Y38 Duelling Match #19

[Katherine Alicastell]

Leading the competitors of the second round to the duelling platform, Katherine gestured for each of them to take up a position at either end, while she herself stepped up to a podium overlooking them. With a tap of her wand in the air, the headmistress pointed the tip at her throat, speaking out in a magically-amplified voice. "Welcome back, competitors, to the second round of duelling. Wands at the ready, and prepare yourselves for the duel ahead." Katherine called, giving the students an opportunity to take on a comfortable stance. "Now, bow and commence."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Flynn was more than pleased to make it through the first round, even if he had only managed it by the skin of his teeth. And he did not want to see another slug for a very long time. But with the last duel behind him, he could focus on what came next, grinning across the platform at Brooke. "Good luck, you're going to need it," he teased lightly as he bowed before quickly trying to get the upper hand, "Expelliarmus!" If he could get a quick disarm before she was prepared, then that would be great. Though, he did doubt it somewhat.

Brooke was beyond pleased to have beaten Ivy. She'd already done better than she had last year, and she was determined to keep it that way. She was aware that Flynn had beaten out Tilly is a pretty grotesque show of spells, but she wasn't cowed by it in the slightest. She was sure she had more finesse than them both, though Tilly was a good duelist. "We'll see," she said simply, smiling at Flynn's boasting as they bowed before throwing up a shield charm. "Incendio!" she said, aiming for Flynn's sleeve.

Oh, so that was how she wanted to go about things. Jumping out of the way of the flame before he was set on fire, Flynn narrowed his eyes as he turned his wand on the girl once again, casting a nice Slug Vomiting Curse, before one could be cast on him.

Brooke wrinkled her nose when Flynn sent back a slug-vomiting curse, throwing up a shield charm as quickly as she could. There was no way she was risking getting hit by that and end up like Flynn and Tilly has in their last duel. Once she was certain no slug-related effects had made it through, she sent back a trip jinx in return.

It was annoying that she didn't seem to want to throw up slugs (not that anyone would want that to happen he was sure). Her next spell did catch him a little off guard as he suddenly tripped forward, trying to windmill his arms to stop himself from falling over face-first. He managed to catch himself with one hand to avoid ending up sprawled out on the floor but realized he was now in a vulnerable position. And he couldn't have that, quickly turning his wand back on Brooke from his lowered position as he sent a Jelly Fingers Curse at her to try and cover himself so he could get back to his feet.

Brooke couldn't help the grin when her jinx hit and Flynn hit the floor. She'd been feeling pretty proud of herself until Flynn returned fire. Too busy gloating, Brooke hadn't pulled up a shield char in time, the jinx hitting her square on before she could step aside to dodge it. Brooke scrambled to keep ahold of her wand, but it was pointless, her fingers felt foreign and useless and Brooke watched in dismay as her wand tumbled from her hand to the stage.

Katherine called the duel once it became clear that Brooke could no longer hold her wand. "Mr North is the victor of this round." She announced. She stepped off the podium to attend to the Slytherin's hand.
