Since we can all choose are blood status does that mean we do not need to be approved to be a pure blood anymore?

No, it is still necessary to apply to be a pure blood.
There is currently no system in place for approving purebloods, however, and therefore we as Admin will be discussing the implementation of one as soon as we have the opportunity.
The profile field is simply so it's made more visible.
