Avie was happy to be back. He was now a second year and he was very much looking forward to being able to continue what he was doing from the last term. His holidays had been pretty fun. He'd met up with his old school friend, and they had played together. Gone to the ice rink. There was a small problem with his holiday was that his aunt had been very unhappy with his results, which had meant she'd made him take more classes with her. She had failed to do any good, and his cousins had used the time to scatter all his rocks into the garden. Which had been a fun game for Avie. He had enjoyed digging into the mud, trying to get his collection of rocks back. It was only when he then had been called inside and gotten into trouble for being so muddy that he'd stopped. Which he saw as a positive really. He was looking forward to being able to swim in the lake again, and find the rocks that he wanted once more. There were so many in their and perhaps so many that he could have an even bigger collection this time around. Hogwarts had so much for him, he was just looking forward to giving his rock collection another go. Just when the next holidays rolled around and he was at home, he'd choose to not actually take his rocks. Hide them much better than he had been. Avie however, was back at Hogwarts, ready for another year. He was looking forward to getting to the classes, he had really enjoyed watching the sorting. He was just very excited for the year that was to come. He hadn't given much more thought to the Rumor magazine, and he was happiest with that.

Avie was a rather simple boy, it was midday when he finally got himself outside. Out to enjoy the weekend before the classes got started. He didn't want to spend his first day in the lake. He had plenty time to look for the new rocks. He didn't want to go back to the forest, and the flowers weren't in bloom, though they would be soon. Instead Avie just lay down on the grass, the large lawn. Picking up little strands of grass and throwing them to the side. Playing the random strand in his hair, rubbing his hands with grass in the middle to get grass stains all over his hands. He then proceed to wipe his hands on what was once his nice clean t-shirt. Now, not so much. It was an overcast day, it was still winter after all, it wasn't particularly warm, but it wasn't like those details bothered Avie in the slightest. After a few minutes still playing with the grass, rain started to fall around the Slytherin. He liked rain as much as the next person but it hadn't really been part of his plan for the day. He glanced around and noticed a large tree, scrambling to his feet, Avie broke into a sprint to the tree as the rain hammered down hard and fast. He slipped a number of times, tripping up over his feet, before he sort of just tumbled to where it was much more dry. Avie laughed to himself, and just watch the rain. His jeans were muddy as were his trainers. He was soaked, but he still was happy. It was nice to be back, and it wasn't like a little fall of rain hurt anyone really. Avie pushed his back against the trunk of the tree, and just watched the rain around him.

Kris was outside when it started to rain. Lessons hadn’t started yet but Kris was reading anyway. It never hurt to be prepared. As he was reading, another boy, a Slytherin, had sat down not too far from him on the grass. Kris noted his messy hair and now slightly muddy shirt when the rain began.

Kris looked away momentarily as he slipped his book and glasses into his bag and the next thing he knew the other boy was stumbling towards him and the tree. He moved out of the way as the other boy laughed and fell. He drew away as he sat down.

This would be the first person he'd talked to since arriving at Hogwarts. Even if he was a Slytherin. He hadn’t had the best of experiences with Slytherin’s, he thought as he recalled the train incident. He pulled his Hufflepuff scarf around him and brushed down his jeans as he moved towards the other boy.

"Err.. Hey." Kris Said Lightly. "Mind if I join you?"

Avie was happily staring at the rain. It was one of the few moments where the boy was almost stationary. He was very often moving about doing something, but he wasn't doing anything. Wasn't playing with his hands, the ground, or anything. He was just sitting watching the rain. A voice broke through and Avie looked round to who had spoken, a pretty large smile on his face. The guy seemed nervous for some reason, and Avie titled his head slightly at him. He was around Avie's age, maybe younger, and Avie hadn't seen him around the school, so he had to assume it was a first year. He noted the Hufflepuff scarf, but the boy didn't really care for that sort of thing. He nodded at him, of course Avie wouldn't mind if he was joined by this boy. The more the merrier, that was what he always said. "Not at all" He said happily, patting the slightly damp ground next to him. He took his jumper off and placed it over the ground so that if the boy sat next to him, he wouldn't have to deal with the slightly wet ground, if it did maybe bother him. Avie was not bothered by it, and he was loving this.

