A Birthday Secret

It was true. Ryuuji indeed, had acquired this habit of just messing with others' hairs, or more so, he had gotten used to petting the twins. He cannot help it, cause really, they were just that adorable that one cannot help but to grow quickly attached to them. And that's what happened with him. Though of course, it was really not that surprising. He is the type of person who can quickly be friends with someone, be it that they have the same interests with him or not. "Cause it's fun. I hope you don't mind it, cause well... you better get use to it already." He said, smiling that catlike smile of his, his eyes appearing to be seemingly closed from smiling. He then burst to a series of laughter when he heard the younger girl laugh too. It was just too funny. Her laughter is, something that can make other people laugh or smile too.

"I'll take care of her Conan-kun. Even if we'll be on different teams. I will." It was something that he'd do for real. Cause when it comes to those persons that are really important for him, he can give up the things that he wanted for himself. Quidditch is a fun sport, but it can get pretty messy too, especially with those bl0ody bludgers around. It would be hard. He had experienced it first hand last match. The hit was quite painful, but the recovery was even worse. Especially the potion that one had to drink. It's really nasty. He didn't want to experience it again. And he won't let the same happen to her too. Though of course, it is not entirely possible to prevent that from ever happening. But at least, he can try. But that too would be different if they'd be on different teams then. "Don't pressure yourself though, just have fun." Being high up in the air, playing your favorite sport, one should enjoy that feeling. It's hard to enjoy if you're being pressured too much, but that is part of it too. But what's best is to enjoy and have fun even if one would lost.

Conan couldn't help but smile when his sister burst out in laughter just because of his comment. It was not that funny to him really, but, maybe it was since his sister could barely stopped the laughter coming from her mouth. The Ravenclaw had told them the reason why he liked to mess with their hair. "Really? For fun?" the young boy thought to himself. It wasn't a curious thought, in fact, it was an amusing one. The older boy really seizes to amuse him. Their wasn't a dull moment when this boy was around. "Shinpai shinaide (Don't worry). I've gotten used to it already." he told the boy. "And I think not only she has gotten used to it, but I think she likes it too," he whispered to the Ravenclaw. "I wonder if he'll get my hints. He should be smarter than Mitsuhiko-kun so I think he'll get it too," he thought to himself.

"You better make sure of that!" he told the boy seriously. Tsukino-senpai better keep his word or Conan would really get mad. And no one likes it when he's mad, because he only gets totally mad when it involves Ai. After what he said, he instantly noticed the punch Ai was going to land on his shoulder and he instantly blocked it. Conan couldn't help but smile when his sister started to complain. "No way. Learn how to punch me by yourself," he calmly said. When the girl told him that he was expecting a lot from her the boy could only smile and say, "Yes, I do. But not at the point where I would get mad when you don't meet my expectations. It's because you work hard just to meet other's expectations and at the same time you look like you're having fun. So, I'm proud of you, Sis."

The young girl was confused. Confused but happy. She was confused at the sudden burst of laughter of her senpai. "Did I look funny laughing?" she asked the boys innocently. Happy because she could see Ryuuji-niisan laugh because of her, even though she wasn't sure what she did. But it was more than enough to make her birthday celebration one of the bests. "Hai (Yes)! Used to it already!" she told her senpai blushing lightly. The young girl had seen the catlike smile of the older boy. "Ne, Onii-chan (Hey, Brother). Be careful when Ryuuji-niisan shows that kind of smile, okay?" she said playfully sticking out her tongue like a baby.

When the boys were talking about protecting her during the Quidditch Match, the young girl stood up. "No way! No one's going to protect or take care or watch over me in any of my matches. Be it Quidditch, Karate or any other sports. Got it?" she told both of the boys with a sort of threatening voice. She didn't like being protected in her own fights, especially during sports, she likes doing things on her own at times like those. The young girl took her seat once more. "You watch. I'll be able to punch you by myself someday," she told her brother with quite confidence, although she knew that it would be a long way ahead. After Conan told her that he indeed expects much from her and he is also proud of her, the young girl smiled and said, "Arigatou, Onii-chan (Thanks, Brother)!"

