Apparation Lesson #3

[Irene Finch]

Irene Finch stood in the front of the room, her ministry robes neatly pressed and hair hanging perfectly, waiting for the students to arrive. Today, she was in a fairly good mood and wore a natural smile on her face. The last lesson had gone about how she expected it would. Sure, some of the students were having a bit of trouble with their aim, but she was just grateful that some had succeeded in apparating. Usually, by this point, she would have more students still unable to apparate. The students weren't without hope though and that was what mattered most. She hoped that before the end of today all of the students would succeed in apparating directly to their target, especially since this would be the last practice they would have before the exam took place at the end of the semester.

As the last student arrived, Irene waited a moment for them to gather closer and then spoke. "Hello. Today, we will resume practicing" she began, her face growing more serious. "I am hopeful that those of you who weren't able to apparate last week will do so this week. The next time we meet will be your exam and you will only get one shot to succeed or fail. Your test will require you to be accurate when you apparate, so today, I'd like everyone to line up beside me." Irene gestured for the students to begin lining up next to her.

By now, she knew that the students must know the three D's, so she didn't feel it was worth repeating. If they didn't, that was their problem. "Alright...I'd like you all to attempt apparating from this end of the Great Hall to that end" she said, pointing towards the doors of the Great Hall.

"The X marks the spot" she added, knowing that if they really looked over to the other end, they would notice an X etched onto the floor with magic. Glancing at all the students beside her, she only hoped there would be few splinchings today. "You can begin whenever you're ready" she said to the student who was first in line.

Kate hurriedly walked down to the Great Hall, she was looking forward to their next lesson. Ever since she had successfully apparated in their last lesson she couldn't wait to try again and progress to going further. She liked the challenge of apparation. The end result was what she was aiming for. If she was able to apparate, visiting Stefan would be so much easier. It was one of the main forces behind her determination to get this right and done well. She would love to be good at apparation and be able to travel long distances as soon as possible. She knew it would take some time before that would happen. She had to be patient and just work her butt off at getting this done properly and right. She had managed not splinch herself which was a bonus, she just hoped she didn't do it in today's lesson or the exam. She didn't want to get too confident also. Anything could go wrong and until she apparated successfully consecutively she would believe anything could happen.

She walked into the hall, she was one of the first to arrive. She stood near the back of the hall and waited for the rest of the year to arrive. Soon everyone had arrived and Ms Finch began the class. It was disconcerting that their next meeting would be the exam. She really hoped she passed. Kate somehow managed to be first in line for the apparation. She attempted to squeeze her way at least second but they wouldn't budge so Kate was left out in front. She bit her lip and she immediately became nervous, everyone in her year would be watching her. Kate was well used to attention from other people but she really didn't want to make a fool out of herself in front of so many people, people she knew quite well. Kate squinted and made out the X at the end of the hall. Kate breathed in and focused on the X at the other end of the hall. She knew they were waiting for her but she wasn't going to be rushed. She used her meditating technique and emptied her head of thoughts except for the X. She focused sorely on it and imagined it in real detail. She soon felt the now familiar feeling of being sucked into nothingness. She opened her eyes and smiled when she saw she had landed on the X . She looked back at the long line of students, she wondered if she concentrated and if she was allowed could she apparate back but she thought it was best to walk back. She stood back and watched the rest of the class before leaving when the class was finished.

 

[Sara Moon]

Sara laughed as she entered the class, chatting with some of her classmates. She was planning on enjoying this class, and she couldn't wait to apparate properly. She watched as the instructor told them what to do, and was immediately nervous. Would she be able to do it-what if it went badly? She'd sort of apparated last time, perhaps it'd go better now? She took a place near the center of the line, and watched as her sister went first, and did well. It took her a while, and that heartened Sara. If other people were taking their time, she could too. She shuffled forward as each person took their turn, watching the successes, the failures, and hoping she'd be part of the previous category.

Once it came to her turn, she stood and looked around nervously, twirling a strand of her perfectly-straightened hair between her fingers. She closed her eyes, doing the deep, belly-breathing her singing teacher got her to do, control the air. Focus. She could see the X, could feel it's distance from her, and smiling, she realised that she could do this. She immediately turned on her heel, feeling herself suck into the void, and reappear at the other end of the room. She turned around, and looked down at the rest of the class, beaming. She strode back down to the door, absolutely ecstatic. She'd done it!

 

[Klaus Smile]

Klaus Smile quietly entered the Great Hall. He was in a better mood this week. Changing from tea to water had proved helpful. He was much less stressed, and he felt good! He was ready for this apparation lesson. He walked in and listened as Ms. Finch told them what they would be doing. He stood in line beside the woman as she instructed them to do. Klaus watched as the students before him apparated, some on the X and others not on the X. Soon, it was Klaus's turn. He took a deep breath and focused on the X. He just stood there staring at the X for awhile until he finally decided to close his eyes. Klaus kept the picture of the X in his head. He felt himself being pulled into a rubber tube for a few seconds, and when he opened his eyes back up. He saw that he had landed right on the X! Beautiful! How exciting! Klaus smiled and clapped his hands together in happiness. He walked back to the end of the line. Soon, he would be passing is exam. Klaus was excited. He felt things were finally going his way.