"I'm Avie" He said with a bright smile at the boy. Holding out a hand to him, then realising his hands were pretty muddy, he chuckled happily. Wiping his hand against his t-shirt until most of the mud was away. "Sorry, I get pretty dirty" He shrugged as if it was a completely normal thing. Which to him it really was. He wondered if the boy was like him, or was a tiny bit more proper, which was more than likely, Avie found that he was fairly alone in his love for mud. "You first year?" He asked with a bright smile, "And a hufflepuff! I'm slytherin, but I don't like spending time in Slytherin, because the dungeons and the darkness make people grumpy, and I don't want to be grumpy." He still believed that, he believed that if he gave Professor Styxa hug every so often, he might be able to help him be less grumpy.

Kris smiled as the boy took his jumper off and placed it next to him for Kris to sit down. He sat as Avie brushed his hands onto his shirt, leaving mud streaks across it. "I'm Kris." he said by way of introduction.

Kris laughed when Avie said "Sorry, I get pretty dirty." it was evident from his now muddied top, that that was true. He himself didn't mind mud, but preferred not to get muddy, especially in the rain as the mud would splash and drip into his shoes.

"Yeah. I got sorted yesterday. And you are quite a controversial Slytherin, Avie." Kris said, smiling widely. "So how is it here at Hogwarts? Are people nice?"

The boy in front of Avie seemed nice and friendly, although really from a hufflepuff he expected nothing less than that. Avie had met a good amount of hufflepuffs in his time as first year, they were all exceedingly kind and he couldn't name one he disliked at this point. Avie thought that it was like the yellow of their uniform. Working in pretty much the same way as the darkness of the slytherin dungeon with just slightly more positive results. Since they were friendly and not grumpy. He smiled as the boy sat on his jumper, it had been a telling off from his aunt that she had told him about how some people didn't like mud and weren't so drawn to it as Avie was. Avie didn't really believe her, but he was willing to listen to her and give it the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she was right, god Avie could shiver at that. He hated when she was right. It was honestly the worst thing. The boy introduced himself as Kris and Avie smiled at him. "Kris with a C-H or a K" he asked, he could spell Kris he just needed to know which version it was. It was simple enough for him to read and understand. "Technically my name is Avery, but I could never remember how to spell it when I was young so I shortened it to Avie!" Avie told him with a bright smile.

During his first year Avie had found it funny that no one had really picked up about his name. It wasn't like Avie was a normal name, and as his cousins always told him it was or is a girls name. When the boy said he got sorted yesterday Avie gave a small cheer, "Congrats!" he stopped himself from giving Kris a hug, knowing that they'd just met. It was a little forward. Then the boy asked about hogwarts and Avie's smile grew. He nodded happily at him. "Hogwarts is great. There is so much to do. So much to explore. The people are great to. I have a really grumpy room mate who I think really likes my rock collection, we played target practice. I was the target, but it'll be his turn next time. And the other hufflepuffs are really fun." he paused for a moment, really to take a breath. "This dude I know from Hufflepuffs swears down he found a room filled with Bertie Botts every flavour beans. I haven't found it yet, but I really want to." Avie gave a laugh, and glanced back out at the falling rain, he really loved everything about this school. "Hogwarts is pretty incredible. You'll have a great time Kris. Whether you like sports, reading or messing around like me!"

Sorry if there are any mistakes I'm on my phone.

He smiled. "Kris with a K," he said. His full name was Kristophoros, but he never told anyone that. He hated his full name; it was long and time consuming. Kris shifted comfortably on the jumper, placing his bag down beside him and looking out across the grass at a few other students running towards the castle in the downpour.

