Once again, Evander's mother was busy with work. She always had to work double shifts so they could have food on the table and a roof over their heads. Evan had grown up with this, and now knew that there was very little a small, eight year old such as himself could actually do. So as he was apparated to a friend's house, he already had some things packed and his hair combed. Veronica was a really fun friend - but also his only friend. All other children he knew though he was a little baby or something. But he wasn't, he was just smaller than other kids, with his ears just a little pointier than others. It upset some children, and his mother had to be careful where she left him so she could avoid bullying. Fortunately, the Boneheart's had really nice kids, they weren't mean at all. Evander always looked forward to spending time with the Boneheart's, Mrs Boneheart was a really nice cookie baker.

Evander waved his mother goodbye as she pressed the doorbell and apparated to work. He his bag still on his back and one of his shoes untied, Evander waited for the door to be opened. He could hear some sort of noise originating from behind the door, so someone was definitely in there - he just had to wait. He tucked his hands up his long, shirt sleeves and rocked on his feet, only grinning once the door was opened.

Veronica sat on the floor of the hallway, waiting and watching the door. Her bestest friend in all the world was supposed to be coming over today because his mummy was working again today. Sometimes Evan had to sleep over because his mummy worked the night shift, but not today, today it was just for a couple of hours. Veronica liked playing with Evan, he was only little, way littler then she was, so it was easy to stuff him into boxes and to pretend he was her baby brother. Veronica hated to be the baby in the family, but she was and there was nothing could be done about it, she just had to pucker up and make Evan the baby when he was here. Her mummy said something about Evan being little because he was only part wizard, but Veronica didn't know what that meant. He looked all wizard to her. Was there something that was supposed to be different about him? She didn't know if there was, but he didn't look any different. Except for his pointy ears that reminded her of those alien people from that funny old space show her Granma used to watch. Veronica couldn't remember the name, but it had all types of aliens and they were on a ship and they went around space and explored places. It had been okay for a while, but she had grown bored of it and stopped watching eventually.

The sound of the doorbell was enough to rouse Veronica off of the floor as she ran up to the door and twisted the door knob with both hands, it was a little stuck, and yanked the door open. Veronica's already smiling face grew wider as she laid eyes on the very boy she had been waiting for all morning. "Evan!" She cried, pulling her little friend into a tight hug. It was weird, having a boy her same age be smaller than her, but she was used to it now with Evan. They had been friends since they were very little, well, since she was very little, he was still the same size. There was a photo in the hose on her mummy's mantle of her cradling him in her arms. They were two. She helped him into the house and made her way into the kitchen. "Mummy! Evan's here. Can you make us some cookies please?" She asked, tugging on her mother's apron. Her mother loved cooking, which was good, Veronica and Evan loved eating.

Evander grinned as he saw Veronica, and giggled as she screamed his name. He threw his arms around her, easily being picked up by her sheer strength, or his small size. Evander preferred to think of everyone around him as being part-giant or something, as apposed to him being tiny. It was hard being in a world built for big people, but he felt that he was doing just fine. Especially with his best friend Vernie being so nice. If he couldn't reach something, Veronica was all too happy to get it for him. The same went for her entire family. His mother could not always reach things, as well. Sometimes, she'd have to hold him up into the air and hope that their combined height could reach tall cupboards. But he felt that was simply for his benefit. She could, after all, use magic to get stuff down if she really needed to. She had a wand and everything and could apparate and do other cool things. Evander couldn't wait until he was old enough to do all of that stuff. He couldn't wait until Veronica could do all of that too. It'd be amazing to go to school together. The only problem was that Evander and his mother moved a lot, while Veronica would probably go to that New Zealand school or something. Her siblings did. The chances of him going to the school were slim. He had no reason to be in New Zealand.

He was finally released, and as he expected, she helped him into the house. He played with the straps on his bag, which was considerably bigger than him, but not as full as it appeared. He doubted he would be able to walk properly if it were full of things. He smiled as Mrs Boneheart poked her head out of the kitchen. "Can we have banana split too?!" She made the world's most amazing banana split. And when he received a cynical look from the woman, he clapped his hands together in front of his chest and popped out his lower lip. "Please?" she couldn't deny that. With that sort of promise to drive him, Evander dropped his bag in the lounge room and (awkwardly) clambered onto the lounge. Once finally up, he sighed and smiled at Veronica. "What're we doing today, Vernie?"
