Professor Styx led the two contestants to the stage, appointing them into the north or south part of the stage. He informed them of the rules, the points, and made sure they were aware of what not to do. He instructed, "Begin."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun! Be creative!

Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels. Duelers cannot cast spells at the spectators or face disqualification.

Todd wasn't entirely sure why he had entered the duelling tournament as he'd always been more of a Charms man than hand to hand combat. That being said, the duelling tournament hadn't run last year, and if it didn't run next year then this might have been his last opportunity to play before graduation. "Hi" Todd greeted his roommate that he didn't know as well as he should for someone he saw regularly. He took out his wand and cast the Cheering Charm first.

"Hey, good luck," Rory greeted his roommate before bowing to him and taking his position on the platform holding his wand in front of him. When Todd cast a cheering charm Rory blocked it with a shielding charm and pointed his wand at the other boy. "Rictusempra,"

Todd smiled back at Rory, "Thanks, Rory! Let's see what you've got." He quickly recovered from the blocked Cheering Charm and readied himself for Rory's counter. Seeing Rory’s wand aimed at him, Todd cast, "Protego," just in time to block the spell and immediately countered with, "Confundo!" aiming to confuse Rory.

Rory was just about able to cast a shielding charm of his own to block Todd's spell before pointing his wand back at his roommate to cast one of his own. "Langlock,"

Todd was getting into the duel, he thew back a blocking spell and countered with, "Aguamenti!" He hoped to to drench his opponent and either knock him off his feet, or make him uncomfortable enough to easily disarm nexr.

Rory threw up a shielding charm which the water from Todd's spell bounced off and moved around, it would be have been pretty uncomfortable if it had hit him but luckily he was quick enough. He turned his wand back on his opponent and cast a Bat-bogey hex.

Undeterred, Todd fired in quick succession, once the shield, then he spun 360 degrees as if this was a dance and cast "Stupefy" .

Rory had been hopeful his spell would hit but Todd effortlessly blocked it and fired back a stunning charm. Rory got up his shielding charm just in time and quickly shot a silencing charm at him.

Todd did not manage to get his shield up in time, bending his body to narrowly avoid being hit by the silencing charm. He had not yet learnt to cast without saying the spell. Next up he sent "Obscuro" It was a tricky one to get right but he thought his cast was passable.

It was annoying to see Todd dodge his spell, a dodge felt so much worse than blocking it for some reason. Rory cast a shield charm to block his next one and as it was beginning to fade he fired back a stinging hex at him.

On the other hand, dodging a spell always felt like a small victory, a free pass if you like. As Rory's shield began to wane, Todd saw the stinging hex coming his way. Quickly, he pointed his wand and cast "Protego!" just in time to deflect the hex. The adrenaline pumped through him as he prepared his next spell, "Everte Statum"

That wasn't a spell he was expecting, but luckily he was quick enough to cast a shielding charm and point his wand back at Todd. "Confundo,"

As the timer for the duel neared it's end, Todd was certain of two things: That he'd given it his all, and that Rory was an evenly matched opponent. He wondered if this made them friends now or if they'd continue as they were. Probably the latter but Todd could hope for something more. He blocked the spell and sent his attack, the babbling curse.