He turned back to Avie as he congratulated him, and he smiled again. He didn't know why he kept smiling, maybe it was Avie, being nice and everything. Kris was glad he was in Hufflepuff as everywhere else didn't seem right somehow, well for him anyway. Kris nodded as Avie told him there was lots to explore, Kris didn't understand how being a target could be fun, but the again, he had never had a rock collection.

Avie then told him about a room full of sweets and Kris was hooked. Now all the doubts he had about not belonging were gone. He had to help Avie find this room sometime. Then Avie mentioned two of his favorite things; messing around and reading. He knee them two things didn't really mix but it was just his thing.

"We have to go find this room sometime."Kris exclaimed excitedly.

Avie nodded happily when the boy told him how his name was spelt. He laughed about it, finding it a little strange that this boy spelt it with a K, rather than the more normal C-H, but considering he gave himself his nickname of Avie, then he could hardly be one to talk. He smiled at the other of the two, nodding, glad that this boy seemed to both like him and was happy. Avie chuckled to himself at the boy's strange silence. Avie wasn't really used to it. "You're a quiet one. Nervous?" he asked brightly, "Can't imagine why you would be. You'll be fine Kris. Hufflepuff is a good house." He said to him, giving the boy a pat on the back. He was happy to help the boy in any way that he could, but he wasn't that smart. "And I can help you if you have any trouble. Well, I can try. I'm not that smart" He said to him with a small shrug of his shoulders, though it didn't seem to bother him so much.

As the other boy spoke, he shook his head. "Me and my friend, Marcel, whose also a hufflepuff. He's really nice. We looked for it, but it wasn't there. I mean we looked really hard, but nothing. It was gone the room. Seriously. I absolutely believe that he saw it. But, we have had no luck" He sighed slightly. "I'm still looking for it, but, you know, it's gone" He sighed slightly, a little annoyed. "I ended up just going to the kitchen to eat some. The little elves had some, so not a complete disappointment. Do you like sweets? Are you from New Zealand?" He asked, hoping that he could get the boy to say a little more. He seemed a little nervous. Either that, or Avie was saying too much.

"I'm not nervous." Kris said, with a slight laugh to his voice. "I just don't talk much." He looked up as Avie patted him on the back and smiled. "I'm sure you are smart Avie, See I'm talking." He didn't mean to be quiet it was just him.

He heard Avie mention a boy named Marcel, another Hufflepuff. Kris made a mental note to remember him as Avie told him the room was gone.

"Why don't you ask a teacher about this room?" Kris asked, crestfallen that this room was gone. he hoped to discover it, even if Avie and Marcel hadn't found it again.

Then Avie mentioned the elves.

"Elves? They have House Elves here?" Kris hadn't known that. "And nope I'm not from around here, you?"

Avie smiled when the boy said he wasn't nervous. He seemed maybe a little bit, but Avie was not altogether very good at reading people. He wondered what it would be like to not talk so much. Even when Avie was alone he would say stuff to himself. He would dance to himself or sing to himself, even though he was pretty bad at it. Avie grinned happily, shaking his head at his new friend. "Oh no Kris, I'm really not smart. I'll try to help you, but I'm not smart at all" He shrugged at him, just so that Kris knew to not rely on Avie's knowledge to get things done. Or, for Help. Avie was just sure that he didn't want to lose a new friend because he didn't help him get the right answer.

"It's alright if you're quiet, I'm loud enough for the two of us!" He said, jumping to his feet and running into the rain laughing at the top of his lungs, before running back to where Kris sat. He almost did it to show Kris he could be loud enough for both of them. Asking a teacher about the room, well, that was strange really. A professor wouldn't be much help they'd want to take the sweets away from them. "Professors would want to keep the sweets." He said with a small frown. Professors wouldn't share sweets. Professor liked to keep stuff like that. Then with the elves, "Yup, house elves get you food! It's amazing, and yeah, I'm from New Zealand." He told the boy, "Where are you from?" However, all this talking was getting Avie to be pretty anxious to do something. "You want to play tig or something?" He wasn't sure if the other boy would want to, but it could be fun despite the rain.

