@Flynn North vs. @Ares Kuya-Tine

Lena was surprised she had agreed to proctor the dueling tournament again, but it seemed like a good way to get involved before the baby came. She stood against the edge of the platform rather than taking a step up and looked at the two students. "Make sure to bow and follow all the rules. No spells above your year, please. Begin!"

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

If there was one thing Ares really wanted to do, it was to make Jordie proud. He entered the dueling tournament determined to do just that, even though he had no idea what he was signing himself up for. The teen bowed towards his opponent before quickly sending a stinging hex their way.

Flynn was pretty sure he had never dueled Ares before, but it was not like he was worried about it. He was going for his fourth championship, so he doubted he was going to have much trouble. Almost lazily twiddling his wand, he glanced at the Professor for a moment before his gaze returned to his opponent. He only bowed forward a small amount before raising his wand. He was a little annoyed he didn't manage to get off the first spell, but he still wasn't worried about it, throwing up a protego to protect himself before firing back with his favourite slug vomiting curse.

Ares could tell that the Gryffindor was confident, and Ares also wanted to show this. He easily blocked the spell that came his way, thinking of how proud he was going to make Jordie if he won as he sent another spell. "Rictusempra." he said, flicking his wand towards the teen.

Jordie had rearranged his entire routine for this. There was no way he was missing Ares' duel. The odds weren't in his boyfriends favor, but Jordie had faith in him. Flynn was strong, but so was Ares. He stood in the crowd, smiling brightly as the duel progressed. "Go, Ares!" He cheered, beaming. Jordie wasn't one for dueling- not since Indira had lit his hair on fire- but he was supportive of Ares none-the-less.

It was a little annoying his first spell didn't hit, but he supposed he would have been a little annoyed if it was too easy. He did enjoy a bit of a challenge. Once again he threw up a shield charm to protect himself, only thinking for a moment before deiding on his next spell as he turned his wand back on the Slytherin, "Obscuro!"

As Ares heard a familiar voice in the crowd, his face turned a shade of pink. It was Jordie cheering him on, and it made him more determined than ever. He blocked the spell that came his way and quickly sent another spell. "Diffindo."

He liked to think that all the extra practice he had been putting in was paying off. At least, his reaction times were much better, quickly throwing up a shield to protect himself once again. While he supposed he might have sacrificed some of his clothing if he had been hit, he would rather not risk getting cut himself. Instead, he dropped the shield again and turned his wand back on Ares, "Confundo!"

Ares thought that so far he was doing quite well, and he was confident that he could win this if he just stayed on top of it. He blocked the Gryffindor's spell, and then was quick to send the jelly-fingers curse back.

Flynn was starting to get a little annoyed that none of his spells were doing anything, but he certainly wasn't going to relax. He still was going to win this duel and prove that he was the best dueller in the year once again. Once more he put up a shield, the spell harmlessly bouncing off it before his wand turned back on his opponent and casting a quick bat-bogey hex.

Ares sighed a little as the Gryffindor easily blocked his spell. He wanted the duel to be over already, but he didn't want to back down without a fight. He blocked his spell before sending the jelly-legs jinx his way.

"Getting tired?" He did have to egg the other boy in just a little, tightening his grip on his wand. Admittedly, he was starting to feel the effects of all the spellcasting himself, but he wasn't going to let that show. Instead, he raised his wand to block the next spell sent his way before deciding on an easier first-year spell in the hopes it might help save some energy. "Petrificus Totalus!"

Ares didn't appreciate the Gryffindor talking to him. "What? No." he said, trying his best to shrug it off. They weren't here to have a conversation and so Ares quickly blocked the boy's spell before sending another. "Expelliarmus!"

Flynn really couldn't help the grin that spread across his lips at his response. It was clear that Ares was not in the mood for conversation, which was exactly why Flynn was going to annoy him with some. "What, you sure?" He teased, deciding to quickly dodge out of the way of the next spell just because it was easier. It would hopefully also save some of his energy from firing too many spells. "It's okay to be tired," he continued, trying very hard not to laugh, "Silencio!"

Ares balled his hands into fists as the Gryffindor was clearly teasing him. He glanced at the professor, wondering if she'd bother to say anything to him. She didn't seem phased by it though and this annoyed Ares even more. He watched as Flynn dodged the spell and smirked. "Says you, you literally couldn't even block my spell." he teased back. He then put up a shield to protect himself from the silencing charm. "No, how about you shut your mouth. Silencio!" he said, hoping to finally get the boy this time.

Flynn just tutted, not in the least bit bothered, "Aw, is the tiredness making you cranky?" Making jabs at people was half the fun if duelling as far as he was concerned, and maybe if he annoyed Ares enough he would slip up and make a mistake. Using another shield charm this time, Flynn rolled his eyes. "It's called tactics. Less energy to dodge than block, no wonder you're tired." But this was still a duel and he couldn't just stand there being a smartass, so quickly flicked his wand and sent another stunning spell across the platform.

Ares knew the game the boy was trying to play, and so he just ignored his first comment. He blocked the boy's spell. "No, it's just called being weak" he taunted, refusing to believe this boy was any better than himself. He then sent a trip jinx his way, figuring it would be funny to watch him fall over his own feet.

"Remind me, how many times have you won this tournament again?" Zero, as far as Flynn was aware. And it was going to remain that way. Duelling was a game of tactics, it was more than just hurling strong spells at your opponent and hoping one of them hit. It was why he loved doing this so much. And one tactic was knowing when to take a hit. Flynn saw his opening and he was going to take it. He made very few attempts to get out of the way of the next spell, letting it hit as he stumbled forward. Tripping over absolutely nothing as he fell forward to one knee, catching himself with a hand before he managed to face-plant. And that was where he stayed for a moment, keeping his head down and only looking up through his fringe enough to quietly and very subtly aim his wand at the other boy. He waited just a moment, just long enough to make it look as though he had hurt himself before sending a quick Stupefy back across the platform from his knees, trying to make sure the Slytherin had as very little time as possible to react to it.

Ares couldn't believe how full of himself his opponent was. He hoped his next one wasn't going to be so bigoted. "Well, this is my first year in the tournament, so of course I haven't won anything yet." Ares told him matter-of-factly, trying to make him feel stupid. He watched as the Gryffindor purposely stood in front of Ares's spell. He chuckled a little as he fell, but knew that wouldn't deter him from casting another spell, and so Ares was prepared. He held his wand up in front of him, blocking the boy's spell just in time before it collided with him. He took a sigh of relief, amazed that he managed to block it so well. He then cast another spell back. "Everte Statum."
