A new encounter

Gwenneth smiled back at Jack, glad she shared something in common with Jack. "Well I'm not quite sure what I want to do really. But I still have two years. What about you? I mean you're graduating this year and all," she asked him. She thought it must be exciting to be done with school. But thinking about it she grew slightly sad knowing she'd only have this year to spend with her new friend, hopefully she'll make some friends in her year before Jack left.

Jack smiled. "That fine. How about the ministry?" He asked, wondering what sort of girl she would end up becoming. "Me? Well i will travel for a bit probably. See the world etc... but i am thinking of joining a quiditch team probably." He said, shrugging slightly. He wondered why she seemed slightly sad as she mentioned him leaving. "Don't worry, i will probably be back sometime. I mean, if flying doesn't work out, ill get a job here." He said, shrugging again. His future was uncertain to him. He really wanted to join the death-eaters, but didn't want to mention it for fear of upsetting her.

Gwen shrugged her shoulders, it would be easy to follow her dad and get a job with him if she really wanted too but she didn't think this school would be able to get rid of her Ravenclaw heart, most likely she'd end up in a Library somewhere. "That sounds interesting," She said about traveling the world. Her father's job took him around the world alot but quidditch would be more exciting.

Jack smiled and shrugged. He wasn't sure whether she meant it or was just saying it so he decided to stay quiet. After a few minutes, an awkward silence perked up between them. Flicking his wand around his fingers, he looked around the room, wondering what they should talk about. "So tell me more about yourself." He said quietly, wanting to know more about her thoughts and plans rather than basic family history that anyone could talk about. He found that most people ended up talking to him about little things, like what their parents did, but he wanted to know what they thought about what their parents did for example. He wanted to know what no one else could tell him. He wanted to know more.

Gwen looked at him watching him as the silence built up between them. She shifted in her chair a few times but nothing popped into her head to say which was a first. Tell me about yourself, what more could she possibly say about herself. He already knew her past and her future was undetrimined, her present was here in the room there wasn't much more to her. "My eyes are blue. My hair is dirty blonde. I hate Transfiguration," she said listing out a few details about herself which were mostly obvious.

Jack laughed softly. "Ok, i guess i asked for that." He said, smiling at her still. "So? Have you discovered much in the castle yet?" He asked, wondering what terms of exploring she had done and where. The fifth years all seemed to know that they knew all the places in the castle, but they were wrong. Only the students that had been around long enough knew of those special places. The 7th years passed the knowledge down to the 1st years and only in their final year would they spill. So, the years in-between would never know some of the secrets unless someone told them. Some of Jack's friends saw this as treason, but Jack himself was too laid back. His mother said that if he was any more laid back, he would be horizontal. He found this funny, as with most things, but there was a streak to him that no one had yet seen, not even himself. A dark streak, one not to be messed with.

Gwen laughed slightly at Jack. Shaking her head she looked around the hidden room they were in. "Not at all, it's usually all books for me," she said shrugging her shoulders. Gwen wondered what other hidden places the castle had to offer. She had thought it was nothing like Hogwarts but it already seemed to be giving up a few secrets. "Would you show me around? Or have you decided to trick me getting me all exciting about seeing the school and are going to sit in the chair all day?" She asked him seeing how relaxed and comfortable he seemed in his own chair.

Jack smiled and gave a theatrical sigh. Dramatically staggering up, he turned around and smiled at her again. "Well, now i am up, will you join me?" He asked, holding out his hand to help her up politely. He continued to hold her hand and tugged her towards the door of the room, flicking his wand at the glasses and making them disappear, back to where the belonged. "What have you seen? I don't want to bore you." He said, smiling at her as he waited just by the door.

"I guess I have to join you," she said with a laugh as he pulled her along out the door. Looking around to where they were to make sure she knew she did know where they were, she glanced at the corridor. "Well, classrooms, Library, outside a bit, that room, my dorm.." she said leaving off knowing she hadn't actually seen much of the castle at all. Looking up at Jack she shrugged her shoulders before going back to looking around where they were.

