Kahurangi was regretting her decision not to sign up for duels this year as she entered the chamber to proctor, but she'd twinged her shoulder at rugby a couple of weeks ago, and wasn't really feeling up to straining it more, just in case. Proctoring was fun anyway, and there'd always be a chance next year to reclaim her title. She took her place on the platform and glanced between the two opponents facing off, curious to see what the students would be bringing to the table this year. "Alright, nice clean fight from both of you, please. On my mark." She stepped back, unable to help a smile as the duelists prepared. "Begin!"

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Sofi had performed terribly in the tournament last year and almost hadn't entered this year. She couldn't exactly say why she was entering now, she thought or maybe just hoped that things would have improved for her one year on. She joined Alana on the platform, bowed and cast her first spell, something simple to get her started, "Stupefy"

Alana wanted to do well in the duelling tournament, she'd never won and never got close and she desperately wanted to change that. She stepped up onto the platform with Sofi and bowed to her, the Hufflepuff was quicker on the draw and got her spell off first, Alana raised her wand to cast a shielding charm and fired back at her, "Petrificus Totalus,"

Sofi was seconds into the duel and already every spell she had ever learnt had poofed out of her mind. She just about managed to block Petrificus Totalus with protego, but had no idea what to cast next. "Petrificus Totalus!" She sent back, Alana had reminded her of that spell just now.

Was Sofi just copying her? That would get annoying fast if she kept it up. She raised her wand and cast a circular shielding charm to block spell and raised her wand back to the hufflepuff, "Furnunculus,"

Furnunculus was a good spell, Sofi wished she had thought of it first because she wanted to use it, but it might look too obvious that she was copying if she did. After blocking the spell, she tried to think of a different spell. There was another one like that but instead of boils it was something else. Sofi thought hard to remember then sent the Fur growing spell towards Alana.

Alana was annoyed at how easily Sofi seemed to block her spells, even when Alana did the same thing to her. She turned her wand to the edge of Sofi's robes, "Incendio,"

Fire! OMG she had not been expecting fire to come at her, Sofi blocked, just and then cast "Furnunculus!" It wasn't copying if she had cast something different since.

The fire seemed to catch Sofi off guard but unfortunately for Alana she managed to quickly put it out and fired back. Alana blocked her spell, thankfully as she didn't need boils, she raised her wand and cast a Slug Vomiting Curse.

The slug vomiting hex was a favourite of her sister's but Sofi was not a fan. She frowned at Alana after blocking, "I hate that spell." She said then sent, "Petrificus Totalus!"

"Learn a new spell!" Alana yelled in frustration as she blocked her body bind curse with a shielding charm, it was so repetitive to use the same spell so quickly after she already had, and it was one she had copied from Alana in the first place. "Locomotor Mortis,"

Sofi was upset at being yelled at for her spell choices, it was very unkind of Alana, and not even true. She knew lots of spells. "What's it to you? You still have to block all the same." It wasn't like her to answer back, but this was a duel and Sofi had to defend herself in more ways than one. "Is this better for you? Expelliarmus!" Sofi wouldn't say anything to Alana, but she was proud of herself for remembering another spell for once.

Sofi was confused by Alana's accusation, yes she had used the same spell back, once. "I have used one spell that you had already used. There aren't that many to choose from." She said, disliking the Slytherin more and more, she reminded her of Morrie and the problems she had with her. She blocked the cast, "Stupefy!"

Sofi was feeling stressed with this duel and it was affecting her focus. She blocked, but only just and it wasn't strong. Next she sent "Expelliarmus!" And proceeded to ignore Alana, she didn't know what she was talking about and Sofi reminded herself that the Slytherin's opinion was not important.
