Professor Misha Haden had been a bit surprised to be asked to help out, he didn't often, but he didn't mind it. Though of course he was feeling a little more tired than usual with the boys keeping him awake. It was nice though, they were adorable. He looked at the two students whose duel he was overseeing. "Let's keep this clean," he said, before inviting them to get started.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels. Duelers cannot cast spells at the spectators or face disqualification.

Kanako stared down her fellow Slytherin for a brief moment, quirking a smirk before casting. "Pertrificus totalus!" she shouted, a little aggressively, taking good aim at her opponent.

He didn't know Kanako well, but he supposed he didn't have to to beat her in a duel. "Protego! Stupefy!"

"Protego!" Kanako casted, blocking the incoming spell. She had a dim feeling that she recognised Lumos' name from something beyond just classes together and tried to remember where she knew the name. But she also tried to concentrate. "Locomotor mortis!"

He blocked her next spell, snorting. "Like stopping me from running is gonna do anything, my dad's an Auror." He reminded her, and if she did't know, now she did, but it was hardly uncommon knowledge. "Stupefy!"

Jonah didn't sign up for the Duelling Tournament, he didn't think he was good enough at spells for that. He was there however to cheer on a number of people. He didn't very much feel like yelling or screaming or doing anything outlandish, but he did bring little colored flags for every house. The problem for when he's cheering for Lumos right now is that he was also going against a Slytherin, so he couldn't wave his little green flag. And he didn't want to distract him by yelling. So he settled for casting a very low Lumos on his wand and waving it around in small movements that he hoped weren't enough to distract his friend.​

Kanako scoffed, blocking the incoming spell. "So what if your dad's an auror? Doesn't mean I can't catch you out," she said before throwing out a "Stupefy!" back.

Now she was just repeating his spells. He'd been using Stupefy this whole time. He rolled his eyes. "Sure it does, but I'll humour you for a bit." He'd noticed Jonah out of the corner of his eye because he'd seen the little Lumos he'd lit for him. That was really sweet, but he tired not to let it distract him. "Protego, Rictusempra!"

"Protego!" she cast quickly. Now he was just showing off. She could play at that game. "Tarantellegra!" she shouted, aiming square on. "So now you use something that isn't stupefy, huh?"

He blocked her spell. "Look, sometimes the simplest of spells is best for finishing off the simplest of people, you know?" but he appreciated the effort she had put in, she clearly thought he required more thought than just a simple spell, and that was so nice of her honestly. He was talking utter trash of course, but wasn't that half of what duelling was? "Expelliarmus!" Another simple spell, sorry Kurosawa.

Blocking the incoming spell, Kanako couldn't believe the nerve of this boy. Now she remembered where she knew him from - Tori had mentioned going to go see him one time. So he was a friend of Tori's. Kanako, who hadn't been aware she'd been holding back, suddenly felt like going alright. "Well, it's not working, so maybe I'm not as simple as you thought," she shot back with venom. "Petrificus totalus!" she tried, aiming for Lumos.

Well, someone was worked up. Honestly he was a little disappointed that she was so easy to rile up like this. Was she always like this? He'd have to investigate after this was all over because she seemed like someone he'd like off of the Duelling platform, not that he was going to tell her that though. "I'm not the one who's upset about being called simple, remember?" He quickly blocked her spell before surging back with "Stupefy!"

Kanako was trying to keep her composure after her little bit of an outburst. She wasn't going to be beaten for a stupid reason like that, she tried to reason with herself. "Whatever," she mumbled, blocking the stunning spell. "Tarantellegra!" Maybe if she talked less it would be easier to win. Maybe that's what his tactic was.

"What, did I hit a nerve? You too good for me now?" Yeah, he definitely wanted to talk to her outside of duelling, it might have been nice to make a new friend after the year he'd had. Outside of Demi, Amory and Jonah he didn't talk to many people (Nox not included). He managed to block her spell before following it up with "Serpensortia!"

Lumos was the only person Demi was going to bother supporting in the duels. There were a lot going on this year, and the second years had a lot of contenders to win for first place, but if she couldn't win herself then she wanted to see her best friend win in her place instead. She was obvious to Jonah waving a small light around as she pushed her way to the front, a grin on her face when she saw Lumos practically taunting the other girl. He was confident, and good for him, he had every right be. "Go on Lumos!" she yelled out, proud of him for how well he was doing.​

Kanako snorted in response, then didn't have time to get her wand out to block but somehow managed to dodge. "Don't get ahead of yourself," she retorted, just glad she'd managed to dodge and not get hit. "Pertrificus totalus!" She threw back, the first spell to come to her head. She was a bit annoyed this guy seemed to have multiple friends cheering him on when she knew she had none.

Yeah, he definitely hit a nerve if the way she radiated annoyance was any indication. He laughed, that was always fun. "Awe come on, don't get upset, I can be your friend, do you not have any?" He asked, genuinely curious, as he hadn't seen anyone coming to cheer for her. She seemed okay to be honest, why couldn't they be friends after this? He blocked her spell before shooting back "Stupefy!"

Ruth liked her dormmates, even if they weren't all exactly the warmest and friendliest bunch. She knew she had to make something of an effort, and that wasn't her style (especially if it meant they'd take her for granted) but checking out the duels around hers were a good chance to show support for the girls. "Yeah Kanako!" She called, wishing she'd decked herself out a bit better for the occasion, but she did have to dress comfortably for her own duel. "You got this!"

Kanako would have felt hurt by his comment - or rather, she did for a moment - and then she heard someone cheering her name. Not daring to spare a glance, she blocked the spell coming her way almost effortlessly. She'd have to thank the person in future. Maybe. "I have plenty, as you can hear," Kanako said back with unearned confidence. "Tarantellegra!"

Kanako actually thought that was rather witty, but she hid that. "Hmph, we'll see about that," she said as she blocked his spell. "Petrificus totalus!" She kept casting that spell, liking the idea of seeing this Lumos kid immobilised and unable to retort back.

Honestly, he kind of like Kanako, she was fun to mess with on the platform and he wondered if she would be fun to mess with off it as well, he somehow got the feeling she would be. He managed to block her spell, but it was almost a miss - they were both still learning after all. "Everte Statum!" Time to knock her off whatever high horse she thought she was on.

Kanako barely managed to block the incoming spell, a little unsteady on her feet from the effort. She frowned. This was getting serious now, in her mind. She threw back the jelly legs jinx, hoping that would catch Lumos off guard.

"Protego!" Kanako exclaimed, blocking the spell. She was getting into the swing of things now, feeling her wand and her start to really be on the same page. The thrill reminded her of being on a broom, but also entirely different. "Petrificus totalus!" she shot back once more.
