Closed Cut from the team

Maybe, just maybe, it was a little bit Sunny’s fault for not checking the team list until today, but she had her reasons. She was an OWL student now, and prefect patrols with Cyrus took up the time she could’ve spent looking at noticeboards. Besides, it wasn't like Quidditch was her life, she didn't care much about the game or if Slytherin won. She just liked hitting bludgers at people and she never thought for a minute that would get taken away from her, even by the likes of Vanity.

But when she overheard talk of a Slytherin practice she hadn’t been invited to, she realised Vanity had moved against her. She checked the team list, then tore it from the noticeboard and crushed it in her fist. She couldn't let that witch get away with this, and decided to pay her a visit down at the Quidditch pitch. The walk down gave her time for composure, that by the time she reached the pitch, she’d managed to smooth her expression into something calm, and potentially pleasant, on the surface at least. Sunny even smiled when she found Vanity. The smile was too sweet to be real. “What’s this about then?” she asked, lightly tossing the balled up list in Vanity’s direction. Her voice was light too, but her eyes gave nothing away. “You didn’t think you could cut me without talking to me first… did you?”

@Vanity Mettlestone

During a break in practice, Vanity flew down tot he pitch to drink some water and give the team some pointers. But before she could talk to anyone, she spotted Sunny walking across the pitch. She suppressed a smile. What did she think she was doing? She watched her approach quietly, then tilted her head a little as she spoke. She didn't even react to the paper being thrown at her, it bounced harmlessly off her chest. "I don't recall you being on the team." She said musingly. "I mean, I guess you were an alternate, but that doesn't guarantee anything. You know that." She smiled. "And be fair, what team needs four beaters?"

Sunny’s smile didn’t falter, though she could feel her heart thumping as adrenaline started to pump through her as she geared to really have this conversation with Vanity. “Cute Vanity. Real cute,” she said, anger rising in her chest that she fought to keep it in check, “But you cut the wrong beater. You and I both know I’ve put more bludgers on target than any other beater, including you!" Sunny believed that to be true and so it was. “And yeah alts don’t guarantee anything but captains who cut players without a word? That guarantees payback.” Sunny tilted her head, mirroring Vanity’s earlier gesture, "So watch your back Mettlestone.” Sunny warned, she was so done here.

Vanity didn't let Sunny's words hurt her. Honestly, she had never paid much attention to how well Sunny did. Probably partly because she had known she was doing pretty well and didn't want to compare the stats too closely. She faked a smile and waved her off. "Okay, good luck with that." She said cheerfully. "I'm just shaking in my boots." She called after her sarcastically. Like Sunny could do anything to her.
