The Winter Olympics begin in just two days! I figured I'd make a thread in case folks were interested in discussing any events. What events are you excited to watch? Any specific athletes to look out for?

I grew up watching a lot of the figure skating events, but I am making it a goal to watch some other sports this year like I did with the 2024 Summer Olympics. I haven't decided what yet, but I know things like Skeleton freak me out, and I don't know a ton about hockey. However, I think that's the fun in watching. I didn't know much about artistic swimming, but learned as I watched each event. I'd like to understand what exactly curling is, too... but it doesn't seem that fun to watch. Anyone have a different opinion?

I think curling and hockey starts like today before the opening ceremony because they have so many games to play or something.
But I'm excited! I love the Olympics haha. Especially the figure skating of course.
Apparently one of my co-workers actually knows someone competing in the ski half pipe or something? I forgot lol. And speaking of work, we're actually doing some work for the LA Olympics in 2028 which is neat!

Oh I should look at the schedule to make sure I don't have too much to catch up on if I decide to watch them! I watched a little bit of the women's singles qualifying for the USA team. I also follow this TikToker who focuses on women's sports and have been learning about some cool athletes in different sports.

That's really cool, Kadi! I keep seeing ads for the 2028 Olympics on Facebook. Wild to think that it's not too far away.

Yat I love the Olympics! Having not been exposed to very much snow in my life, I find most of the winter Olympics events fascinating and also the ones like the skeleton and the jumps absolutely terrifying to watch!

Thats so exciting!! :)

So, I watched the Opening Ceremony yesterday, and it was beautiful. As a music person, I particularly loved the part where they had dancers dressed as music notes and then were "composing" the music. I don't think I realized just how long the ceremony was. I think I fell asleep watching the Summer 2024 one.

I've been watching figure skating. I had really only watched singles before but decided to start with watching the team event, and why did I never know about rhythm skating???? It's so fun! And the theme was the 90s so that made it even more fun. Anyway, highly recommend.

I was watching some skiing this morning (not sure which kind - it was live so I just turned it on). They were basically skateboarding but with skis and down a very, very big hill. I couldn't quite catch on, but I might watch some more later.

I definitely watched all the Olympic Games, but I feel more for the sports where my country (Latvia) is represented.

The opening ceremony was very interesting and unusual. I can say that this opening was even better than the opening of the French Summer Olympics, which I didn't watch until the end because I fell asleep.
