Closed Astronomy Extra Credit

Adorah always felt she was missing out the semesters she didn't have astronomy. She felt that she would forget important things after months of not having the course and then either lose interest or fail at her intended career path. While her initial interest has been because of what she now realized was a crush on her professor, she really did enjoy the subject and found it fascinating. She had spent a lot of her time outside as a child staring at the stars, and here she was years later learning about the subject. She pulled out her notes and found a spot near her dorm with a small balcony to sit out on. As she looked up at the dark sky, she noticed a few planets and then began to flip through her notes to see what kinds of things she wanted to review. It wasn't quite time to be in her house yet, but she knew it was coming near. She was hoping to get a little extra time in before that happened.

[Sophie Elliston]

Sophie was starting to become a little bit frustrated at the amount of people at Hogwarts. The only time people weren't milling about in the common room or the dormitories was during meal times and Sophie was fed up. She wanted to be alone more than anything and to be away from people so they could stop asking her so many questions. She didn't want to tell people how she was and why she didn't show up to classes and she couldn't understand why it was so hard for people to leave her alone, especially her mother who constantly sent her letters to see what she was up to. With her mini telescope in hand, Sophie began making her way up to the North Tower. She had drawn so many pictures lately to try and calm herself that her sketchbook was almost full. She couldn't think of any other characters to make up anymore, and so now she resorted to the stars to hopefully make her forget all of life's troubles. As she made her way up there she rolled her eyes as she saw someone was already there. "Great" Sophie thought as she began setting up her telescope. At least they had their own thing to focus on and Sophie didn't seem to know them.

As Adorah turned to a page on zodiacs, she felt someone come up behind her and turned to look. She had become less easily spooked since going to school with ghosts and animals roaming around. She noticed it was a girl around her age she didn't know but had seen around. She gave her a smile even though she wasn't sure the girl was even looking at her. She went back to her journal and flipped a page only to give herself a papercut. "Ah," she gasped slightly as she shook her finger and then held it to her mouth. She looked down at it from the moonlight and saw that it was deeper than a normal papercut. "Umm, do you happen to have a bandage?" she asked quietly.

The sky was clear and so that meant Sophie could have a good view of the various constellations in the sky. Once she set up her telescope, she looked around and spotted what she thought might have been pegasus. It was a harder one to spot, but also easy due to the fact it was one of the largest constellations. She then began looking for another one, trying to make some of them out. She was disturbed however as the only other person in the room spoke to her. Sophie paused after the girl had asked her the question before taking her face away from the telescope and turning around to face her. "Just suck it." Sophie said simply with a shrug, not really caring that the girl had a paper cut. "Can't be that bad." With that, Sophie continued to look into her telescope, hoping the girl wouldn't speak to her again.

Adorah furrowed her brow at the girl's response and continued sucking on her finger. She was surprised by how indifferent the girl was and looked back at her journal. As she took her finger out of her mouth, a drop of blood fell onto her paper. Cursing, she took the edge of her robe and wrapped around the finger tight, hoping to quell the bloodflow and looked again at the girl next to her. She noticed the girl was using her telescope and figured she was probably studying, as well. "What are you looking for?" she asked.

Sophie was thankful that the girl didn't continue to talk about her paper cut. She was just focused on looking through her telescope and at all of the different constellations. She thought about how she could make her own constellations with the other stars in the sky and what sort of creatures she could make out of them. The sky was full of so many different ones and Sophie couldn't help but be mesmerised by it all. As the girl spoke again, Sophie took her face away from the telescope again. "Constellations." she replied simply to her question before taking her sketchbook that sat next to her and drawing up her own ones. She thought that one of them could have resembled one of her half-lion and half-seal drawings and found this rather amusing.

Adorah nodded when the girl responded with a single word. "Yeah, that makes sense," she mumbled to herself. That was an obvious guess, and Adorah felt a twinge of stupidity arise as she realized the girl really didn't seem to want to interact. She went back to her journal and pulled up her finger from her dress, noticing the bleeding had stopped. Looking back through to her third year notes, she noticed some of the constellations listened for ther southern hempishere and started to look up at the sky. It was then that she started to pull out her telescope, making a lot of noise in the process and set it up. As she looked through the eye piece, she started to bounce her knee up and down to get rid of the anxious energy she was feeling, which caused her sandal to repetitively flap against the stone floor.
