Professor Styx led the two contestants to the stage, appointing them into the north or south part of the stage. He informed them of the rules, the points, and made sure they were aware of what not to do. He instructed, "Begin."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun! Be creative!

Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels. Duelers cannot cast spells at the spectators or face disqualification.

Ignatius was plainly very nervous. But of course he'd be good at dueling. He had proven he was a very good seeker, so he would prove that his talents as a wizard extended to dueling as well, surely. He bowed to Ivy as directed and then shot forward a shaky Expelliarmus.

When ivy had seen the dueling lists was not sure who she was facing. She knew Ignatious by name and face and that he played for the Slytherin quidditch team. but she didn't know much more about him. she got to the chamber and took her place on the stage. a little nervous as Professor styx was invigulating. and the transfiguration professor was renowned for being tough.
She bowed at her opponent and the professor and raised her wand, and she had this. the boy cast first. She put up a shield and realised that she probably needn't have done it as the spell went wide anyway. she raised her wand again and cast the Jelly legs Jinx at him.

Ignatius was sweating, already finding it hard to maintain a strong grip on his wand. He swallowed, thinking about how proud his parents would be if he won, and...stumbled to dodge the spell that was shot at him. He did manage to dodge it, but he already looked frazzled and messy. "Petrificus Totalus!" he shot back, as he got himself upright again.

Ivy was enjoying herself. maybe it was the redhead in her, or maybe it was that her red hair was a trait she shared with both her mum and sister both of whom also enjoyed duelling. either way watched the boy dodge her spell and look like he was about to drop his wand. she almost felt sorry for him. but she was not going to give up and let him win because she felt bad for him. no, she had a legacy to uphold. she raised her wand ready ot cast a shield to block his next move with a "protago" she then waved her wand again picking the first spell to come to mind "Accio Wand" she said not the smartest choice of spell, but not the worst either. at least she hadn't tried to clean him or turn the button on his pants into a beetle

No, thought Ignatius, he wasn't about to lose this easily. He managed to get another shield charm up just in time, and gripped his wand in both hands. "Hey, you can't steal my wand, that's rude," he said, stiffly. He wasn't exactly the quickest thinker, though, so it took him a moment to pick a spell...and eventually just settled for an Expelliarmus, which was definitely not hypocritical in any way.

Ivy saw that the boy managed to block her spell. but she could tell that he was getting more and more shaken. holding on to his wand with two hands. "All's fair in love and duels. well maybe just duels." she said. she waited for his next spell as he took his time with it and managed to step out of the way. rising one eyebrow at him as it sailed bast her. "and you stealing my wand is not rude, interesting. Rictusempra" she said throwing the laughing spell at him.

Ignatius was haughty, if he were a smarter (or perhaps more obnoxious) boy he would have argued the difference between summoning and disarming charms. Alas, he was too preoccupied to argue. He also was quite unsure what the spell being thrown at him was and was far too slow to block or dodge it, being hit right in the chest. For a moment, nothing happened...and then...

"Ha!" A fit of giggles, quite unlike what anyone had likely seen from him before, overtook him and had his face and stomach aching. He attempted to aim his wand and get out another spell, anything to save face, but each time he opened his mouth painful laughing came out instead. He dropped his wand from a sweaty, shaky palm, grabbing at his stomach in pain. The laughter simply wouldn't stop, and his eyes watered with the exertion. Oh, his mother would hear about this.

Ivy had never actually cast the laughing spell on a person before. and it was interesting to see the effects. they were actually a lot stronger than she had expected. she couldn't help but chuckle at the effects, she watched as ignatius tried a couple of times to cast a spell on her but become unsuccessful. and when it became clear that he was unable to get anything more coherant than giggles out of his mouth her own laughter increased, she had won her very first duel. and she had enjoyed it. She wished her sister was at the school so she could tell her. maybe she should write to her, maybe she should wait until the next round and see from there.
When she was sure she was in no danger of incoming spells her attention turned to professor styx as she waited for the cue that the duel was over so she could lift the spell. she also wondered if the laughter was contagious enough to make even him laugh, or even make him crack a smile.

Styx had low expectations of second years due to their limited knowledge, but both seemed to do well until the laughter spell. He pulled out his wand and undid the spell to stop the boy from laughing, and announced Ivy Cullen as the winner.