"You don't look funny Ai-chan. You look adorable. Like a little kitten I think." Ryuuji said, words flowing naturally from him. People who knows him knew that he was the type of person who wouldn't hold back with his words especially if they were true and specially if it's not to hurt someone. He's the type of person who would just spurt out the things that he were thinking, too much in fact that there were times that he would say them out loud even without meaning to do it so. That had happened a lot of times already, and Ai might have been used to it too. When the twins admitted that they were already used with those gestures of affection of his, he cannot help but to smile. At least they don't feel awkward about it at all. Cause if they don't like it, then he'll have to stop doing it even though he admits that it is something that he really like to do. Cause as what he had said, it was fun. Once again, for the nth time that day though, Conan's words had confused him and made him think. Was he implying something? He had already had an idea. Maybe she likes him then? That would only be natural he guessed, caused he likes her too. And he likes Conan, he like them both. They're like his siblings after all. Though of course, he cares must admit, though he's not fond of favoritism and the like, Ai had this certain edge. He doesn't want to hurt her, he wants to protect her and all. And indeed, she is important to him. "I'm happy if Ai likes it." He uttered randomly, without any ill intention or without meaning to say it so. Now, because of this things that Conan was telling him then, he had to think things thoroughly, had to really find out what the younger boy meant with everything that he had said. He pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind as he turned his attention towards the twins again- with Ai warning Conan about that catlike smile of his. "Mou, Ai-chan, nii-san's not dangerous... at least, for most of the time that is." He said, pouting a little which made him look like a young kid acting innocent after he had been scolded by his parents.

"We're not going to intrude with your businesses Ai-chan, just making sure that you won't get hurt or anything. We know you're strong enough to take care of yourself. But as your big brothers, we always have your back, ne Conan-kun?" He then flashed a smile towards the younger boy in defense to what Ai had said about her not wanting them to take care of her. He was about to say something else when he remembered about the gift that he had been meaning to give the twins for their birthday. The day that he had learned that the twins' birthday had passed, and the day that he had decided to hold a little celebration for them, he had immediately owled his parents, asking them to send him some gifts. He had specifically told them what he wanted for them to buy. And he was really happy that they were able to send it to him. "Ah.. matte, here Ai-chan, Conan-kun. It's not much, but.. Happy birthday!" He exclaimed, reaching out for the basket that he had with him and taking out to gifts that had been carefully wrapped. The gift that he had for Ai was a necklace with the kanji of her name in it . Love. It was something that the younger girl deserves. There was also a pair of earrings which had a kanji that says "kokoru", or "heart". As for conan, it was one with the kanji of victory in it. He knew that the boy would achieve much success in his life, and he wished him well. He also gave him some books. He knew how much the boy loved to read, and he hoped that he'd really like this gift of his. "Ah by the way, Ai-chan, I told my mom about your birthday. And you knew that she's a fashion designer, right? So, she sent something for you too. Here it is. She'll love to hear what you thinks about it."

Conan couldn't help but smile at the sudden question of his younger sister. Really, she asked them if she looked funny while laughing. But that thought never passed his mind. The answer of the Ravenclaw was almost the same as his answer and he nodded. "Cute and adorable," he commented. He knew the compliments would have an effect on the girl so he was careful as to not give out so many. The young boy watched as the older boy tried to solve the hints he was dropping. The Ravenclaw seems to have a hard time solving it. It can't be help, as far as Conan could remember, Tsukino-senpai never dealt anything with love or like. The boy laughed at the warning of the young girl, "Hai (Yes). People with catlike smile do seem like they're up to something," he said with a catlike smile as well.

