Professor Stark leads the two contestants to the stage, showing them to the north or south sections of the stage. She reveals the rules as well as the point system. She walks off of the stage and makes sure everything is in place before calling the duel to start, keeping her eyes peeled for any rule breaks.​

Zared had sighed the longest sigh when he had ended up with elysia, she was the most frustrating person in Zared's life, he had complained to Lestat as soon as he'd found out, but he was just hoping to get her back for the punch he had received at the yuleball. So he took his position followed the usual rules of greeting when it came to duels before raising his wand and with a quiet mutter, "Riddikulus,"

Elysia Styx was very pleased that she ended up paired with Zared for her first duel. She felt like the punch did not do her anger justice. Now, this would be humiliation. She raised her wand, and sure as hell did not bow. She might have been breaking the number one rule, but she did not care. As soon as he cast the first spell, it was ineffective because it only worked on boggarts. She rolled her eyes before shouting, "You know I am not a boggart, right? That spell only works on those creatures. Surely I am not your worst fear." Deciding on something simple, she sent a Knee-reversing hex towards him.

The moment the spell had passed his lips he knew he'd gotten it wrong and he just wanted her to go away but of course this had to happen, she just always made him feel so weirdly angry and while he didn't fear her, he definitely didn't like her and she made him nervous, "fu1k off," he muttered quietly, thankful for the distraction of a spell that he was able to block, he took a moment, gathering his thoughts and picking the right spell before throwing the Jelly Brain Jinx at her.

Elysia smirked as it seemed like she struck a nerve. She didn't know why she hated him so much, but it had been ever since she laid eyes on him. And it was only fueled more as he kissed Estelle, forcing her to move schools because she felt terrible. Elysia vowed to make Zared pay. She blocked the spell, which would have rendered her useless in the duel. Oh, she needed to step up. Choosing to walk in the steps of her cousin, she intoned, "Incendio!"

Zared felt better when he had managed a better spell, it of course still didn't feel perfect but it felt better. The boy raised his wand and cast a protective spell almost too late, barely protecting himself from catching alight. The boy just narrowed his eyes, his frustration towards Elysia rising, he didn't understand her and this was a school way of getting it out. He cast a quick trip jinx in return, hoping to literally trip her up.

Elysia was a little thrown off guard when Zared cast such a weak spell, but it worked. Soon enough, Elysia landed on her back as the trip jinx successfully hit. Hissing in frustration, she tossed a verbal Reducto his way, while she was scrambling to her feet. Oh, Zared was going to pack for that. Her back was sore, but that was nothing compared to the adrenaline pumping through her veins as her anger intensified.

Zared was more than a little pleased when he had successfully managed to hit her with a spell, he felt like he had won at something, really managed at it. The boy was barely once again able to erect the protective spell that deflective the spell which Elysia had thrown and immediately after he raised his wand, and said, "Tarantallegra"

Elysia got onto her feet and placed her barrier up. Luckily, she did not get hit with yet another spell. She was wondering why he was using silly spells, whereas hers were really trying to hurt him. Elysia brushed her hair over her shoulder and she cast a verbal Stupefy toward the Slytherin.

The boy cast a protego as soon as he could, blocking her far stronger spell. He didn't want to lose to Elysia, he wanted so badly to win, he didn't care that she was clearly better at this than him and he didn't care that his thoughts towards her were somehow less negative than they had been a few days before, "Furnunculus,"

Elysia ducked when the spell that would cause her looks to betray her was thrown. That would have been embarrassing had that hit. She wanted one of hers to hit him so badly. Anything to get herself to win. She needed to outsmart him, which was going to be a challenge. He had to be smarter than he led on. She tossed the Jelly fingers curse toward him.

The boy felt pretty pleased with himself when he caused her to dodge out of the way last minute, and he felt a little better about how he had been playing up until that point, the mistaken spell, and just generally being frazzled by her. However this joy was short lived when the wand dropped from his hands when the curse Elysia sent to him hit him before he even really realised it.

The spell hit! That meant almost promised victory for her. She aimed and cast a powerful Reduction his way to ensure victory. And one that would be overkill. She didn't care. She wanted vengeance.

Zared could not help his growl of frustration as he finally was able to reach out and get his wand, holding it and finally managing to cast the finite on the curse, and was only just able to roll out of the way of the spell. He got to his feet and shot back, "Expelliarmus," he said his voice louder and with more frustration than ever, there was a roughness to his voice due to a serious lack of real use, but the spell shot from his wand.

Elysia waited for her spell to work and win her the duel but the Slytherin ended the curse and dodged her attack. Elysia swiftly put up a block, though noticing that he was getting frustrated. So was she. The duel should have ended when it first started. She cast a swift Stupefy. Eve. Her tone was getting irritated.

Zared felt like he had evened things out in this fight between them, managing to get back on to his feet and fire a good few spells but his momentary lapse in paying attention and congratulating himself in his anger to win cause him to lose. The spell she sent hit him square in the chest and Zared unceremoniously collapsed.

Sloane paid close attention to the duel and once the Slytherin had been knocked out, she approached the stage and congratulated the Ravenclaw on her win. "Well done, Elysia, you go on, I'll revive Zared."
