Convincing her mother to let Lily visit Coventry for a date with Clifton had been easier than Lily had expected. Probably because she hadn't told her dad she was on her first real date today. Still, the day had been amazing, and Lily couldn't be happier. After meeting up with Clifton, he had shown her around Coventry. Seeing where he had been raised was fascinating to her, and she found that she had really loved the town.
She had especially loved the few hours they had spent by the river, wandering the riverbanks in search of the perfect stone that matched the others eyes. She had found his after nearly an hour of careful examination, had finally settled on a dark brown stone, smooth and round. It was a deep, earthy color that reminded her of a dark soil, warm and rich between her fingers, cool and comforting. It was beautiful, and she was almost tempted to keep it. But still she gave it to him, brushing an errant curl from his eyes with a warm smile.
They had wandered over to some nearby shops, and Lily was tucked closely in his side, her fingers intertwined with his and her other hand perched on his elbow. She smiled softly, resting her cheek on his arm. "I've had a wonderful time today, Clif," she murmured, content to stay close to him.
