Lesson 4

The class had been making excellent progress thus far, so Irene planned to thoroughly challenge them today. As they entered, she smiled at them. Once they were all there, Irene spoke, “Today, you’ll probably notice that I didn’t put any target on the floor for you to practice with. What we’ll be doing today is getting in a line. One at a time, I want you to attempt to Apparate from one side of the Great Hall to the other like so”

Irene quickly Apparated from the front of the Hall to the back and continued speaking as she walked toward the front again, “For your test, you’ll likely be asked to do much more than simply Apparating into a square so I think this will be good practice for you.” As she reached the front, Irene turned again, “Ok…line up and then let’s begin.”

RP the lesson. Be creative with it.

The last lesson of Apparition had been promising for Estrella, and she arrived without the expression of gloom and doom she had the previous weeks. In fact, her expression was positively chipper. Her success, if small, with Apparating had brought a smile to her face. She even greeted Ms. Finch with a soft "hello," which was out of her normal comfort zone, considering she was not yet familiar with the woman as an instructor and probably never would be after the testing was all said and done.

Smoothing down her robes, Estrella was determined to rise to the challenge of today's lesson and meet it headfirst. This time around, she took in the instructions that Ms. Finch had given them. The Ravenclaw realized that the test would be much more tedious than being able to transport herself into a square, so she knew that she would have to bust her arse during this particular session.

As she was the quickest to get to the front, Estrella was first in line. She applied the three D's as she had last week, although she was still a little shakily. She ended up apparating a few feet away from where she had previously stood. Her cheeks flushing a light red, she held her head down as she approached the end of the short row of students. Thankfully, there were not many students in her class, and it wasn't long before it was her turn again.

Her second attempt brought her farther than the first time, but she seemed leagues away from the other side of the Great Hall. It seemed hours before she finally made it to her destination. The hard work was worth it, however. Feeling quite prepared for her test and determined to acquire a license before summer break, Estrella slipped out of the large room and decided to go for a walk. Walking was an activity that she was afraid she might abandon altogether if she did manage to get her license.

Jaken managed to arrive in the Great Hall without being as nervous as he was before. He glanced at the classmates that had already arrived. He stood where he normally did throughout the Apparation lessons. He nodded at Ms. Finch as a greeting. He glanced at the floor, and found no hoops or squares. What were they going to do this time? His curiosity grew inside, but managed to not ask so soon. The instructor would begin at any time. He was impatient, but kept quiet long enough. It felt like hours before the lesson finally began. He smiled, ready to tackle the task, whatever it would be.

His stormy eyes widened slightly at the mention of the Apparation test. More than Apparating to a square? Would they have to apparate longer distances? Forward, backward? His felt queasy slightly. Swallowing hard, he got in line to apparate across the Great Hall. One by one. He let out a sigh. He knew that he was going to make a fool of himself. Perhaps splinch off his pants or something. However, he pushed the thought out of his mind. Ever since he was learning to apparate, shoving things out of his mind seemed easier.

It was his turn.

Jaken closed his eyes, and shoved away all his uneasiness. He was going to look more like a role model rather than a failure. Hopefully. He applied the three D’s, the last one becoming easier than it was the last few weeks. He managed to apparate a quarter of the way across the Great Hall. Better than last time, he got in the back of the line once again. He was impatient to try again. He wanted to succeed. He was going to make it across the Great Hall. In one piece. So he hoped. Once it was his turn again, he did the same thing that was required to apparate.

He smiled when he saw the distance he traveled. He was half way there. He got in line again. He repeated the process, until he was able to apparate across the Great Hall with one try. Although, it seemed to take forever. He left the Great Hall for a long, well deserved nap. He had to rest up for the test. He told himself that he will pass the test. He had to. He didn’t want his father picking on him over the summer for failing an Apparation test.

Cyndi entered the Great Hall, feeling slightly better about the upcoming lesson than she usually did. Last week, she had finally apparated for the first time and doing so had increased her confidence in the prospects of passing the upcoming exam. Cyndi walked to her usual spot before noticing that there was nothing on the floor for them to apparate into. She looked curiously around the room, noticing no specific target for them.

As Ms. Finch began speaking, Cyndi began to become more nervous. She listened as they were instructed to line up and get ready to apparate in front of everyone. Cyndi didn't know about anyone else because she had been so focused on her own progress, which was minimal. She hoped that she wouldn't embarass herself in front of everyone. Cyndi slowly walked to the line, not wanting to be first or last.

As Estrella had some trouble getting across the hall, Cyndi grew more nervous. She gave her a smile and a small clap as she walked past her to get to the back of the line and try again. Jaken came next and although it took him two tries to apparate across the great hall, he was successful. She smiled encouragingly at him as well.

Finally, it was her turn to try. With a fluttering in her stomach, Cyndi looked down the Great Hall towards the end of it. It had never looked so large before. Cyndi focused on the area and focused on her determination to be in that area. With deliberation, Cyndi felt the tingle in her body that let her know she was apparating. When she opened her eyes, Cyndi was about 3/4 of the way down the great hall. She had never apparated so far and couldn't believe it.

Cyndi turned back and went to the back of the line, waiting for her turn to try again. She had to try two more times before she was actually able to successfully get across the Great Hall. By the time their lesson was done for the day, Cyndi left elated yet tired. Apparating was draining as it required so much concentration. She hoped that she would be able to apply what she learned today on her exam.

(OOC - Sorry, Bruin is too ill to attend this week's Apparition lesson)

Bruin dragged his way down to the Great Hall, but barely made it inside before virtually collapsing against the cold stone wall. The cool stone felt good against his forehead and he stood there momentarily, wondering if he should make an attempt at Apparating in his current condition. The thought of splinching himself on top of his fever and other aches and pains was not a welcome one and he excused himself. He would practice later and take his test in the summer when his birthday rolled around.