Kris nodded. "Well then, I'll be the smart one, and you can do the talking."he laughed, trying not to make it sound like he was insulting his new friend.

He laughed some more as Avie ran into the rain, getting wet. As he came back Kris smiled at him.

"I'm from Canada, ya know. Just above America." Kris could see Avie was getting restless and wasn't surprised when he asked to play Tig.

"Wait, what's that over there?"Kris pointed, as he Tigged Avie and ran into the rain. He smiled and ran a bit further, not looking back to see if Avie was chasing him.

Avie nodded to his new friend. he could definitely deal with him being the smart one, and Avie being the one that messed around and did the talking. He was very much okay with that. He liked doing that part more than he had ever enjoyed the learning part. Learning was fine, but he wasn't good at it, so he wasn't that smart. Although considering recent actions by the boy, most would definitely agree that Avie Mitchell wasn't very smart. He smiled friendly at the boy, as he told him, that he was from Canada. He knew Canada, it was big. It was bigger than New Zealand. The people from Canada had strange accents like the boy in front of him. Avie was however very pleased when Kris decided to get on board with the tig thing. He seemed happy, and then threw Avie a curve ball, by asking what was over at the over side. Avie glanced over, "I can't see anything?" he said, but then he realised that Kris had fooled him and was already running further ahead. "oh you sneaky little Hufflepuff" Avie yelled to him, as he got to his feet and ran after Kris. Kris was fast, but Avie pushed himself until finally he was close enough in reach, "Tig" He cried loudly, before running as fast as he could in the opposite direction, glancing back every so often to see if Kris was chasing him.

Kris laughed as Avie chased him. He laughed even louder when he yelled "Sneaky Little Hufflepuff." He was glad to know he could still trick people and more glad still that he was fast. But obviously not fast enough, as Avie Tigged him. Kris turned around and chased Avie across the grass, rain dripping into his eyes.

He was fast, but he kept slowing down every time he checked behind him, which gave Kris extra time to catch up. This time he bundled into the back of Avie, pulling him down and sitting on him. He laughed, still not Tigging Avie, wondering how he would escape. "What you going to do now?!" He laughed.

Avie ran as fast as he could. The boy was pretty fast as far as things went. He could really manage to run far if he wanted to, but unfortunately, he kept looking back to see how close Kris was. It was a game of tig, and the boy was just looking for some more amusement in terms of something else which could be done, this was exactly it. When Avie turned back to look forward, he was realising that Kris had really gained up on him. And before he knew it, Kris had dragged the boy to the floor. He was virtually immobile from his place on the floor. Avie continued to laugh, knowing that this sneaky little hufflepuff had gotten the better of him this time. So, in coming up with a plan to get out of this situation, the boy just started coughing. He was just faking it, but he hoped that enough coughing from him, would cause some panic in his new friend and give Avie the chance to run away. He kept coughing and coughing, scrunching up his face as if trying to get some air. He was really hoping that it would work. Only Time would tell really.

Kris panicked for a second and stood up in a rush. "Oh God. Are you okay?" he asked to his friend. "I'm so sorry man." He looked worriedly about to see if there was anyone around who could help, but he saw no one else in rain. He wondered if he should run up to the castle quickly, but he was afraid to leave Avie on his own. If he was older he could use magic to somehow get help, but he was only a first year. He began to bite his jumper nervously, shivering in the cold, while watching Avie.

It was very much to his relief that he was being believed by his friend. He knew that this was a cheap move, but as a slytherin he knew that he was definitely not above it. He watched as his friend moved away from him and seemed to be growing in panic and concern. So, very quickly Avie's coughing turned to laughter, he jumped up to his feet. "Got you!" He called to his friend and then ran off in the other direction. He was laughing loudly as he attempted to run in the opposite direction. He didn't stop from glancing round and looking back at the boy who was chasing him, his new friend. He was really enjoying this. Though Avie was sure that his friend was maybe a little more interested in getting inside soon. He would know exactly where to go to too, where they could both clean up, and also get dry. Instead of having to go to their separate dorms. He was pretty happy that he had run into Kris. He glanced back and laughed at his friend. He maybe felt a little bad about what he'd done, but considering he was still not caught it didn't bother him too much. Avie was just having too much fun with this.