Jack smiled at her. "Then i must give you a proper tour. This cannot do." He said, laughing slightly at the ignorance of the 5th years who only ever seemed to show the students the main things. He started walking and found himself outside the entrance. "Here is the entrance, but thats only for visitors. If you look behind this painting, when he is not asleep, there is another door that the older students use." He said, his voice in a stage whisper. He had found this door out a while ago, and he had been surprised when hardly anyone else knew about it. So, he had told his year and it had now become the norm for them all to use it.

Gwen nodded following him through the school with a smile on her face. Though she didn't like the fact he seemed to be a flirt like most veelas she let it slide for now as he gave her a tour. "So maybe I shouldn'e use it. I don't want to risk getting hexed," she said looking at the portrait of a man who was sleeping. On normal time he looked like he was an old professor or someone along the lines of that. "Where too now?" She asked looking around the grand staircase at the other doors on the level.

Jack frowned, something about the way she was acting made him suspicious that she was comfortable. "Are you ok?" He asked, waiting until he was confident that he got a truthful answer. He was just being nice, something that he knew could be easily interpreted differently, but was there really such a problem with being nice. He knew that it wasn't expected of him, what with being a half-veela in a dark art studying school. He noticed her glance at the stairs and shook his head. Walking towards a blank brick wall, he tapped it twice with his wand. A brick moved and he expertly stuck his hand inside. Twisting it, he unhinged it and opened it, revealing a small passage. He entered it and turned around waiting for her to join him.

Gwen continued to look around the place still waiting for him to continue on with the tour when he asked a strange question. He thinks I'm weird, I knew it; she thought to herself with a shake of her head. "Hmm? What do you mean?" She asked as she walked into the hidden corridor that he had opened in the wall. She stepped around him thinking he might have to close the wall behind her and didn't want to be in the way. Pulling out her wand she silently said the word in her head that would light it up. Looking over her shoulder at Jack she kept her eyes on his face as she waited for a reply from him.

Jack smiled at her as she joined him and flicked his wand at the wall, which moved back into the correct place. He also lit his wand and held it up in the tunnel, that was only a few metres high and about 2 metres wide. "Now, this is normally where you find lovesick couples snogging the life out of each other, but seeing as it is lesson time now, you might only see a few. It is supposed to be a quiet, deserted area but now all the couples use it." He said, his tone mocking now as he saw a single couple, kissing further down. He raised his eyebrows at them and they scurried past him and Gwen, looking down at the floor. He laughed as they left. "My point exactly, so when you have a boyfriend, you now know where to bring him." He said, smiling at her in a friendly way. "But i have never used it, too gushy for me." He added, not wanting her to get the opinion of him that he spent his life snogging girls down the tunnel. "I mean as in are you ok with me? You seem uncomfortable." He said, stopping at the tallest and widest point in the corridor so that they could have some room from each other. He guessed that that might help her even though he had no objection to being so close to the pretty girl. He wouldn't lay a finger on her, he liked her as a friend too much now.

Gwen nodded her head listening to what he was saying about the tunnel. "Does it have many enterances?" She asked wondering how big the tunnel was and where it ended up. Glancing at the passing couple she felt bad that her and Jack had disturbed their private time, of course they left Jack seemed to intimidate alot of people. She paused when he did looking back to see how far they had already come into the tunnel before answering his question. Though inside she knew she wasn't sure of the answer she had to give him one. "Oh I'm fine with you just taking in everything. It's a big place, not as big as Hogwarts but it's just different." She hadn't realized that seemed uncomfortable, but maybe it was because he was so relaxed and she had the genes of a Librarian and they were known to be uptight. Gwen stood there awkwardly pushing her hair out of her face as she waited for him to say something or continue on with the tour.

