Aion still had three days before he was due to go home to his wife and daughter, and spend four weeks at the couples new home in New Zealand. They'd managed to find a gorgeous house a few months prior that would act as their base for the family as they watched their children grow, until the time that they were old enough to travel once more as a group. Aion had so many plans, so many places he wanted to take them all and show them, but their safety was always going to come first, and he trusted Cyan to raise them during the weeks when he was away. Taking time out in chunks was straining, but as long as they could make it work between them first, they were happy for Aion to continue his career as a Magizoologist.
In the last few weeks of Cyan's pregnancy, Aion had agreed not to leave New Zealand. While it was easy to travel further with various means, should there have been an emergency it wouldn't have taken a huge amount of time to reach her. What he didn't expect though, was to have to enforce that emergency. The man had been in the middle of attempting to take a blood sample from a sleeping swooping evil, that had only taken most of the day waiting to approach, but when he lifted the vial towards the green creatures spikes, his eyes met the bright red metal that was glowing around the ring finger on his right hand. He'd never actually seen it bright red before. Even when Cyan was angry or upset it never turned red. The rings he'd bought them nearly five years ago hadn't been much more of sentimental value, and an item he wore constantly to feel close to his wife while away, and seeing it shine now brought sudden horror to his mind.
He back tracked as quickly as he could, knowing he had to return to Cyan as fast as he could. It could have been the baby, but it could have been something else. Merlin, he'd never even considered that Iris could have done with one too, to know if she were also in trouble. What if something terrible had happened at the house? He apparited the fastest route he knew how, landing in a sweaty nauseated heap in the garden seventeen minutes later. He darted across the lawn and up the stairs, bursting into the lodge, partly relieved it wasn't on fire but upon entering, all he could hear was various cries coming from one side of the house. "Cyan?" he called out as he ran through the house, headed towards the noise that was quickly breaking his heart. At least they were here, at least they were here and he could do something.