Kris went from worried, to confused, to angry, and then to laughter in less than a second. He should have tigged him when he had the chance he thought as he started to run after him.

"You complete Broomhead!" Kris yelled laughing as he stumbled and almost fell to the floor. He had almost caught up to Avie again, when he noticed that they were slightly veering towards the forest which Kris vaguely recalled was off limits to students.

He gradually got closer to Avie, and Tigged him in the back. As they were now at the edge of the forest Kris quickly turned and hid behind a tree, almost certain that Avie wouldn't have seen him, Though to be sure he took off his Hufflepuff scarf and hid it beneath the folds of his cloak.

Avie was really running as fast as he could, laughing really hard, when he was called a broomhead. He was so happy, laughing so much. Looking round at his friend as he pushed on. He knew that he was running towards the forest, though Avie had a plan to turn and run the other way if he got too close but, he would wait until the last moment. He just didn't know what to do. Avie had no intention of heading into that forest. However, when Avie was tigged in the back by Kris, he groaned loudly and came to a skidding halt. He took a few moments to catch his breath, and in that moment and then when he looked round and noticed that his new friend was no where to be seen. "Kris!" He called out. He couldn't spot his friend. The yellow hufflepuff scarf was easy to spot, but he couldn't see it anywhere, "Kris" He called out again. Avie was beginning to think that maybe he had imagined his friend. Had he imagined Kris? That he'd actually just made him up in his head. "Kris" Avie called out again, "Where are you? Were you in my head?" he asked out loud, unsure as to if he'd been real. "KRIS" he yelled almost becoming desperate to know if he had imagined the entire thing. It never occurred to Avie to look in the forest, he just took a seat on the grass, attempting to figure out where he could've gone. Unsure about where his friend had gone, if he had been real. "You're the broomhead" Avie muttered.

Kris stifled a giggle when Avie turned and couldn't see him but when it was evident that Avie was getting desperate he moved through the trees so he could see better.

He felt a pang of guilt when he heard Avie ask If he was in Avie's head. Feeling bad he unravelled the Hufflepuff scarf and left it on the lower branch of the tree so that Avie could see it. He then ventured into the forest very slightly deeper so if Avie came to see the scarf, Kris would be able to see him, but not the other way around.

Avie didn't honestly know where his friend had gone. He just sat listening to the rain as it continued to fall around and on him. Then he heard what he was sure was a stifled giggle. He glanced round, but still saw nothing. He sighed slightly, and then wondered if he should just leave. His mind was clearly playing tricks on him, Avie wondered if perhaps he had a fever or something. It had happened before. Then as he glanced back at the forest he noticed the hufflepuff scarf on a low branch of a tree. He stood up slowly and pulled the scarf down. It felt real, it was wet, so maybe it hadn't been his imagination and actually Kris was real, perhaps just in the forest. Avie had promised that he wouldn't go into the forest. "Kris?" He said, taking a few small steps, at least within the forest it was slightly drier. "Kris?" he repeat elongating the word slightly. The slytherin went slightly deeper into the forest, though kept an eye on the exit. "Kris, if you're real, then I really shouldn't go any further, I'll get lost, and I'm sort of hungry. I could really go for some chocolate cake right now." He called out, stopping and just glancing around himself. "Kris?"

When Avie picked up the scarf Kris moved. Staying in the shadows he slowly circled around until he was almost behind Avie. It was getting scary being in the forest and Kris was regretting hiding here, and risking his and Avie's safety.

Ever so slightly he got closer to Avie and then he jumped. "AVIE!!" he hugged him from behind almost falling over. "Chocolate cake sounds good." He laughed, hoping he hadn't scared or made Avie angry. "Can we leave now, the forest is giving me the chills." He tugged slightly on Avie's sleeve, hoping to get out of the forest as quickly as possible.