Jack smiled at her again, but warily this time. He took a wild guess that she was lying, but decided to pursue it no more, seeing as she didn't want to spill. He carried on walking down the tunnel and as they reached the exit, glanced left and right, wondering which way they should go. There were things to see in both directions, but he decided to go left. "Ok, so here is the picture of the founder of Durmstrang." He said, pointing to a large hanging portrait. He had never liked the picture much, but had found that other people did, liking the history behind it all. He sighed and carried on walking. Reaching another painting, he just smiled at it and let it swing open. He stepped through and offered his hand to help her climb through. The hole was rather small, and he had known a fat guy to get almost stuck in it. It had been hilarious and most people had just left him there all day, trying to work out how to get him out. That had been in their 3rd year and an angry professor had had to come and show the students how to remove stuck objects. He realised that this castle, although he didn't like it much, it held many memories to him that he loved and would treasure forever. As they climbed through, he pointed to a sign, engraved on the wall. "The mark of the deathly hallows." He said, his voice low and quiet now, remembering the respect and hatred that students held for the sign.

Gwen figured he caught onto her slight lie but she pushed the thought out of her mind. Looking up at the picture she tilted her head. "There's something that irks me about him," she said after looking at him for a few moments. She followed him to the portrait and smiled as it came open, another thing that reminded her of Hogwarts. She climbed in after him, using his hand to steady herself. His hand was different then anyone else's hand she has every held onto, soft to the touch but there was a roughness to it, almost like callouses. Gwen didn't let go straight away either, she let him lead her through the small tunnel. "Oh," she said seeing the deathly hallows mark on the wall. She knew the story of the Deathly Hallows and Harry Potter, all Hogwarts students were told about the Boy who lived. "Are you okay?" SHe asked her voice quiet wondering what had changed in him, he seemed put off since she answered his question.

Jack shook his head slightly. "Im fine. I would just suggest to be cautious around this place, some students have a worship for it, and others have a grudge. Take it from someone who knows, be respectful around here." He said, smiling at her and breathing in deeply. He shook his head again, clearing his brain of the strange thoughts that always seemed to occur when he was around the mark. He took her hand again, smiling at her touch and led her down another corridor. So far, he had taken her through a maze of corridors, and he would be surprised if she could find her way back. There was no one around and he wondered if she felt nervous around him, but he carried on anyway. They reached some stairs, and he started to climb them. After 100 steps, he turned around to see where she was. Smiling at her, he led her through a door and into a draughty room. "You have such a place like this in Hogwarts?" He asked, thinking of the North Tower that he had heard about. This place though, had a few random but dangerous birds around. Ignoring the beams that went through the roof and through the floor, he pulled her towards the open window, that surveyed the land which belonged to Durmstrang. "This place, is called the dancing room. But only by the older students, for we taught each other to dance properly here before we all went to a ball with some Beauxbatons students." He said, smiling at the memory of the amazing time he had had. "Will you join me?" He asked, holding out his hand and falling into the proper bow, used on the dance floor. He smiled up at her again and caught her eye, daring her to join him.

Gwenneth nodded to his answer following him past the deathly hallows sign and down the different corridors. She tried to remember the different turns they made but after awhile everything looked the same to her. When they reached stairs she stayed behind watching him walk up them, once he turned around to find her she quickly climb the stairs after him deciding he wasn't that bad afterall. Going into the room she smiled, it was very similar to the North Tower, a place she enjoyed to hang out in with her friends. "Yes, there is," she stated softly looking over towards the window and the view it offered. She watched him as he talked about the room, it had special memories from him just like the North Tower had for her. Gwen was suprised when he bowed to her offering his hand for a dance. His eyes were daring her so she curtised back to him and took his hand. Moving slightly closer she placed her other hand on his shoulder a light smile on her face.

