It had been a tense game of Assassin that had first begun the previous semester. 28 students had tried and failed to claim victory and just 2 remained to see it through to the end. It had been an amusing game that resulted in the Hufflepuff seeing some unusual interactions, and she knew no matter which student in front of her was to win, it would be well deserved. Geo had gathered the two students into the Courtyard that sunny Sunday afternoon for a match of Sudden Death, to find out who would be crowned champion.

Geos head turned between both girls in the centre of the outdoor arena. "Alright ladies this is it. You will need to take it in turns to attempt to assassinate your target. Just like before you need to have your wand lit up when you attack otherwise it won't count and no poking each other's eyes out, we don't need a trip to the hospital wing." Geo nodded between them to make sure they were ready, wondering if this was going to draw a crowd if it went on for long. "First person to successfully tap the other player wins." She said with a grin, taking a few steps back to give them their space. "Ready, set," she finishes by blowing a whistle she'd managed to scrounge from the Quidditch equipment, and let the Ravenclaw and Gryffindor do their thing.

You will have just 10 minutes between each post to reply, otherwise you will be counted as a surrender.
Your post should consist of a dodge (unless you wish to forfeit) and a subsequent attack within the post.
First person to stop posting within this will get second place.
Post length does not matter, so long as it is clear that the wand is lit and you're attempting an assassination.

Good luck!

Phoebe had signed up for assassin with the ambition to win and prove she was the best at something. What she wanted most was the ability to boast about it later. What she hadn't expected was for it to take so long, nor for her opponent in the end to be a first-year. Her pride wouldn't allow her to lose today. She had to win, or she would lose face. Phoebe grinned at the redheaded younger girl. "Good luck, you'll need it." She said confidently, not doubting for a second she was better. No one would be sent to the hospital wing today, unless the other girl would need some special band aid for her bruised ego. As soon as Geo blew the whistle, Phoebe practically shouted the incantation. "Lumos!" As her wand lit up brightly, Phoebe jumped forward. She hoped to intimidate the other girl with her sudden movement, aiming her lit wand for her shoulder.

Gwen was very excited to end the assassin game once and for all and was more than ready to begin the last round. She wanted to prove that she was the best and took out her wand, smirking at her older opponent when she spoke to her, not wanting her words to get to her. The Gryffindor waited for her to go first. When she did, Gwen quickly moved out of the way of the light, successfully dodging their spell. She then quickly sent one back at her with a flick of her wand. "Lumos." she said, excited to beat the girl so she could be crowned the winner.

Phoebe was always a confident girl, on the verge of being arrogant. So when the girl deflected her attack, she was a little shocked as well as disappointed. But no matter, she would get her in time. She jumped back to avoid the girl's own attack, shaking her head with a grin. "Gotta do better than that." She said, hoping that she could annoy the girl into slipping up. Phoebe didn't know Gwen very well, but she hoped she could be goaded into making a mistake. Phoebe tried to move around her so she could tap her on the back, though it was impossible to be sneaky when it was just the two of them. Maybe she could try to make some sort of distraction? But she had no idea what.

Gwen watched as the Ravenclaw blocked her spell but this did not stop her. She stayed alert as she watched the older Ravenclaw walk around her, trying to do something, and Gwen raised an eyebrow, unsure what she was up to and if it was even a good tactic. She felt a rush of adrenaline go through her as she quickly turned around. "Lumos!" she exclaimed suddenly, aiming her wand at the girl, hoping to scare her.

Phoebe jumped back quickly when the girl suddenly whirled around with her lit wand in an attempt to attack her, Phoebe scoffed, narrowing her eyes at her. Gwen had startled her, even though Phoebe really should have known better. Because of how startled she had ben, the light on her own wand had gone out as she lost her concentration. "Lumos." She said firmly, smiling as it lit up again. She tried once again to lunge forward and surprise the girl with her spell. If she could just graze her with the tip of her wand, it would all be over.

Gwen beamed when her sudden move really scared the girl. It seemed to be easy to scare her and Gwen was happy for this. She wasn't going to let the fact that the girl was much older distract her and was more determined than ever to win it. She watched the girl's every move, still wondering what her previous tactic was all about, and when the girl quickly jumped towards her with her lit wand, Gwen made sure to take a step back, perfectly dodging the spell and sending another one back at her. "Lumos." she said, winking over at the girl as the tip of her wand lit up and she pointed it towards her.

Phoebe huffed as the girl looked a little too pleased with herself. She would learn soon enough which of them was the better at this. It annoyed her that the younger girl had jumped back and dodged her, and her little wink annoyed Phoebe more. With a slight roll of her eyes, she stepped back from the girl. Her mind was trying to think of some clever strategy, but nothing popped up yet. She simply tried to tap the girl again with her still-lit wand, knowing it was the most effective thing to do. She was glad she had the focus and experience to keep the Lumos spell going for a while, possibly longer than the first year. That was about her only advantage.