Avie was giving his possible friend, or imaginary friend another minute or so to appear before he left. "Kri.." His word was cut off, when someone from behind yelled his name and put him in a hug. Caught by surprise, Avie jumped and then screamed at the very top of his lungs. Scrambling away from the person who had jumped out and ending up tripping slightly over his own feet and falling to the floor. He turned quickly and saw that it was Kris, at this he let out a huge sigh of relief. "Holy sh1t." the boy said, the shock still clear in his voice. Though now he began to laugh, he got straight to his feet and shoved his friend ever so slightly, in a friendly manner. "You just scared the life out of me." he said laughing, attempting to get himself under control. "Where did you go? I was beginning to think that I had imagined you." he asked Kris, while handing the boy his scarf. Just as he asked if they could leave, which of course Avie was more than happy to do. Chocolate cake did sound like a really good idea. He nodded and walked towards the exit and back into the rain. "We can go to the kitchen's they always have chocolate cake!" he told his friend, as he headed back towards the tree where they'd been sat before. Just so that he could grab his jumper.

"Aww you was scared." Kris giggled, after his friend screamed, jumped and tripped all in his haste to get away from his 'Attacker'. He laughed as the boy swore and Kris shook his head.

"I was hiding in the trees and you walked into my trap." he said as he indicated his house scarf. "Of course I'm not imaginary." As they walked towards the exit of the forest, Avie said they should go get chocolate cake, but as nice as that sounded Kris had other things on his mind. "Avie, we're soaking wet..."

Avie could barely contain his breathing as he began walking out the forest. He smiled at his friend, though he had been scared by him. "Man that was so clever!" he exclaimed with a happy tone. He couldn't believe that his friend had in the end one uped him. Sure, he knew that Kris was probably smarter than him, there were probably plenty of people who were, but he had thought his coughing thing had been super convincing and really cool, what Kris had done had been better. At his next words, Avie just shrugged. It wasn't the first time it had happened, though admittedly, this was the first time that he'd been unsure. Most of the time Avie could actually tell, this time it had been too tricky. He definitely hadn't known at all. "You disappeared on me" He told him shrugging at his friend. "I just assumed I'd made you up. I hit my head a lot, that kind of thing is bound to happen" he told his friend with a bright smile. Finally they reached the tree and Avie was able to grab his jumper. Kris's next words really confused him. What did it matter if they were wet? "And?" he asked, not understanding why Kris was saying that. "Doesn't matter. I guess we could get changed into some dry clothes if you wanted to, but I don't think it's necessary"

"I suppose." Kris said as Avie explained why he thought Kris was imaginary. They got to the tree and Kris picked up his bag as Avie picked up his jumper. "What are you doing tomorrow?" He asked, Avie was the only other person he'd really talked to but Kris didn't want to seem clingy.

"It's fine, I don't mind being wet, as long as we don't get told off for dripping all over the floor." He said as he turned to look out from the tree. He could see the glow of candles in the windows and he couldn't wait to get inside.

Avie looked at his friend and gave him a small shrug. He hadn't really made plans. Avie didn't often really make plans. Though he began to try to think about what he might actually be doing with his day. Then he ended up remembering. While he had plans to spend time getting his little bit of the dorm room his again, adding better pictures, Avie had plans with Marcel. "I'm meeting Marcel!" he told him with a bright smile, "But, I'm free the next day!" he added. Knowing that this way he might still get the chance to hang out with his friend. Just not the next day. He wasn't bothered by Kris wanting to hang out he really liked the boy, they were friends. At what he said next, Avie just smiled at him. "We won't. I usually go straight back into the castle with my wet clothes almost as soon as I come out the lake. No one ever says anything" He smiled at his friend. "Plus the kitchen has a fire we can dry by!" He told him. Walking slightly ahead and in the direction of the castle. "I'm glad your not imaginary Kris" Avie smiled at his friend and then walked into the castle.
