Closed Big Changes

René knew their fifth year was meant to mark a lot of changes in their lives, what with their OWLs and especially Louis' prefect's badge and all, but René felt like he'd been sitting on one particular change in his own life for ages. He hadn't had a chance to say anything on the train to school and then class had started and René had wanted to sleep for like a week but today there was no more excuses for putting it off. And he didn't want to put it off. He wanted to tell Louis and Caleb all about Jenna and get to see their faces when they processed that out of the three of them it was him with the actual girlfriend this year. And he wasn't at all worried about if they'd like her. Or if she'd like them. Or anything like that. It was going to be totally cool and everyone was going to think it was awesome as.

"Oi, over here," he called, not really needing to stand up to be seen over the other students in the hall as he spotted his friends, spotting them entering the hall for lunch and eagerly flagging them down. "You guys will not believe what happened over my break," René started with a wide grin.

Louis had been lost in thought until he heard René calling him over lunch. He supposed they hadn't had a lot of time to hang out yet. Louis was pretty used to eating meals at different house tables, so he felt completely at ease as he dropped down next to René at the Hufflepuff table. He helped himself to some food, giving his friend a distracted glance as he said something happened over break. "What, did you kiss someone?" He asked, raising his eyebrows a bit. His tone of voice implied he didn't really think that could be it, as Louis didn't really think René had the guts to kiss anyone.

Caleb sighed as he entered the great hall. He wasn't exactly looking forward to this year. They had exams which he didn't really care about but he knew a lot of people did and he was already annoyed by how much complaining he'd have to over hear. He was about to head to the Slytherin table but stopped when he Rene called out to him. Louis had also entered around the same time and he joined both of his friends instead. He laughed at Louis' suggestion, not that he didn't think Rene was good looking but he didn't seem like the type to kiss and tell. "Is that so?" Caleb asked with a sarcastic sincerity before snagging a bit of Louis' plate. "Congrats." he said mid chew.

“What, no-“ René sputtered at Louis’ immediate comment, scrambling to regain control of the conversation as Caleb laughed. “I mean yes but that’s not- I got a girlfriend,” he managed finally. “And she’s really hot and cool too,” he added for good measure, wincing belatedly at how lame that had sounded, even if it was true. “Jenna Irons? You know you her right?” He said, glancing at Caleb since they were in the same house.

It always felt like a struggle to keep up with Caleb and Louis sometimes and Rene was eager to see their reactions to his announcement, considering he didn’t think either them had managed to land a serious girl or boyfriend yet, let alone one in a higher year. Now hopefully he could just sit back and watch them finally be impressed.
