A New Neighbor

She smiled at him. She was glad to hear it, and a question swept from her mouth before she could stop herself, "Do you dance?" She knew the answer would be no. Most people didn't dance. And the numbers were even fewer when it came to guys. Since she was born and could walk, her parents have been trying to teach her to dance. They even got special stilt-shoes for her, so that she could take lessons. But, she never did. She had way too much trouble finding people that could dance, and she just didn't feel comfortable dancing with a girl. She wasn't homophobic, she just didn't feel comfortable doing some of the moves. "Thank you, I've been learning since i was seven. My parents are bilingual, they figured it would be good for me."

Neiko didn't mind that she asked a question before she answered his. So he waited and smiled things just kept getting weirder and weirder. "Actually I never took lessons officially, but I loved to dance and it came to me naturally so I was a volunteer dance instructor. The real teacher didn't have a partner and needed help showing the boys what to do so..." He smiled at her warmly. He wondered if she danced. It was perfectly normal for boys in Italy, but here he knew it was more of a queer boy thing. Then he realized how ironic that was and chuckled. He hoped she wouldn't ask but if she did he would tell her sadly enough he trusted her with his secret.

She grinned even larger then before. She had never met a boy who enjoyed dancing so much. "Maybe, if by some weird spell, I grow bigger, I could officially teach you. I've been learning from my mom since i was really little." It wasn't saying much, considering the fact that Tawny was still really little. she giggled a little bit more and then looked around. "Anything else I should know?" She asked with a smile. if only Tawny knew that the feeling in her stomach was telling her that she didn't want to know. That she didn't want to use her mouth for talking. But, Tawny was naive, and she had not yet experienced love, or a crush at that. So she remained blissfully unaware.

Neiko smiled "That's cool." Then she asked he figured he might as well let the clown out of the bag sooner rather than later. "Well there is one thing." He looked at her seriously. "I'm... well I'm gay" He looked at her. "I hope that doesn't change anything." He knew that she probably wouldn't mind. She didn't seem like the type to care about such things. But he knew that a lot of people really had a problem with gays. Whether it be in there religion or whatever. He still believed in a higher power and such, it's just he would rather kiss a guy than a girl. Which was hard for some people to understand.

She kept a smile on her face, and inside her voice was going mad. 'Gay? Gay, gay gay? What? no way! This guy is insane! Get him out, right now, Tawny! He's no good for you to hang out with. Plus, you just lost your first crush! He's gay, kick him out!' She smiled wider at him. "Of course it doesn't bother me! Glad that you told me. i would tell you that I'm part-Goblin, but i think you saw that from the way I hung from the door!" She giggled slightly, a weird feeling in her stomach eating at her.

((Sorry so short))

Neiko smiled widely. "I'm glad, most people won't even talk to me once they find out." He looked at her. He had been right. She didn't care. It was hard for him to grasp. He had a friend who didn't care he was gay. It was really nice to now he could talk to someone now. Plus they had so much in coomon. Neiko had never had a best friend, but he knew this was the way it was supposed to feel. "So are you adopted?" He hadn't meant to blurt it out but he was still trying to figure out how she was part-goblin and her sisters wern't.

Her voice still screamed at her, telling he she should be like all the rest. But, Tawny knew what it was like to be judge for what you are, she wasn't about to do that to him. She did, however, wondered what made him think she was adopted. She looked at him with a confused lok, and then toyed with a strand of her hair. She shook her head no. "Wh-why would you think that?" She asked, trying to hide the hurt. she knew it was because she was a goblin... a freak!

Neiko wondered if he had said something wrong when she studdered. "Well your sisters don't look like half-goblins, or are they adoped? I don't really know I was just curious." He looked at her and hoed he hadn't hurt her feelings. He really didn't want to hurt her when they just started to become sorta like friends. He just really didn't want to screw up this relationship.

Tawny shook her head. "No, it just seems that i am the only one effected, I mean, my sisters all have pointed ears, and they are thin. But, I guess that i have the strongest amount of goblin blood." She explained, a little bit quickly. She tried to ignore what he had said, why would he assume that. She was full Asian, and she had her mother's hair, and so did her sisters. She tried not to take offense though, he was just curious. "anyways..."

Neiko nodded kinda mad at himself for asking her such a personal question. They had just met but then again he had told her he was gay already. He couldn't believe he had just said that strait out. He could be stupid sometimes. But She started to change the subject and smiled. "So.. Do you go to school here?" He asked glad to have changed the subject quickly.

She looked at her small feet, which were still in a pair of shoes. Why was she wearing shoes? She slipped them off and heard them clunk on the floor and then gave him a small, closed lip smile. She shook her head. "Not yet, I'm supposed to go to Hogwarts New Zealand." She said with a slight smile. "What about you, Neiko." She loved saying his name, mostly because it was a wonderful name; it was just so neat. It was strange, she wondered what the name was, though she assumed Italian.

Neiko smiled, it was cool she was going to school. He wished that he could go to school. Then she asked. "Well Tony went to school, but I didn't want to so he's teaching me." Neiko smiled he told her the truth, I mean not many boys his age wanted to go to school I'm sure. So he figured it wasn't that uncommon. "Tony wants to teach someday anyway so he figures practicing with me is a chance of a lifetime." He laughed.

