Even though her parents had given her permission to leave the grounds during Brightstone weekends, Alana rarely took advantage of the privilege. She didn't have many friends, so going to Brightstone didn't bring her the same excitement that it did to others. So, it was pretty surprising to her when she set out along with a large group of students towards the small wizarding village. Her parents never sent her any pocket change, so she only had what she had received for her birthday. It was an embarrassingly small amount, but she carried it as if it was a fortune, eager to spend it on her favorite treat. Spending a portion of her sickles on licorice wands, Alana spent the remainder of her time wandering Brightstone. She was content to be alone, enjoying her candy and the weather. And there was certainly enough to keep her entertained. Without the professors around to keep them in line, students ran around shouting and chasing each other. Alana narrowly missed being crashed into several times.
Several hours later, Alana waited on a bench just inside the castle, eying the doors. The sun was beginning to set and she knew that the last of the students would be arriving soon to avoid missing supper. Alana's stomach growled as she took in the smells of what was sure to be a great meal, but as the students poured into the Great Hall, the Slytherin made no moves towards the large room. Her expression was stony, her red eyes quickly scanning each student before they moved on to the next. It was obvious that she was looking for someone in particular. The Slytherin girl couldn't believe how quickly her mood had changed from when she had first set out from the castle. But change it had. Her leg bobbed up and down anxiously as she bit on one of her fingernails. It was nearly to the nub so she switched to another, barely noticing what she was doing. The blonde stood up quickly, spotting someone. But, she sat again. She'd been mistaken