Jack smiled as she accepted his offer to dance. He put his hand in hers and let her put her hand on his shoulder. He put his on her hip and pulled her closer, deciding that they couldn't dance properly being about a metre apart. He started to waltz, smiling as he spun her around the room. "You are a good dancer." He said with another smile. After a few minutes, he took a hand away and flicked his wand, producing an old music player that started to give them some music to dance to. Humming along, he replaced his hand and continued to dance with her. "Thats better. Now there is music." He said again, wondering what she thought of him. He was loving the moment, dancing with a friend, and for a few minutes, he was away in another land, dancing in a club with her, the beautiful girl that had his attention for now.

Gwenneth smiled as they spun around the room. It had been a long time since she had danced like this. Usually it was just out to parties with friends with crazy dancing. "You're better," she responded polietly as she enjoyed the moment of going around the tower's room in the arms of Jack. She didn't fully know what to think of him, he was similar to her last boyfriend. Older then her, a seventh year, part-veela. But now she was different then what she used to be like, she was older but most likely more ditzy and clumsy. Listening to the song he picked it seemed to fit the place they were in perfectly. "Do you sing?" She asked hearing his humming, she wondered what else there was about him that she didn't know.

Jack laughed. "Me sing? No, not really. I can just hum. But im sure you can right?" He asked, his eyes twinkling as he enjoyed the moment. "And my dancing isn't that good, we were all taught by older boys so that would explain why. But thanks anyway." He said, smiling at her. She was very pretty now that he looked closer and he was pleased that she wasn't getting dizzy, for he found that some people couldn't dance for 5 minutes without needing to sit down. He wondered what she was thinking about, for she seemed lost for a moment. He stopped humming, and faded it out quietly, leaving her to think but continuing to dance with her. He closed his eyes for a second, but then decided that it wasn't a good idea, as he steered her away from a beam that they were about to crash into. Laughing slightly, he smiled at her again.

Gwen smiled at his answer, she was pretty sure somewhere inside him was a singer. "I don't have any special talents," she admitted to him with a laugh. While dancing it seemed the tension she felt in the small tunnels disapeared and she was enjoying herself. Watching his face as they danced she noticed him close his eyes, figuring he must be enjoying this as well she left the silence hang around them only the music in the background keeping it from being completely silent. Leaning closer to him as he manuvered them away from a beam she smiled lightly.

Jack smiled as Gwen moved closer to him, not complaining. He held her there, so they flowed better with less air resistance, he told himself. "Im sure that you have something. Everyone does. Let me see, you are clever i think, from being in Ravenclaw. You are very pretty, and im not the only one to say it. And you know how to charm a guy well." He said, smiling at her but laughing at how talented she really was. Throughout his life, he hadn't ever felt about a girl like this and found it amazing to be so close to the girl who had changed his perspective on it all. He didn't know it yet, but one day he would begin to love her. For now though, she was just a very clever and pretty girl that had managed to trance him into dancing with her. Now that was a talent in itself. "And you are a good dancer." He noted, spotting how easily they both moved together, like two well practised instruments, harmonising on the same score. The music came to an end, but not willing to give up yet, he flicked his wand at it and a louder more playful tune struck up, demanding a quicker and more nimble dance. Flashing a dramatic scared look at Gwen, he twirled her around quickly and caught her again in his arms, smiling at their closeness but it still felt comfortable.

Gwen didn't believe the things he was saying. Sure she was smart or clever, but so was everyother Ravenclaw and she hadn't been near the top kids in her class there. She knew she was pretty, but it wasn't something she liked to acknowlegde. Gwen had had a veela beau before it actually wasn't that hard to get one if you knew how to miss with their minds. Of course she realized she had been doing the exact thing to Jack, playing hard to get was a chalenge but she wasn't sure she wanted to be his quest. "You're the good dancer, I'm just following," she finally answered. Hearing a bit of the music he turned to she was glad for it would release the tension between them if anything. Fast upbeat music had that tendiency; but has he spun her around and caught her once again her heart beat picked up seeing how close they were. Her eyes were wide in suprise but she gave up running and threw her head back laughing.