"That's right, Ai. But, you know Tsukino-senpai, with her tone like that, she really meant what she said. Guess this Quidditch Match would be like your Karate Matches. I would just be praying to the Gods then cheer you on," he said with a sigh. Conan hated watching from the sidelines. It made him feel useless and he definitely didn't like it. The young boy was taken by surprise when the boy had handed him a gift. Conan rarely receives gifts for his birthday. He only received one from Ayumi and Ai since Genta and Mitsuhiko would give presents to Ai instead. While his uncle and aunt were mostly in charge for the food they were going to eat. And this year, he had received a present from a senpai. He opened the gift and saw a necklace with the kanji of victory on it. "Arigato (Thank you)," he said with a smile on his face. But what caught his eyes were the books. The boy carried the books and ran around jumping in joy. "Ai! They're books! Not just any books! Sherlock Holmes! Holmes, Ai! Holmes!" he said calming himself down as he took a seat. "Arigato, arigato, arigato (Thank you, thank you, thank you)! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!" he said happiness not leaving his face. He already paid no attention to the gifts received by his sister as he was happy with his own.

Ai was glad that she didn't look like an idiot. After all, it would be embarrassing to look like one. Especially, when you look like you're laughing for no reason. But, the young girl blushed a bit at the way her companions had answered the question. Really, they could have just said yes or no. But, they still had to compliment her. "A-a-arigato (T-t-thanks)," she said quite softly. How the boys had reacted to her statement really freaked her out. Now they were both smiling like Cheshire? This was not good. "Mou (Jeez)! Stop teasing me already, Ryuuji-niisan, Onii-chan (Brother)!" she shouted in a playful voice of hers. The catlike smiles of her companions made her think that a trick was up their sleeves.

"Arigato, Onii-chan. Arigato (Thank you, Brother. Thank you), Ryuuji-niisan," she said. The older boys had wanted to protect her and she knew that from the start. But the young girl had times when she wanted to do things on her own. And, she was grateful that the Ravenclaw was volunteering to back her up. The young girl's thoughts were disrupted when the older boy had greeted them a happy birthday once again and this time gave them present. She opened her present containing a necklace and a pair of earrings. Each both had a design relating to her name. It made her smile and hug her senpai, "Arigato (Thank you)," she whispered in the ear of the older boy before she let go. A bit of quiet environment was disrupted by the sudden outburst of joy from her brother. He had been given a set of books on Sherlock Holmes. "How'd you know Sherlock Holmes was his favorite?" she asked Ryuuji-niisan not sure if she had mentioned it to him or not. But nonetheless, her brother was happy and it was showed. The young girl however, least expected the second gift from her senpai's mother. The girl hesitantly opened it to see a one piece pink dress, self-designed by the boy's mother. "Kawaii! Arigato! (Cute! Thank you!) I love it!" she said standing up then jumping in glee, looking like a five-year-old kid.

<COLOR color="#2F4F4F">"We're not teasing you Ai-chan, see... Nii-san and Conan-kun are innocent.." Ryuuji said as he raised he hands in front of him, smiling still that catlike smile of his that seemed to be pasted on the younger boy's face too, basing on the younger girl's reaction. "But if we are.. well, we can't help it, Ai-chan just too adorable to ignore, ne, Conan-kun?" This statement came as a complement to the first one that he had just said. He meant it. The way that the girl's expressions changes were funny, but not in a bad way. It was cute, and definitely suits her too. This is probably one of the reasons why he had quickly been drawn to her, quickly treated her as a really really close friend, as well as a sibling. Not that it was hard for him to be attached to a person, but the twins are different. There had been no awkwardness at all, and despite them just meeting only for a few months, it seemed that he had known them forever.

Ryuuji was filled with joy as he watched the two opened their presents. He was a bit nervous actually, for he wasn't entirely sure whether they would like it. He knew that the twins were not rude to show the disappointment in their faces if in case they didn't like his gifts, but still it would be really great if they would like his gifts for real. Luck didn't disappoint him though, for as soon as the gift wrappings had been torn as scattered all over the place, the twins' reactions made him really really happy. He was a bit surprised of the hug given by the younger girl, as he was watching as the younger boy ran around the place after he saw the books, but nevertheless, he returned her hug. IF they were happy, he too, is really happy too. Perhaps, more happy thank they were. The two kept thanking him that he cannot possibly count how many thanks he had already received. They're happiness is really genuine, and all those worries he had before had been quickly thrown out of the windows. "I'm glad that you like it, I really am." He said, smiling brightly at them, "A lucky guess? Well, I think it's in Conan-kun's personality to like it." He added then, patting the younger boy's head as he finally took a sit after the running that he did. He watched with a smile as the girl started to open the gift that his mother sent. He wasn't wrong with what he had thought earlier. As soon as he told stories in his letter to his mother, she quickly grew interested with the twins, particularly with Ai. AS what he had said before, his mother loves cute and adorable people, and she would definitely not hesitate to dress the girl up. His sister was even worse, he wonders what will happen if he will introduce the twins to his family. "She'll be happy to hear that. Maybe one day, you'll meet her. And Conan-kun, you'd probably get some clothes from her too one of these days." He was completely sure. Yes, his mother loves making those cute a frilly dresses for young girls, but she's really good at making clothes for young boys too. He didn't bring lots of the clothes that she made though, cause he figured that she'll be sending many anytime she wants too. He had had to laugh when the girl started to stand up and jump the way that her brother did earlier. They were really something. "In some way, you two should be considered as national treasures..." He said randomly, not really realizing that he had said his thoughts out loud.
<i>
</i>

