Y36 Duelling Match #9

It was the first round of the year's duelling tournament, and Katherine lead the first batch of competitors to the raised platform in the centre of the chamber. Gesturing for the two to take their positions opposite each other, the headmistress stepped away, and took her own place at a podium to spectate from. "Competitors, welcome. In a moment, you will begin your first round of duelling. The victor will continue on to additional rounds, and further their chances of winning the title of Champion. Wands out, and prepare yourselves." Katherine spoke with a voice amplified by magic, and allowed the two time to ready their stances. "Bow and commence."​

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Unlike quidditch, Duelling was a free for all, no spots to take only things to be won. He bowed to the girl, and wasn't slow as he quickly cast, the babbling curse. Throwing all his frustration into the spell. It wouldn't matter if he won but he could certainly vent into this fight.

Although she had signed up for the SDA eagerly as part of her youthful initiative to join every club that Hogwarts had to offer, Nell had quickly discovered that duelling just wasn't for her. After that first terrifying tournament she hadn't signed up again, content to sit in club meetings to write about them for HM, and watch the tournament from the sidelines. This year felt different, though. Nell was older, stronger. Maybe now she stood a chance. She readied herself and blocked Aonghas's first spell, firing a conjunctivitis curse back at him.

Aonghas was quick to throw up a shield against her spell, and moved to cast back quickly, not wanting to hesitate at all and just putting all of his strength as he cast, "Diffindo,"

Nell didn't let her guard down, heart thumping with nerves as she dodged out of the way of Aonghas's spell, quickly firing back. "Rictusempra!"

Aonghas cast a shield almost a moment too late, largely because he'd been rather proud of himself for managing to cause the girl to dodge - though it really meant nothing. He then followed it with a quick Leek jinx

Nell felt how unfit she was, huffing slightly for breath just from the exertion of being here. She shielded Aonghas's spell quickly, wand trembling slightly in her hand as she retaliated. "Silencio!"

Aonghas blocked the spell, it was an odd cchoice, but he fugured they couldn't do non-verbal magic yet, so that would make some spells difficult. He threw back a trip jinx, knowing it was a basic spell, but in his mind a good one.

Nell braced to shield again, wand gripped firmly in her hand, but her reflexes weren't quite fast enough. Aonghas's spell had already hit before her spell was complete, and she tripped, yelping as she tumbled down hard and the wand fell from her hand, rolling across the platform towards Aonghas. Sitting up, it was hard to keep the disappointment off her face. Nell had hoped she would do better at duelling this time around, but at least she had held her own for a little while.

Aonghas couldn't help the momentary celebration as the girl tripped and the wand left her hand, rolling over to him. He looked to the professor but could imagine that was it over. So he took the wand and went over to Nell, "Here," he crouched down as he held it out to her, "Ye alright?" he asked
