The annual Yule Ball was one of Professor Kalif Styx's least favorite events, but as headmaster, he was forced to get it decorated, delegate responsibilities, and ready for the students to enjoy. The decor was winter, even if the season outside was summer. Snow appeared to float from the sky before disappearing just six feet above the floor. The floor itself had an inch of magical, non-slippery snow to make it appear like a winter wonderland. Large Christmas trees surrounded the walls, nondecorated this time. He heard that there was an ice rink here last year, but he opted to have that enjoyed every other year. Other professors were encouraged to come and celebrate, or in other words - chaperone.
Of course, there was a large dance floor, small tables around the edge for those that wanted to sit, chat, and eat the snacks that lined up near the staff table. None of the snacks or drinks were anything Styx himself would partake in, but alas. He had his tea and he was fine with it. He sipped from his goblet as he waved his wand to change the candles to large, lit icicles. Temporary just for the ball, but it gave the impression of a true winter that one might experience if they head to Hogwarts Scotland.
Even though the attire was supposed to be dressy, Styx wore his typical black robes. He stood in front of the podium and tapped the edge of the podium once enough students entered the Great Hall. "Welcome to another year to the Yule Ball, an annual tradition here at Hogwarts New Zealand. The dance ends strictly at midnight, so you'll have until 12:30am to get to your dorms before you break the curfew." Styx stepped out from behind the podium and crossed the Great Hall through the crowd. He knew better than to linger around, as his presence might suck the fun out. And the students needed one day to release some steam before they head home for the holidays.
