Kauri's family had never been big on Halloween, an American tradition they didn't think had much place in New Zealand, but a costume party sounded like way too much fun to shy away from. Wrapped up in the slightly unpleasantly warm Elmo suit, he made his way down to the Great Hall, filled with excitement as he looked around. So many COSTUMES! Everyone looked so COOL and EXCITING! He wandered the room for a while, just looking around at all the costumes and decorations.

The Elmo head was starting to get annoying, but Kauri didn't want to take it off any time soon. Heading over towards the tables laden with snacks, he gasped as he spotted an older boy wearing an almost identical Oscar the Grouch costume. "Bro!" He called out excitedly, hurrying over. "Nice costume!"

Xavier faced difficulty thinking of a Halloween costume for that year. That was until he read up on a muggle children's show named sesame street, took a particular liking to all the different characters, then eventually decided to attend as Oscar the grouch, thinking it was an accurate yet funny depiction of his personality. The suit was bright green, furry, and warm, but he loved it all the same and couldn't wait to show it off that night.

He entered the great hall and immediately made his way to the snack table, digging his hands into one of the bowls of gummy worms and picking out the ones that were green. He was in the midst of shoving the worms in his mouth when a person wearing a fire engine red, and equally as furry Elmo costume approached him. The last thing Xavier expected was to see another sesame street character at the feast, let alone Elmo, his second favourite character. He swallowed the worms in his mouth before flashing the other boy his widest, happiest grin. "Oh my god, its Elmo!" He exclaimed. "Your costume is better, dude! Holy crap!" Not once since deciding on his costume did Xavier think he would match someone else at the feast. It was the most perfect coincidence and he couldn't be more surprised yet completely excited.​

Kauri laughed, delighted. "No way!" He said happily. "You look so cool!" It was true, the other boy's costume looked awesome to Kauri, and he couldn't believe the coincidence that he had run into someone with a matching costume. This place really was magical. Beaming, he adjusted his head, which was once again in danger of slipping off to the side. "Dude, we should enter the costume contest together, we look awesome! I'm Kauri by the way." He added quickly, not wanting to forget to be polite. "This party is awesome, this whole school is so cool. Have you been here long?"
