Irene found it unfortunate that she could not meet with the sixth years every single week to prepare them for their apparation exam, but her current schedule would not allow it. With a new Minister of Magic coming in just months, all of the department Heads were forced to attend meeting after meeting to explain what was being done in their offices. The woman had the nagging feeling that the new Minister might make cuts and she didn't want her department to fall victim to any of that. The woman entered the castle, her navy heels clicking along the floor as she made her way to the Great Hall, glad to see that her request to have the tables moved had been granted. The students would need space for what was planned today since this would be their first attempts at apparating. She wasn't expecting them to do particularly well.

"Come in, Come in" she urged them forward impatiently. The woman's blue eyes scanned the group before she reached for her wand. "Space yourselves out...there's plenty of room" she stated with a sigh as they remained bunched together. Once they were finished rearranging themselves, Irene gave her wand a small flourish and a large wooden hoop appeared in front of each student.

As she looked around at the student's faces, Irene's expression remained stern as usual. She gave them no expression of hope or encouragement. It was up to them to work hard and create their own hope. After all, she couldn't help them on their exam. Her blue eyes stared at each student for the briefest of moments, making judgments about their ability to succeed at the task before them. She had been doing this long enough that she was rarely wrong."Alright. Can someone remind us of the three Ds?" she pointed to a student and nodded. " Correct. Destination. Determination. Deliberation" she stated clearly. "And, if you feel as if you're suddenly being pulled through a tube, don't worry. It means you're doing something right." She winked before looking around the room, wondering if any of them were familiar with the sensation from side-along apparition. It was definitely something to get used to and any of the students who had never done it were in for a huge surprise.

"I'll be walking around in case any of you get splinched and I've asked one of the nurses to join us as well" Irene began, nodding to the woman who was seated in the back corner of the room reading a magazine. Irene knew that there was always that one kid that couldn't be bothered to concentrate. She looked around wondering who that person would be today.

Irene crossed her arms and stood waiting for the students to begin. When they didn't right away, Irene rolled her blue eyes. "Whenever you're ready" she added a beat later in a droll tone. She didn't expect them to do anything much for at least the first little while. Irene allowed the students a few moments before she began pacing around the group, stopping to offer a suggestion here and there and demonstrating when she needed to. By the end of the lesson, she was exhausted from all of the back and forth.

Rp the lesson. Have fun with it! It is ok to not succeed today. You'll still get full credit so long as you RP!

If you plan on splinching yourself, please PM me first.

Apparition made Tybalt think of that first year quidditch class. He hadn't really like that lesson, but it was similar to this in that it was only once during the schooling, and was useful to know when he left the school. Ty was looking forward to this skill and was really hoping to do well in the class. He was sort of hoping that this would be easy, and he had spent a lot of his time thinking about the three D's of the class. it was why when the second of three classes rolled around, the boy was very excited. It wasn't that often that he got to do a new class. That really didn't happen that often to him. He was looking forward to being able to do this outside of the school. He was getting ready for the lesson. He wasn't sure how excited others were about this lesson but Ty really was. He liked the fact that he didn't really have much reading for the class, and was really just needing to take his wand and that was all. Tybalt had read up a lot about splinching, and he really didn't want that to happen to him. He wanted to get this.

Stepping into the great hall, Tybalt found himself a spot, apart from most others and then glanced towards the professor who stood at the front of the room. He then, looked down at the large wooden hoop in front of him. He quickly realised what the hoop was for, and was pretty excited about it. He looked back at the professor who was asking the class a question, he raised his hand, and then when he was called upon to answer, "Destination. Determination. Deliberation" he said clearly, glad when that was right. He nodded with what she was saying. He had been on sidealong apprition before, and knew the feeling a little bit. He was ready to get started, so did so when they were allowed to. He concentrated and imagined where he wanted to be. In the hoop. He felt a slight pull, but ended up being pretty surprised by it that he stopped himself. He took a breath and then tried again. He had his wand tightly clutched in his hand. He closed his eyes slightly, and reopened them with increased determination, and then the pulling sensation came over him, and in an instant he found himself standing in the hoop. He smiled to himself. He'd done it. With that, the lesson was soon wrapped up and the professor dismissed them.

Preston entered the Great Hall for the second apparition lesson. It was something he’d been thinking about all the week. Mostly, he was nervous at the thought that he might not be good at apparating. He wasn’t a very good flyer, and portkey travel wasn’t his favorite either. He hadn’t used floo travel enough to know if he liked it or not, but he was really banking on apparating. If not, his methods of magical travel would be severely limited, and Preston didn’t really want to give some of his classmates more reason to belittle him. Heading towards the front of the room once more, Preston waited with his arms crossed for the lesson to begin. It didn’t take long before the room had filled up as much as it was going to and the woman began talking.

Preston glanced to his right as the woman told them to space out. He took a few steps over and stopped. He didn’t want to get too close to the wall. He passed the time staring at the hoop, realization dawning on him that they were probably supposed to end up inside of those things. The hoop was right in front of him, but Preston still hadn’t gotten past thinking of apparition more than just in an abstract way. That he could actually move himself from where he was standing to that hoop seemed nearly impossible. Nearly. He’d seen the woman apparate so he knew it could be done. He just wasn’t sure if he could do it.

As she set them to work, Preston thought about the 3 Ds that they’d been taught. Destination. Deliberation…no, that’s not right. Determination then Deliberation, he thought to himself. With a big breath, Preston focused on that hoop which had to be his destination. It seemed so small though. How could he manage it? Preston’s gaze bored into the floor inside of that hoop and he thought and thought and thought about moving into that space. But nothing happened. Preston watched, in dismay, as several of his classmates succeeded, and his confidence waned as each moment passed and he did not. By the end of the lesson, Preston still hadn’t succeeded in apparating.