"Hai, hai. Completely innocent." the young boy said, keeping his new catlike smile on. He never really had a catlike smile before, only a few minutes ago did he make a catlike smile for the first time. Well, besides being the student detective in school, he was also one of the best in acting. And he wasn't hesitant to show it towards his sister, especially when teasing her. "Too adorable, if I may add," he said calmly looking directly at his sister. It really was amusing, his sister freaking out, not knowing what to do in a not-so-serious situation. It looked really cute on her that it was hard to resist not seeing it.

Conan caught his breath from all the running around he had made. But, that was still not enough to show his thankfulness and happiness. Sure, he had read the books in his father's library at home. But, it was still different when you have your own. Conan was brought back into the present, just in time to hear that Tsukino-senpai's mother might be making him some clothes as well. "Uh. Sure. Thanks. But, I beg you. Just make sure that it's not a dress, nor a skirt nor anything frilly and girly," he told the older boy. When the Ravenclaw had told them that they should be considered as national treasures, the curious Hufflepuff couldn't help ask. "Why do you think that?"

The catlike smiles and the statements of her companions made her extremely freaked out that she couldn't even get near them. "Where did Onii-chan (Brother) learn that smile?" she thought to herself, knowing that her brother had only smile like this for the first time. But the direct look at her caused her to freak out more and back away a few steps. "Y-y-you g-guys. Y-you're freaking me out," she said in a low voice almost a whisper.

"Well, we're glad with the presents too!" she happily told Ryuuji-niisan. When the older boy told him that it was only a lucky guess, the young girl was surprised. "Lucky guess? Then, Nii-san must be lucky, eh? Did you know? Back in Japan, some adults say that Onii-chan's intelligence is already comparable to Sherlock Holmes of his age," she narrated. It wasn't much of a difference. The young girl laugh at her brother's statement. "Really? That I would like to see," she said imagining and giggling from the thought of Conan wearing girls' clothes. The random thought had indeed confused the girl and she decided to wait for the Ravenclaw to tell him the real reason.

It was funny the way that Ai was freaking out at them. Was she really that scared? Normally, he'd be feeling bad about doing something like this, but this time around, he really can't help it. The look on her face was just too adorable to just ignore and not notice. And somehow, this brings out the somehow sadistic personality of his that would not come out that often. Really, how many side of his had she brought out already? She had already seen the clumsy Ryuuji back at the kitchen before, now, she'll meet the playful one. She really is something. "Mou... Ai-chan shouldn't be freaked out..we're not planning anything at all." He said, still that smile was on his face, his eyes now seemingly closed from all that smiling. He can't blame her though, if anyone else would be in her shoes, they'd probably freak out too. Considering the way that they are smiling right now, like they were planning to do a trick or some mischievous, though really, they're not. He just love the look on the girl's face now. "No need to worry at all Ai-chan." He added, dropping the catlike smile into a more casual one before doing that catlike smile again. He was one to quickly change his facial expressions too after all, and looking at Conan, he can assume that he too is quite used with this stuff.

