Savannah had known there would be a yuleball, and had tried to plan accordingly but now as she stood in front of the mirror in the dorm having watched the other girls go she felt silly. The dress was an old hand-me down from her mother, which Savannah had taken rather than asked for. It was a little frayed at the edges, the colours faded, it didn't fit her in any sense, and she couldn't make it work. She couldn't get her hair to sit well, her makeup looked childish, this was a mistake. She shouldn't go to ball, but she wanted to go, wanted to be able to have fun. Despite her own thinking about it, Savannah got to the great hall and couldn't help but fiddle with the skirt. She hated this, feeling just so uncomfortable in her skin because of this dress. She'd give this whole thing an hour at best before she left. As nice as the hall it looked, it wasn't worth feeling uncomfortable.

Indi wasn't always sure why she bothered with the Yule Ball sometimes. It wasn't like she ever had a date, not that she wanted one. But when she got to the great hall and saw all of her classmates playing dress up and trying to impress people they would all forget about the moment the graduated, she remembered how amusing it was. Not that she was completely immune the notion of dressing up. She had tried to do something with her hair and had even put on some makeup but she was also perfectly content to watch, and judge, from the sidelines. She was doing just that when she spotted a particularly sour looking first year and she was instantly curious to know why she seemed so glum already. She hadn't even delt with OWLs yet. "What's with the long face?" Indi asked stopping next to the girl. "You look like you smelt something terrible." she teased lightly.

Savannah's frown and distaste for this event didn't dwindle. She wasn't surprised when someone noted it and spoke to her. Savannah had grown quite accustomed to there always being someone who wanted to talk. She glanced at the girl, who was much older than Savannah was, pretty and the dress she was wearing as nice. ”Maybe I did, the potions professor did just pass me,” she lied with a roll of her eyes. She wasn't exactly going to spill a sob story about how uncomfortable and out of place she felt to an older girl she didn't know. ”Don't you have better things to do with your time that talk to ickle first years? No date?”

Indi was curious what the girl had to say for herself when her frown only deepened. But it was the last thing she expected. She laughed and glanced around to see if Professor Miller was around and frowned when she spotted her sister talking to some other first years. "Well I'll have to make sure to keep far away from her." she said and laughed again. But she rolled her eyes as the younger girl asked about what she was doing and if she had a date. "No." she said. "And do you really think there's anything remotely fun to do here besides watching everyone else embarrass themselves?" she asked rhetorically. "And no to the date too. Not that I want one either." she added dryly.

Savannah hadn't expected the older girl to laugh, but she did, and for a tiny moment Savannah smiled. It wasn't factual, but it was funny, and she didn't care much about starting rumours. She'd found Professor Miller's class rather dull anyway. ”You should,” she added. THough she felt like she was embarrassing herself, in this dress that didn't really suit her and didn't fit well, she could believe that this older girl meant everyone but her. ”Found anyone embarrassing themselves a lot?” she asked. If she could keep the attention off her, maybe that wouldn't be too bad.

Indi nodded in agreement and sighed. She didn't have much of an opinion on the professor but she doubted she'd be able to look at her with a straight face anymore. "A few." she answered coyly when the younger girl asked if she had seen anything. She thought everyone was a little embarrassing but she doubted that's what she meant with that question. Indi sighed again and stood up a bit straighter as she started to discreetly point out some of the more interesting interactions she had seen. "There's a couple over there who I'm fairly certain are on the verge of breaking up." she said and gestured to a tense looking couple that didn't appear to be having a good time at all. "Aaaaand over there some poor guys just spilt punch on his date." she added and pointed towards the snack table.