Gwen could see that the girl was getting annoyed but tried not to let this deter her. In all honestly, Gwen didn't care how annoyed she was getting and it was actually quite satisfying. She chuckled slightly at the girl as she continued to walk around and ducked down when the girl tried to tap her with her still-lit wand. "What are you even doing?" she asked with a slight smile before lighting up her wand again and attempting to tap the girl on the leg.

Phoebe realized the other girl wasn't really all that affected by her earlier taunting, and it in fact seemed like the tables were turning and she was taunting Phoebe instead. Phoebe tossed her head and shrugged. "Winning." She said as she moved her leg away before the other girl could tap it. She tried to tap the girl on the arm while she was still nearby from her own attack. The girl's words just made her all that more determined to win this. But at this rate, they would have to wait until one of them got tired. Phoebe had plenty of energy, but she could only hope Gwen had less. Or maybe simply less focus. Phoebe just had to keep her concentration strong and make sure she didn't waver, then she would surely win.

Gwen wanted to laugh out loud at the girl's response to her words but refrained from doing so, not wanting to get herself distract. Sometimes when she laughed she couldn't stop and so she didn't want that to be stopping her from winning. She sighed as the girl moved her leg away, blocking her attack, and quickly moved her own arm away when the Ravenclaw tried to tap it. She simply shook her head, taking a few steps back and dodging the spell so as to give the both of them more room before lighting up her wand again. "Lumos." she said, moving forward again to tap the girl with her wand.

Phoebe's pride and arrogance was a double-edged sword. It helped her achieve great things, as it was a great motivation and drive for her. But it also made her feel really bad whenever she lost at something, or simply wasn't the best. That was the case now. If a first year Gryffindor beat her, she would definitely feel shame. If it was a Ravenclaw, it may not be that bad. But she couldn't be outsmarted by a Gryffindor. With that thought fueling her determination, Phoebe tightened her grip on her wand. She was annoyed as the girl dodged, but without waiting for anything else from the girl, Phoebe advanced. Feinting to the left, she tried her best to tap the girl on the hand that was holding her wand. It would be funny if she managed to get her there.

With Gryffindor's determination, Gwen was not going to back down without a fight. She was quite annoyed that she didn't know what the girl was doing and wondered if she was even doing anything at all. Nonetheless, Gwen kept her eyes open, watching the older girl like a hawk and her every move. As she went to tap her wand hand, Gwen pulled away, dodging the spell before giving the girl a dirty look. "What the..." she muttered under her breath, confused as to why the Ravenclaw thought that was a good thing to do. Ravenclaws were supposed to be smart and this one obviously wasn't. Gwen did not fire back straight away but she held her wand tightly, staring over at the girl, before quickly moving towards her again, attempting to tap her on the shoulder as she lit up her wand.

Even though the fruitless battle was a little frustrating, it also excited Phoebe. As there hadn't been a dueling tournament in the previous year, this was the closest she had come to a duel so far. Though a real one would have a lot more variety in spells, she was sure. Lumos was so basic, that it was kind of boring. She grinned when the girl was clearly surprised and a little annoyed at her tactic of going for her hand. But Phoebe thought it was the smart thing to do: go for the unexpected. She barely jumped back in time to dodge the younger girl's attack in return, grinning at her despite the near miss. "What's wrong?" She asked innocently. She lit the light on her wand again. "Lumos." Then ducked low to try to tap the girl's foot.

Gwen's fast moving had almost taken the girl off guard but it didn't and the Ravenclaw was able to dodge it well enough. At her question, Gwen gave the girl another dirty look. "Nothing is wrong." Gwen assured her begrudgingly. There really was nothing wrong other than the fact the Ravenclaw did not know how to play if she thought that tapping someone on their wand hand was the way to go. But Gwen refrained from saying this so as to avoid an argument whilst they were in the middle of an assassin duel. It would be too distracting and Gwen had better things to do than make enemies. She jumped backwards out of the way to dodge the girl's assassination attempt at her foot before lighting up her own wand and attempting to tap her side.

Part of what motivated Phoebe to want to win so badly was the thought of her younger sister, Diana. She would mock her forever if she didn't win this. The girl she was now battling it out with was in Diana's year, and Phoebe wondered if she knew her. That wasn't a question to be asked now, though. She wished she could put her brain on pause for a moment. Her tendency to overthink everything wasn't helping her in this case. She was now regretting the idea to tap the girl's foot, as she nearly lost her balance in her attempt to dodge. But she regained it, and shrugged. "Good, same here." She said lightly. She jumped closer again, trying this time to tap the girl on the top of her head. She seemed annoyed by Phoebe's stranger attempts, so maybe it would frustrate her to the point of making mistakes.