"I won't be surprised if they would say that. Conan-kun is indeed, really, really intelligent." He was sure about that. That's probably another reason why he picked the books. He had already read them before, and as soon as he met Conan, he knew that he was the type of person who'll like such books. He's not stereotyping or anything, but really, the image fits Conan. "Ah.. I can't promise that Conan-kun. She might send some if she feels like it.. just humor her or something.. trust me, she sent some for me before.. luckily though, she's not sending anything like that to me now." His mother had indeed this weird quirk sometimes. When she's at work or when she's in the presence of other people, she's really professional, not so much like a yamato nadeshiko like his grandmother, but he can say that she's prim and proper. But sometimes, when something just strikes her to do it, she'll go around sending him some sort of a dress. Not really a girl's dress, but still a dress. He could still remember back when he was still younger than he was, sometimes, he'd be forced to wear some of the designs of his mother that won't possibly fit his sister. The designs met for a girl his age, he'll be forced to wear. He's quite lean after all, and really, before, he was frequently mistaken as a girl. He was slowly growing out of it now, looking more like a boy that he was supposed to be. He still can't let go of the hair though, cause really, his sister would kill him if he cut it. She would always say that his hair is much prettier than a girl's after all, and that she won't let anyone to ever touch it or cut it. And knowing his sister, he knew that it was not just a threat. When he received Ai's gift though and when he checked what it was, he was quite worried that his mother was messing up with him again, until when he read the letter along with it. "Ah..what do you mean Conan-kun?" He then asked. Had he said something again? Really, he should fix this one too.

Yamato Nadeshiko - Ideal Japanese woman

Seeing his sister freak out so much makes Conan want to keep the smile more and more. He was sure that he hasn't seen this side of him to the older boy yet. But, it was alright, after all, they are showing a side of them that they both share. A bit sadistic side. "Yeah. Why would I plan something on my little sister?" he asked looking at the eyes of his sister. The catlike smile really freaks out the little girl. He might want to remember that if he wants to tease his sister sometimes. Dropping the catlike smile into a different facial expression showing a cold attitude, the young boy told his sister, "Yeah, no need to worry," then bringing back a catlike smile. He had always shown a cold face to his sister, and the catlike smile is an addition to his collection.

"Intelligent? No way. Mitsuhiko-kun and Ai are more intelligent than me," he told the older boy. "Really Ai. Why'd you have to go and bring up the topic about me being comparable to Holmes," he said with quite a bit of puppy dog eyes. When Tsukino-senpai told him that a dress was still possible to be sent to him, the Hufflepuff looked at the Ravenclaw with worried eyes. "Oi, oi. I've never worn a dress before, and I don't have a plan to do it," he said. When the older boy asked him what he had meant, Conan looked with curious eyes. "What do you mean by what do I mean? You're the one who said out of the blue that we should be considered as national treasures," he said playfully while arms crossed.

Looking at her companions was still making the young girl freak out. Really how could they tease her like this? Especially her brother. The boy completely freaks her out when he starts teasing her, and this was one of those times. "I-I d-don't know. F-f-for fun, m-maybe?" she replied to her companions. When they both dropped the catlike smile, and returned it, she was more freaked out than ever. "I don't want it anymore! Return Onii-chan and Ryuuji-niisan! Go away!" she yelled as tears started falling from her cheeks. Really, these two boys had made her too scared already and now tears were falling. This was a problem, indeed and she started wiping off the tears.

"Says the boy who consecutively ranked first in both academics and sports since first grade," she calmly said. "Well, I just felt like it," teasing her brother with her tongue stuck out. Well, she didn't bother saying it since it was true. She knew her brother had the skills and intelligence, and she had no problem with that. She laughed when her brother told Ryuuji-niisan that he had no plans in wearing a dress. It was quite a funny thought to imagine really. Her brother wearing a dress. "Yeah, Nii-san. You said something out of the blue again," she told her senpai, her eyes filled with curiosity.