She nodded, showing that she was listening to him. She wondered though, why he was gay? Were women cruel to him. Human nature was an interesting thing to Tawny. She smiled the slightest, and kept her head up. She had a few questions to ask him, but, none were about being in school. "Can I ask you something kind of personal?" She asked him, not just coming out with it.

Neiko nodded, "Oh course, anything." HE smiled. He would tell Tawny anything. Even though they had just met they had so much in common. He felt like they had known each other for years. He wondered what it was she was going to say. She was curious like him so he figured it would be a good question. He. laughed mentally, another thing that they had in common.

She took a deep breath. "Why are you gay? I mean, I know that you like boys and all, but, i don't know. Do girls just not suit you, or is it... I mean what's the difference." Tawny had never dated; ever. She didn't know what the difference (besides the obvious ones) between girls and boys were. She just wondered if he had been beat by a woman, and so he didn't like them, or something else. However, if he had been beat, he wouldn't have talked so openly with her.

Neiko nodded, he understood where she was coming from. "Well, it's kinda complicated. There are really a lot of reasons, but I think the main reason is that I'm more attracted to boys. I mean I read this artical about it, and they say that's what causes it most of the time. But It's like instead of seeing women as like girlfriends I saw them as friends, and the other way around with boys so..." He shrugged. No one had really asked him in a serious manner why he was gay besides his therapist, but he had never told him anything. "Just ask youraelf why you like boys, and that's basically how I feel." He smiled, that was a very good question.

Tawny sat there, her small pointed ears picking up on every little word that he said. She hadn't really picked up on how nice his voice was, smooth with that little Italian accent that hinted on every word he spoke. His linguistics were beautiful and he was so fluent in English. She cocked her head to the side slightly, her face serious and slightly confused. "But... I don't like boys." Tawny was naive to sexual things. When it came to boys, she had the mentality of a four year old; they were icky! Which is why she didn't undertand her anger toward Neiko when he told her he was gay.

Neiko looked at her. If she didn't like boys... did that mean she liked girls? He didn't care one way or another, but still. She didn't seem like the type. "So your lesbian?" He asked. It would explain why she was okay with his gayness, but he couldn't understand. She didn't seem at all like a bisexual either. Was she just a loner. He didn't get it. She was pretty. Not his type, but prett. She could get a boyfriend. It was very confusing to him. He hoped she would clear things up for him because he was majorly confused.

((A bit redundant, sis?))

Tawny looked at him with wide, dark eyes. It took a few seconds for it to really register in her mind, what he had said. He though she meant she liked girls. "No!" She said a little louder then she meant. "No, no, no, no!" She repeated a few times. "I'm not interested in either sexes!" She laughed a little bit, it was a nervous laugh. "I mean, never had a date, or crush, or kiss... nothing." She said with a bit of a blush, it was embarrassing for her.

Neiko took a deeo breath. He was glad that she wasn't bi or anything. I mean she just didn't seem the type. "Oh." He was glad that they had both of their sexual prefrances. "I'm.. Yeah... Okay that's cool." He truthfully hadn't had a really solid relationship before. He just could't find someone like him. It was frustrating, but he was fine being single. He went out with his brother and his friends. So it wasn't like he didn't have a social life. Not that he really minded either way, but it was nice to think about having a boyfriend.

Tawny nodded at him, there was a big awkward silence. There was only the ticking of a clock in the background, which Tawny tried hard to keep her mind concentrated on it. Tik, tok... Tik, Tok. She looked behind her and gasped a small gasp. "Oh my, I almost forgot, I am so sorry, We'll have to continue this later!" She jumped off the bed. "My parents will be home soon, I'm going to cook for their anniversary!" She smiled a little at him, and sighed inwardly, waiting for him to stand up and leave.

It was quiet for a while. Finally Tawny said that she had things to do. He stood up. He was glad he had come over. HE knew he had made a good friend. "Oh, that's fine. I should get going anyway Tony will be home soon." HE smiled he walked to her bedroom door and looked back at her, "Hey remember I'm right next door, feel free to drop in anytime." He smiled widely. He wished that they could have talked more but he still had to cook dinner as well. So he walked down the stairs, her sister must have went somewhere because she wasn't on the couch. He walked back to his house and started on dinner glad to have met him new neighbor.

Tawny smiled and followed him down the stairs, she was quiet the whole way. She couldn't bring herself to start a conversation. She didn't see her sister, she must have left. She shut the door behind him, and stood on a chair to lock the door behind him. Everything to her started to move in slow motion. She wasn't sure why, but she felt sad. The word 'gay' echoed in her mind. It was played over and over, she had no clue what she was in for. It was hard to get up the steps, and she was breathless and blurry eyed by the time she reached the top of the steps. She jogged to her room and jumped onto her bed, throwing herself on her stomach. That's when a tear slipped from her eye, and she felt more coming down. She had her first crush and heartbreak within the matter of an hour.
