Closed Awaited And Unaware

Abian tried to remember who was on the Beauxbatons team when they had visited to play against the winning Hogwarts team, trying to see if he could figure out who William's fling had been. But none of the girls had made much of an impression on Abian. "Right." He said, listening to William's words. "So you think I could just... casually kiss someone and then be fine with them after? Just be friends?" He asked, sounding unsure. "I don't know if it would work out that easily." He turned his head, looking at William and then smiled slightly. "Like, could I kiss you right now and we'd just be cool?" He asked him jokingly. "Kidding, of course." He added quickly.

A year or two ago, this conversation would have felt like a dream to William. Now, though, he snorted with laughter. "'Course. It's just kissing. What are we, twelve?" He rolled his eyes, scooting closer. "Look." He ignored the sudden nervous clenching in his chest as he leaned in, pressing a quick kiss to Abian's lips before pulling back. It was a relief to discover that he really didn't feel the same joy he would have felt in the past. He really was over the crush, and was more concerned at the sudden realisation that he hadn't kissed anyone in years, and though it had been brief, it might not have been a very good kiss. "See?" He said quickly, deflecting with a shrug and popping another gooseberry in his mouth. "No big deal."

Abian didn't actually think William was going to kiss him until he did. But it was just a peck, really. He blinked, looking at his friend for a moment. Then he frowned a bit as he said it wasn't a big deal. "No, duh. That was barely a kiss." Abian said, squaring his shoulders a bit. "That's a grandma kiss, not a person you like kiss." He said with a shake of his head. But he realized he couldn't just say that without backing it up. "I meant a kiss like this." He said, leaning in and cupping William's cheek with one hand as he pressed his lips firmly against his. He curled a finger into William's hair as he gently moved his lips against the other boy's. Then he pulled back slightly, though he stayed close. "See?" He murmured.

Although it wasn't a big deal in the end, part of William lingered on what had happened. He had kissed Abian, after so many years of wanting to. It hadn't been anything like his adolescent daydreams, but that was probably for the best. A closing page for that chapter of his feelings - he had kissed Abian, and it hadn't been anything like his daydreams. The end. He snorted when Abian protested that it had been a grandma kiss, rolling his eyes. "I'm rusty, mate!" He began to protest, cut off when Abian closed the gap between them again. William felt his mind short-circuit at the circumstances he had found himself in, turning the events over in his mind. Of course after he had worked so hard to get over Abian this would happen. As nice as the kiss was, he knew the Hufflepuff wasn't really interested, just proving a point, and William kept that in mind as he kissed back, allowing himself to just enjoy it for a moment. Abian was a good kisser, and this was.... nice. He pulled back slightly when Abian broke the kiss though, searching the Hufflepuff's face briefly in confusion. "...See?" William echoed after a moment, raising an eyebrow. "You can kiss someone and still wanna be friends with them. No big deal."

Abian felt a thrill go through him after the kiss, and kind of wanted to go in for another one. But he vaguely remembered that wasn't the point. He was sure the kiss had rattled William a bit, until he saw the genuine confusion on the boy's face. Abian pulled back, suddenly feeling a little dismayed. It really hadn't made him feel anything? But even Abian was feeling something. He swallowed quickly, trying to hide his disappointment. "Uh, yeah." He said vaguely, scooting away a bit. "No big deal, you were right." He muttered, trying to tell his heart to beat a little slower.

William hadn't kissed anyone for a long time, and he had definitely forgotten how nice it was. His complicated history with Abian aside, it had been nice to... be kissed, and William had to resist the urge to touch his lips like he was in some terrible anime. He glanced at Abian when he responded, noting the discomfort in his voice. What was that all about? William wasn't sure, but he shrugged and nodded, trying to play it off like he didn't feel... a bit weird now. "So... yeah. You don't have to be, like... planning to get married to someone to hang out or whatever, long as you both know the situation." He shrugged, staring out over the lake.

Abian was a little frustrated. It should have been no big deal to him. He wasn't the one who had gotten over a crush. But William should be more affected, right? He seemed perfectly casual about it all. Meanwhile, Abian was feeling a distinct fluttering feeling that made him think of Jacob. He pushed that thought aside. William was his friend. His best friend. "Right." He said, nodding. "So... in theory, you could just... have someone you kiss and still be their friend?" He asked, wondering if he could turn this conversation into another kiss. He wanted to see if it would affect him the same way. Just to test that out, obviously.

William snorted softly at Abian's question, finally chancing to look at his friend again. "'Course." He replied, taking in Abian's expression. He was surprised to see the other boy looked a bit unsettled, wondering if the kiss had had more of an impact on Abian than it had on him. "I mean, that's what being "friends with benefits" is, you know. People who just... like hooking up, but wanna keep things platonic. Have you never heard of that?"

Abian nodded as William mentioned friends with benefits, though the term made him blush a bit too. It felt so casual, so... weird. Not like something Abian had ever considered, until now. But he kind of wanted to kiss William again, it just seemed like that wasn't even on the other boy's mind. Abian cleared his throat. "Right. Yeah I have." He said casually. "So is that... something you're interested in, then?" He asked him, glancing at him sideways.

William hadn't expected Abian to be as naive as he seemed, but at least he wasn't totally clueless. Of the two of them Abian had dated more people, so how was William the one explaining all of this? He was a bit surprised when Abian asked what he was interested in, shrugging a little uncertainly. "I mean, sure, I've done it before." He said idly, a bit surprised at the question. "Not like I've got people lineing up to make out, but you know, if the opportunity arose." He commented, wondering if Abian was making some sort of hint about him getting back together with Nadine. But that was silly, that had been years ago, she was probably out there in France doing.... whatever French people did.

Abian watched William's reaction closely. It wasn't as enthusiastic as Abian might have hoped, but he did say sure. Abian nodded and kind of stopped listening, as he was focusing on gathering up the courage to kiss him again. It was fine, just kissing. William had said it wasn't a big deal, so it wasn't. He nodded then and leaned in to press his lips to William's again without another word, sure he'd understand what he was doing.

Even as he felt Abian's lips against his own again, William still hadn't quite put the pieces together, caught entirely off guard. It took him a moment to respond, re-processing what Abian had said. Was he... actually interested? Now, after all the years William had spent pining after him? It was all too much to really grasp, but thinking was hard and kissing was easy, so William leaned in to the kiss, letting one hand slide softly along Abian's cheek as he relaxed into the moment, enjoying the kiss. Part of him wondered if it would have always been this easy, if he should have just kissed Abian years ago and left his insecurities behind, but the bitterness that brought up in the back of his mind wasn't nearly as sweet as Abian's lips in the here and now.

William seemed surprised at the kiss, but Abian didn't let himself think about that too much. Soon enough, William was leaning into the kiss and kissing hm back. He stroked his arm and shoulder gently as they kissed, moving a bit closer to the other boy. Eventually he had to pull away, mostly to breathe. "Alright." He breathed. "Cool."
