Serenity was a little disappointed that the Yule Ball Auction didn't going as she and all involved had hoped it would. Although she wasn't going to let that ruin her night, she had got dressed up just like everyone else and had a plan B up her sleeve. As the Yule Ball got underway she mingled with her friends and enjoyed the start of the night, everyone looked beautiful. She couldn't help notice that there was that noticeable divide of boys and girls without dates and it was probably the usual case of boys too nervous to ask and girls wishing a boy would ask. She had talked it over with the people involved and figured that even though the entire date auction fell through they could try out a mini Auction out on the night.

She made her way up to the stage when one song ended and took the microphone. "Hello everyone. My name's Serenity, I'm President of Heta Omega." she said confidently, continuing once she knew she had people's attention. "As some of you may or may not know Heta Omega and the Brotherhood had come up with the idea of doing a date auction for tonight but unfortunately it fell through." she explained, knowing not everyone was part of either club so they may not have known about it. "Well we decided that tonight we would have a mini auction for one dance, and anything after that is up to yourself. So anyone who signed up for the auction originally and still wants to do this come on up to the stage and let me know. Even if you didn't sign up and want to give this a go, then please let yourself be known."

She smiled as she set down the mic and let the music continue as she got the names of people that had come to sign up. After another few songs the mini auction was ready to go and she brought the first person up on stage. "Ok, first of all we have the lovely Prudence Armstead. Fourth Year Gryffindor and Social Chair of the Heta Omega. Prudence is a bundle of fun and loves dancing so who will be the lucky guy to dance with her tonight. We'll start at 5 Galleons!" she started the bidding right away, hoping to get through everyone who signed up as soon as possible so they could all have their dance.

OOCOut of Character:
Ok so our original idea of a date auction fell through due to timing/number issues. So this is open to anyone who wants to give their character up, even if you aren't part of either club (although if your character isn’t part of Heta Omega or Brotherhood please do sign up :r ). Just PM me that you're interested and we’ll try to do as many as possible. This is just an opening post to make people aware of it and feel free to post reactions etc but the main Auction will continue in 'Alternate Roleplay' section ( here ) to let the whole thing run and test run to see if this is a feasible idea for future events. Enjoy!

Orwell had left Archie and the other boy to dance, happy to leave them be as much as he loved his best friend he knew that they could spend a little time apart and he held no ill feelings about being left when the other boy had arrived, in fact Orwell had welcomed it. They'd be spending most of this coming holiday together and Orwell was looking forward to every moment but it was as he had turned to leave, that someone putting down the music and beginning to speak that it caught his attention. Still in the suit which Archie had helped him pick out he wandered closer to the stage as she girl, Serenity began explaining that the brotherhood and the Heta Omega were doing an auction, a date auction, which he thought of as the most ridiculous thing ever and something he was glad had fallen through but as she continued he realised that it hadn't so much as no happened just fallen through slightly. He walked further towards the stage pushing through the crowd as the first girl was brought on stage, he couldn't quite believe what was happening, was this a normal part of the Yuleball, were people often sold as dates or for one dance?

Did the club really need money or to have people bid purely on the looks of a person for a single dance, it just continue to push this idea of people needing to be beautiful in order to make money, to be accepted, and what of the person who made the least amount of money, pitying people unjustly against one another when they could just all go out to the dance floor and dance with whomever they wanted for free, if the Heta Omega and the Brotherhood were so desperate for money surely they should just ask for donations, or do like the wild patch and make flower crowns which were given to people who wanted them, and donations for it were welcomed but not necessary, "The commodification of people for any purpose is wrong," he yelled out in the silence as bidding was asked to start, "How can you allow your comrades in the heta omega and the brotherhood to be put up for sale for one dance, thereby forcing all of us to make a direct evaluation about their worth based solely upon how they look," he continued, "Capitalism makes everything into a commodity, maybe this school and your clubs could avoid making the dance of the students into a commodity as well. They are people, not things or products," Orwell finished still stood right in front of the stage looking up at the girl, Serenity and Prue, wondering what would happen next, and ultimately not surprised if he once again got dragged away by some professor,

"We are students, not products!" he called out, repeating his last line, he did not like this, and he wasn't about to back down without being forced to.
