concentrating. The mouse began to vanish, but Mikael kept his focus until the mouse disappeared completely. Satisfied that he had done enough for the day, the Slytherin packed up his things and left the classroom.

Horror Zhefarovich entered the classroom with a measured, almost detached demeanor, his gaze shifting to the cage of small mice on the desk. The presence of the mice was an obvious step up from the snails, adding an extra layer of difficulty due to their speed and spines. The professor’s warning about the increased difficulty was noted, and Horror was ready to apply his precise control to this more intricate task. When Styx instructed the students to collect a mouse, Horror approached the cage calmly and selected one of the small creatures. He held it gently, feeling the slight wriggling of the mouse in his hand. His eyes remained focused as he moved back to his desk, placing the mouse in front of him.

Horror took out his wand, holding it with a steady grip. He had observed the professor’s demonstration carefully, noting the importance of complete concentration to ensure the entire mouse was vanished without splinching. With a firm but controlled movement, he performed the three-tap method and cast the vanishing spell, "Evanesco." He watched intently as the mouse began to disappear, making sure that every part of the creature was accounted for. He confirmed that everything was gone. Good. He did not want to practice anymore, since he did not have much difficulty with this one. He got up and left.

Bailey watched the mice scurry around in their cage, feeling a knot form in her stomach. She’d managed to vanish a snail in the last lesson, but this felt different—more complex, and somehow more unsettling. When Professor Styx demonstrated the spell, she focused hard on every step. She'd have to be extremely careful not to splinch the poor mouse. Grabbing one from the cage, she placed it gently on her desk. The little creature moved quickly, making her nerves spike, but she took a deep breath and tried to calm herself.

Wand at the ready, she focused on the entire mouse, visualizing every little part of it. "Evanesco," she said clearly, using the three-tap method. The mouse flickered but remained mostly intact. She bit her lip, frustrated. It was harder than she’d expected.

Bailey tried again, more determined this time. Focusing harder, she muttered the spell with more confidence. The mouse began to vanish—its little tail disappearing last, until it was entirely gone. She exhaled slowly, relief washing over her. Satisfied with her progress but not eager to push her luck, Bailey decided to leave it at that. She packed up her things, nodded politely to Professor Styx, and slipped quietly out of the classroom, feeling proud that she'd managed to complete the task.

The year was going by quickly. Gemma didn't feel as lost and overwhelmed as she had the previous year, but that could change. Her classes were more challenging this year, required more practice outside of the classroom. Definitely not ideal, but Gemma was doing well to manage her time. She was also attending all classes and trying to demonstrate all her skills openly. The plan was working so far. Gemma entered the Transfiguration classroom, ready to show the professor her vanishing skills. Hopefully on the firs time this lesson.

The blonde girl took her seat in the wrong row. She set her bag to the side only keeping her wand on her desk. That was all she would need hopefully. Gemma waited for the lesson to begin, not taking long at all. The professor had to use mice today. Even worse than the snails. Plus these would be more difficult. Overall, Gemma was not pleased. But she would not let it deter her. Gemma accepted her mouse, really wishing she had a barrier. It was soft yes, but the thought of it freaked her out.

Gemma set the mouse on her desk. She tried to tap it three times but it scurried around. Gemma rolled her eyes dramatically, giving the mouse a little pep talk to stay still. Obviously, the mouse didn't listen. Gemma sighed again. She would have to hold it. She grabbed the mouse and cupped her hands to hopefully contain it for a moment. She had to be quick.

The Slytherin girl tapped the mouse three times. "Evanesco" she said thinking about the mouse vanishing and her hand empty. Just as she had pictured, it happened. Gemma smiled opening her hand fully and turning it around. The mouse had vanished. She quickly packed up her things, not wanting to give it another go. She just wanted to wash her hands, which is exactly what she did as she left the Transfiguration classroom.