Gwen wanted more than anything to prove everyone wrong. So what if she was a first year? The older years were just biased and Gwen knew she could beat the Ravenclaw as it didn't seem like she was that smart and Gwen had the drive to want to win which was definitely what she needed. She watched as the girl dodged her light and stepped backwards again as the girl tried to tap her on her head. She chuckled again before pointing her wand at the girl. "Lumos." she said, pointing it towards the Ravenclaw's chest, really enjoying how the game was going.

Phoebe smirked at the girl as she stepped back, radiating confidence. She glanced at Geo, her eyes narrowing slightly as she thought back to the start of this 'duel'. Geo hadn't mentioned any rules against using anything other than lumos. To be fair to the other girl, Phoebe would stick to the ones first-years knew, but still. Perhaps this would take her by surprise. The light on her wand dimmed and she pointed it at the girl, but instead of lighting it up again she sent a trip jinx her way before muttering "Lumos" again and rushing forward in an attempt to tap her when she was distracted. Phoebe didn't even stop to see if she had actually hit the girl with her jinx. If she wanted to pull this off, she needed to surprise her.

The game seemed to be going along very well and Gwen was happy about this. She had lots of energy to beat the older girl and was very much determined to do so. It was fun and the fact that the Ravenclaw also seemed determined made it even better. The Gryffindor was taken aback however as a trip jinx went her way and she tripped, falling onto her stomach, but she quickly rolled over when she realised what the girl was doing, dodging her light. "That's unfair!" she exclaimed, turning to look at the Hufflepuff. She pointed at the girl as she stood back up. "She can't do that because throughout this whole game we've just been using lumos. There's no way that's fair." She crossed her arms against her chest, quite against the idea of the girl getting away with it when the rules at the beginning of the year were to just use lumos.

Phoebe's plan had been smarter in her head. The way the other girl fell made her trip and fall over too when she attempted to hit her with her spell and she sighed as she got back to her feet. She snorted when the younger girl said it was unfair. "No it's not, it's just smart." She snapped. "You could have tried something like that yourself, it's a first year spell." She glanced at Geo defiantly. "We never established the rule that you could only use Lumos." She pointed out. "But if you want to say that now, I'll of course follow that rule." She added quickly.

Geo had been watching the game between the students as they tried to battle it out between them, that was until Phoebe used a new jinx on the first year, causing Gwen to look to her for advice. Geo shrugged, "Any method of attack is fine, there's never been any guide on how an attack can begin, as long as you can avoid being hit." she smiled, hoping that this answered her question. It was too hard to tell which of them was going to win this, and both seemed determined not to give up.

Any jinx can be used, but please specify what this is to allow the other person to defend it. All spells and their defence counterpart must be able to be performed by a first year.

Gwen was not happy with the girl's spell and looked over at Geovanna, wondering if whether or not the girl was doing the right thing. When she said she was, Gwen rolled her eyes before gripping her wand even tighter, determined to just get this over with already. If the rule was specified before the game Gwen would've been alright with it, but now she was mad and her hatred for the Ravenclaw was growing. Once that was done, Gwen quickly moved towards the girl, lighting up her wand and attempting to tap the girl's shoulder again.

Phoebe's grin after Geo's words could only be described as triumphant. The silly other girl had shown her age with her cries of it being unfair, in Phoebe's eyes at least. "Don't be mad because I thought of it first." She said with a grin, though she quieted the urge to stick out her tongue too. She wouldn't act like a total child about it and lower herself to the other girl's level. She ducked out of the way when Gwen tried to tap her shoulder again, really wondering if this girl was just not very creative. She kept moving and tried to tap the girl's arm, only to realize her light had gone out. "Lumos." She hissed quickly, as she tried to tap her again. That was a stupid mistake, but if the girl hadn't thrown a fit over Phoebe's idea, she probably wouldn't have been distracted enough to let the light go out.

Gwen was definitely not mad because the other girl thought of it first. She wanted to do more than just trip up the girl now and anticipated the days where she could learn some more spells to fire at her. But for now Gwen was stuck with what she knew. She dodged the girl's light again before thinking quickly. "Stupefy!" she exclaimed, determination on her face as she pointed her wand towards the girl. She then ran towards her, lighting up her wand and attempting to tap her with it.

Phoebe's grin froze on her face at the girl's unexpected spell. "Protego!" She shouted, also instinctively ducking down. She knew a part of this was her own fault, she had been the one to introduce other spells after all. But stunning seemed a tad more extreme than tripping. Thankfully, ducking down hadn't been in vain. The other girl had missed her and Phoebe lit up her wand before she jumped from behind her shield charm in an attempt to tap her in turn.
