It was the final round and Kennedy was eager to see the results. She led the two girls onto the platform and instructed them to take opposite ends of the stage. Although she was sure they already knew the rules, she explained it to them once more, as well as the points system out of formality. Then she walked off the stage and let them begin.

Make sure that you use the spell list for guidance. No board rule breaking is acceptable. Have fun! I have a copy of the code that you should use with every post. Remember, when you are knocked out, unable to shoot anymore spells, you lost. And if you run out of points, you lose.

Merrill could hardly believe that she had made it to the final round of the tournament. She had never dueled before this year, but now she thought it might be one of her favourite hobbies. She listened as Professor Kennedy explained the rules once again. When it was time she bowed to her opponent, and then sprung up to cast her first spell. "Stupefy!" she called out sending a stunning spell towards Rose.

Rose had surprised herself with how well she'd done in the dueling tournament. Magical combat had never particularly been her "thing", so she chalked it up to beginners luck as the explanation for her reaching the final round. The Ravenclaw greeted her opponent with a friendly smile, and bowed as they prepared to duel. "Protego!" She called out quickly, conjuring up a transparent barrier as she was too slow to attack first, deflecting the Gryffindor's incoming stun away. Taking aim of the other girl, she fired off a Babbling Curse in retaliation.

Merrill smiled as the duel got underway. Even if there was no chance of real danger it was still invigorating to be battling someone. Merrill quickly threw up a shield spell to block the girls curse, and then fired back her own. "Silencio!" Even if Rose was a Ravenclaw prefect Merrill doubted she was able to cast silently yet.

Rose just managed to defend herself from the silencing charm with another hasty shield, exhaling a short sigh of relief. That one would've been difficult to overcome, if she even could have. Waving her wand back to Merrill, she casted a Bat-Bogey Hex, one of the more hilarious spells they'd learned.

Merrill was a little annoyed when Rose managed to get her shield going in time, but didn't let it bug her for too long. She managed to avoid the girls hex with another shield, and fired another spell seconds later. "Densaugeo!" she cast deciding to keep going with the theme of stopping Rose from being able to speak. Neither girl was giving the other a second of breathing time.

Rose frowned, disappointed by the clear lack of bat-bogies attacking Merrill and ensuring her victory. Well, it had been worth a shot. The Ravenclaw prefect threw up another magical barrier, deflecting the teeth-enlargening spell away, and as the shield shimmered back out of existence, she fired back. "Confundo!"

Merrill was starting to feel her breathing get heavy as the duel continued on. Rose was definitely her hardest opponent yet. She didn't have time to get a shield but, but Merrill managed to dodge the attack just in time. With a growl in her voice she cast the next spell. "Obscuro!"

Merrills dodge gave Rose all the time she needed to prepare her defence, and as the obscuring charm came toward her, she deflected it with another shield. So, the Gryffindor had decided to move on to attacking another sense. Two could play at that game. Raising her wand, Rose sent a conjunctivitis curse at the other girl, trying to impair her vision just as she had.

Merrill huffed as Rose managed to avoid her spell. Thankfully she was able to get her shield up as well avoiding the counter attack. As it faded away Merrill cast a disarming spell against Rose.

It seemed that her opponent was getting frustrated, and Rose couldnt tell if this was in her favour or not. Would she be sloppier, or would she really start to give it her all? She didn't know. A shout from a spectator in the chamber distracted Rose as the disarming charm was called out, and too late, the Ravenclaw raised her wand to cast another shield charm, only for her wand to be forcibly pulled from her grip by the spell and sent flying across the platform.
