This year Mania had dressed up as something a little less out there.. Last year's door outfit had been truly something but this year the Gryffindor wasn't feeling like well walking around stiff as a door. Nope this year she'd put on some glittery makeup and a fairy costume. She was also carrying some glitter in a little velvet pouch, aka fairy dust. It was very cute if she was to say so herself. Nia had managed to rescue her best friend Callie from the unfortunate fate of going to the feast with Ares, so as she arrived to the great hall she was dragging the girl with her. "I loveee Halloween, I love dressing up honestly and like I know this year the fit isn't as grande as last year but I think I look cute and that was my point. Do you want some fairy dust?" She asked her friend getting ready to blow some glitter on her, truly a great addition. Her own hair, and well half of her body too, was covered in said glitter already but what was a little more?

Considering how little effort had gone into it, Callie was quite pleased with her bat costume. She’d sewn a couple of pieces of fabric along the back of a black shirt, so that when she lifted her arms, it looked like she had wings. It did also mean she couldn’t reach upwards without her shirt coming untucked from her trousers, but that was all right. A couple of felt ears on a headband completed the look.

“You look adorable,” Callie agreed. “No-one really got the door thing, anyway. It was an inside joke.” People had looked at them like they were crazy. Well, Nia was, a bit. Seeing the glitter come out, Callie reflexively shielded her face, laughing. “No! Don’t you dare, Nia. I’m supposed to be a scary bat. I am warning you!”

Mania sighed, she was right, no-one had got their little group costume. It had been truly genius, but perhaps it had been too genius and others struggled to get the idea because it was too smart. Yeah that had to be it. Grinning Nia put down the glitter and let out an exasperated sigh. "Ugh fineeeeee, no fairy dust for you, though you look more adorable than scary." She said taking in the costume again. She looked like a cute baby bat, one of those that her own little sister Melinoë was obsessed with.

"Ok, how about weee go get some snacks and then maybe the tent thing? I really wanted to go in last year but you know I was kind of well.... Let's just say the space would have been limited and moving around out here was hard enough already..." A shiver ran through Mania's body as she remembered trying to move, turning your head slightly meant a full body rotation.

Hesitantly, Callie lowered her hands, half expecting Nia to blow the glitter in her face as soon as she did. “I do not,” she said, protesting the idea of being called adorable herself. “Unless you mean adorable like cute. I am cute. Do you think Teo is here? Or Logan? Do I look cute?” Suddenly she was self conscious that her ears might be crooked, or something. Luckily, Nia was there to distract her with ideas that didn’t concern boys. “Let’s just take a whole bowl of crisps,” she said, already heading in the direction of the snack table. “We can eat them in the tent.” She hadn’t gone in last year either - it felt kind of mean, considering Nia couldn’t join her. But they were going to have so much fun this time.

Mania felt a little deflated. They were going to the feast together but suddenly Callie seemed only interested in whether or not there were cute boys around. Now Nia was all for cute boys, but it still felt like a blow. Was her company not fun enough that Callie was already looking for someone else, considering they'd just walked in. Grinning to hide the subtle hurt and worry Nia nodded eagerly. "Oh that's an excellent idea!" She quipped pulling Callie towards the snacks before grabbing a bowl and then walking towards the tent. "Alright the first one that screams or closes their eyes is a loser." The brunette turned to her friend grinning at the challenge she'd set.

Callie stole crisps from Nia’s bowl as they walked together to the tent. “What - even if I just have to blink?” she asked. She held her eyes open with her fingers, grinning. “I’m ready! In you go. Don’t drop my crisps.”

Nia laughed at the way Callie was looking, her earlier deflated mood long forgotten. "No silly, just don't close them completely because you are afraid!" She explained shaking her head. Mania took a step into the tent scoffing at the audacity of Callie telling her not to drop her crisps. "Come on now Callie, wouldn't want to lose me and go through this tent alone!" The Gryffindor threw back over her shoulder with another grin.

“But how will you know the difference?!” said Callie, lifting the tent flaps as she followed Nia inside. “Oh my God, it’s spooky.” Her eyes were still adjusting to the dark, but she could see herself and Nia in the reflection of what looked like a shiny black coffin. “Gosh! What is that HIDEOUS creature?” she asked, pointing at Nia’s reflection with a cackle.

Mania just shook her head, of course she would know. As Callie followed her in and they saw a coffin Nia smacked her friend on the arm. "Please, I look delightful!" She objected with a laugh before eyeing up the coffin, c'mon they could do better than that with magic. She walked further in when a skeleton dropped in front of her and the second year had to hold in her scream, she wasn't losing.

Callie knew she could tease Nia like that, because she was so pretty, it was obviously just a joke. She wondered why Nia hadn’t teased her back. Maybe Callie really wasn’t very pretty.

She screamed. Oh, for god’s sake - she forgot about the game! “That’s not fair,” she said, smacking the skeleton aside. “I was thinking about something else. Next person who screams loses for real.”

Mania laughed, delighted to have won. "No no! As cute as you look Callie there was only once chance and you looosssttt!" She exclaimed turning to her friend, Callie did look awfully cute it was unfair really. "Boop." She said smiling broadly and tapping Callie's nose. "I will say the skeleton almost had me, imagine if the ghosts were wandering around here now that would be super spooky." Just the thought of a transparent person suddenly floating among the props was enough to give her the creeps.

Finley headed into the Great Hall, he was going to write an article about the Halloween party so of course he had to attend, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t enjoy it, and he was probably going to have come anyway, since it was Halloween and he liked Halloween. Who didn’t like dressing up? He’d spotted Nia and Callie earlier, but he’d been roped into talking to some of the costume entrants that he hadn’t realised how long he’d been in conversation until he turned around and almost lost Nia and Callie. He wasn’t sure most people would get the reference to his costume, but he didn’t mind, it was such an old show anyway. He liked to watch it sometimes because one of the characters in it reminded him a little of his mum when he missed her. Of course he could just go and see her, but he had to make preparations for that and for his dad to actually take him or for his mother to come and get him. He quickly found them again and headed over, noting the glitter on Mania. “Fair warning Nia, if glitter gets on this jacket we’re gonna have a serious problem. It’ll ruin the brooding aesthetic I was going for,” he said, standing a little closer to Callie than to Nia just so he didn’t accidentally brush against her. Leather clung to things, or things clung to leather, he could never tell. “So we have batman and a batgirl this year, huh?” He asked, looking at Callie.
