Professor Misha Haden had been a bit surprised to be asked to help out, he didn't often, but he didn't mind it. Though of course he was feeling a little more tired than usual with the boys keeping him awake. It was nice though, they were adorable. He looked at the two students whose duel he was overseeing. "Let's keep this clean," he said, before inviting them to get started.

OOCOut of Character:
The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels. Duelers cannot cast spells at the spectators or face disqualification.

Amory got onto the platform and did his bowing before getting comfortable and sizing up Ruth. "Now sorry to disappoint, but unlike my dear Felix I will go right ahead and start us off," He said with a grin and cast a Stupefy towards the girl. Though, perhaps he should of been a gentleman and let ladies go first but then again he was here to win.

Ruth had been disappointed to learn that she wouldn't get a break to sit out a round like everyone else seemed to. She felt like she was having to work harder than everyone and that was so not her style. At least Sybil was through to the final in the other group, she was really happy about that. Now she'd won two she was hoping she might go all the way in her group, but she had to get through Amory first. She sized him up as she blocked his first spell. She'd gathered he was a talker, a 'loving the sound of his own voice' kind, so perhaps the best way to annoy him was not to engage at all. She placidly smiled as she shot back an expelliarmus.

Amory tilted his head to the right while blocking the spell, slightly disappointed there was no chatter back. Oh well. "Shame, you don't like talking? Very well then, I mean I don't blame you it is hard to keep focus on two things at a time." He shrugged before casting a Petrificus Totalus.

Well, if he thought she was stupid, then that was working exactly as Ruth hoped it was. The fun of dueling, she was realising, was that it was all a big performance. She carefully put up a shield, and practically pantomimed a confused look as she pondered a spell, before tossing back an Everte Statum.

Well this was turning out to be a boring duel, however there was a sense of comedy on how the girl refused to speak and clearly made a show out of it. Perhaps they both were just in their own ways. Amory blocked the spell and paced around the platform, "It is kind of funny that two years ago I was living my life magic free and now here I am shooting spells at my classmates? Who would have thought right?" He shrugged before stopping and deciding on a spell. "Stupefy!" If someone had told him he'd be here two years ago, Amory might have snorted out a laugh or two and called the cops or something but here he was.

Ruth raised an eyebrow. Wow, she thought. She wasn't wrong, he really did love the sound of his own voice. He'd probably keep talking no matter what, and she was weighing up what was the best way to irritate him into slipping up. It seemed like not replying would work, it was the annoying little sister way to go. Though she could always try copying him. She blocked the spell with an exaggerated yawn and threw back a Stupefy of her own. Kind of boring, but if people weren't going to actually be thrown off by spells to trip them up then that just ruined the fun of it.

Amory smiled delighted when Ruth went to send the same spell, how cute. "Oh aren't you just adorable!" He said after blocking the spell, very cute. "I fear you'll have to do more than be cute to throw me off though, who knows maybe saying hi will win you the duel?" It wouldn't but you know semantics. He sent a Rictusempra her way next, she could use some humour.

Ruth tilted her head, a bit confused by what Amory was going on about. She only barely managed to block the spell in time, but hoped that her hunching over and the spell kind of fizzling out against her barrier as opposed to bouncing off very noticeably made it look like it hit. Because she did start laughing. A lot.

"Hahaha! Ewwwwwhuhuu. You're soooohoho weird." She giggled, pointing at him with her wand. If ignoring him didn't work as well as she wanted, she'd just give him a reaction - probably not the one he wanted, however. "That's so creepy, hee hee. Depulso Amory's wand." She'd seen people try and summon wands over, but Ruth's thinking was trying to send it flying backwards would probably be more uncomfortable to hold on to, throwing the caster's arm backwards instead of pulling it forwards.

Amory stared at the girl not sure whether or not she managed to block his spell, by the laughter she might not have but Amory wasn't fully convinced. Though he did finally get a reaction, shrugging he raised a shield as soon as he saw her wand raise up and blocked the spell. Calling him creepy was well not what he was going for but not much he could do if that was how the girl wanted to view this situation. "Nice try, better luck next time!" The Slytherin grinned before sending the full body binding curse her way.

Amory's next choice of spell was not doing him any favours in terms of not being called creepy, Ruth thought, still giggling a little bit as she twirled to step aside from the spell. She knew she could rely on her footwork a little more than her casts at that second. "Do you wanna know what you sound like right now?" she teased, deciding to double down on giving him a bad reaction instead of no reaction. It was all part of the duel, after all. She sent him a slug-vomiting curse to punctuate her question.

Cyrus hadn't signed up for duels, but he was in the audience for his sister. Ruth had done incredibly well so far and he was pretty proud of her, she had won quite a few duels. As this one started, he was on the edge of his seat. He nodded in approval as Ruth ignored the boy's chatter and taunts and focused on the spells. But grimaced as he thought she was hit by the laughing spell. It didn't seem to be the case, but as the duel continued he silently urged her to stop playing games and focus on the spells. "C'mon Ruth." He muttered under his breath.

Amory's eyes sparked with delight at the question. "Oh Pleaaase do tell! I am on the edge of my seat, dying to know what I sound like." He said while blocking the nasty curse, he even moved towards the edge of the platform to drive home the line of being on the edge of his seat, though he was standing but you know. Besides he'd not be throwing up anything today, nope no thank you sir or ma'am in this case he supposed, miss? What was the proper way to address your peers? Whatever it was he didn't care too much as he sent a knee-reversing hex right back.

Oh, thought Ruth. He didn't get the joke. Never mind, now she'd just leave it as an annoyingly unanswered question until the duel was over and she'd politely shake hands and drop the persona she was working on. Though he was still a bit weird if this was him normally. And greasy. Honestly, boys in their year were gross. She returned to giving an annoyingly benevolent smile, blocked the hex, and fired back a rapid Stupefy, returning to a safe spot in the middle of the platform, chuckling lightly to herself.

Amory had definitely been paying attention and was blocking spells as he should until he got a little distracted by the idea of having a wooden stick in his hand that shot magic out of it so after blocking one last spell he took another step to the side and fell off the stage losing his wand and losing the duel. Oops.