When the girl started to cry, Ryuuji knew that they had gone too far. Really? Must he tease her to the point that he'll see tears forming in her eyes? Just how bad as a brother could he be? Dropping the catlike smile, an expression of genuine worry took over the previously mischievous one. He promised before that he won't make her cry right? Yet here he was, freaking her out to the point that she had started to bawl out her tears. "Gomen, gomen Ai-chan.." He said, sounding really regretful as he bowed his head a little, his fringe casting a shadow over his eyes that his expression can only be barely seen. He shouldn't have gone that far really. He should have known when to stop. That's the reason why he barely shows this side of his, cause if he did, then sometimes he'd forget that he should control what he was doing, that there's a limit to what he can say and not. "Nii-san is really sorry." He added as he raised his head again, closing his eyes as he sorted his thoughts out. And in a matter of seconds, as he opened them again, his lips curved into a calm yet innocent smile. "Is Ai-chan angry?" He then took his handkerchief from his pockets and handed it to her. "Wipe your tears, a smile fits you more ne?"

He watched as the twins banter about being intelligent ans stuff. They really are adorable to watch. Like, they knew each other so much. "No need to be so humble Conan-kun. Be proud. Ai-chan and I are really proud of you." He meant it, he really did. Conan was indeed intelligent in his opinion. And he's not just like those persons who became intelligent because of sticking their noses in books, reading for hours to absorb the text, he could say that Conan's was that of a sharp mind, a street-smart kid probably, or one who knows how to analyze things at hand. He's smart. "I have no way to stop my mother though." It was true, cause once his mother had decided on something, she'll push through with it, and she'll use everything that is in her power to get what she wants. "Don't worry though, she's busy with her projects.. that will take her mind off of making a dress for you." He then added. From the last he heard, his mother had signed a contract and is about to launch her own fashion show. It wasn't entirely new to him though. His mother had been in the business for so long that she had held several shows already, few of those he had been involved in. "Ah.. I did?" So he had indeed said something out loud again. Well then, he'll have n choice but to explain it to the two. Next time, he'll really try hard to control the words that he says so as to not say something out of the blue. "eto.. National treasures.. I mean, it's not everyday that one will meet a person like you. Aissh... I can't explain it really well.. Gomen, but really, you're national treasured for me."

gomen - sorry

"Oi, oi!" the young boy panicked as the young girl yelled and shed out a few tears. Once again, he had gone too far. "Gomen, Okaa-san, Oto-san (Sorry, Mom, Dad). Made her cry again," he whispered as he stood up and gave his sister a tight hug. "Ne (Hey), Ai. Gomenasai (Sorry). I've gone too far. Again," he whispered in to her ear. Jeez. He doesn't want others to make her cry, but he makes her cry. How possessive can he get? He released her from his hug and the older boy had handed the girl a handkerchief. "Smile, Sis. You look beautiful when you smile than when you cry," he winked at the girl.

"I'm not humble. I'm never humble," he muttered softly. As he listened to the older boy telling him that he should be proud. The boy was quite worried that his senpai's mother would indeed send him girl's clothes. He just couldn't bring himself to wear it. "That's great, then," he said with a relieved sigh. The Hufflepuff was quite surprised that the Ravenclaw didn't even noticed that he voiced out his own thought. "Asouka (Oh, I see). Well, you're a national treasure for us to, Tsukino-senpai," he winked at the boy. "Demo (But), you should really stop voicing your thoughts so much. That could get you in trouble, you know," he told the older boy in a worried tone.

The girl was quite surprised of how her companions reacted. They sort of panicked when tears came rolling down her cheeks. But, she wasn't mad nor sad at all. She was just freaked out too much, that her heart had started beating fast and loud and that her tears just came out. But, she didn't feel any anger. "No need to apologize. I was just surprised. It's not Onii-chan or Ryuuji-niisan's fault. Shinpai shinaide (Don't worry)," she told them with a smiling face. She was alright and she wanted to make sure that her companions knew that or else they would worry over her. And that was something that she didn't want.

Thanks to her great hearing, Ai had managed to hear her brother mutter some words. "Oh really? You were always. And you still are," she said quite aloud. A smile had formed on the young girl's face when Ryuuji-niisan told them that he treats them as national treasures. "Hai (Yes)! We treat Ryuuji-niisan as a national treasure too!" she said with a happy voice. The girl was glad that her brother showed worry on the older boy. Well, it was something national for the young boy since Ai knew that Conan was very protective over his friends as well.
