The final round of duels was underway. Jon lead the pair of third years onto the platform, before assigning them different ends they would duel from and explaining the rules. He was sure they already knew the rules well, but wanted to repeat them anyway just in case. After that he stepped away from the platform and allowed the duel to begin. ​

Stella was rather surprised to see how far she had come in the dueling tournament, and chalked it up to beginner's luck. Still, she was eager and ready for the final round. Stella bowed at her opponent and held up her wand, firing out a Stunning Spell.

If only Gideons siblings could see him now, blundering his way through the dueling tournament and somehow making it to the final round of duels. It felt like a fluke, but he wasn't going to argue it. Bowing to his opponent, the Gryffindor straightened up, and managed to shield himself from the girl's stunning spell in time. He pointed his wand back toward her, but before he could utter a spell, his eyes shifting to something behind her left side. "Woah! Is that Professor Styx in a pink dress?" He shouted in surprise at the blank space behind her, hoping to divert her attention while he fired back with his first spell. "Jokes. Expelliarmus."

Stella hadn't paid much attention to any of the other duels, especially within in her own year which probably wasn't smart since it would've helped her determine each opponent's dueling styles. So she was caught a bit off guard when the boy across from her said Professor Styx was in a pink dress. The blonde turned her head, distracted for a moment, not because of what he said exactly, but simply that he'd said somethigng unexpected at all. Stella quickly turned back as she heard him firing off a Disarming spell and didn't have time to cast her shield, so she simply ducked out of the way. She huffed out a small laugh and straightened up again and didn't waste time in firing back, "Incendio!"

Gideon could barely contain his chuckles as the Slytherin turned around. He wasn't even disappointed she'd still managed to dodge out of the way in time, too amused by the fact she'd fallen for one of the oldest tricks in the book. If he'd been more composed, he might have had time to dodge or defend himself from Stella's incendio. As it was, his cloak caught fire before he knew it, and the boy raced to tear the dark fabric away from his shirt, tugging frantically at the strings near his neck to remove it. The cloak fell into a smoking heap at his feet, and the boy stomped on it aggressively to ensure the fire was put out, before taking a deep breath and returning his attention to the duel. These classmates throwing fire spells at him were crazy. Gideon waved his wand, wasting no time in sending out a jelly fingers curse as quickly as he could, to make up for the lost time dealing with his flaming cloak.

Stella didn't mean to laugh when Gideon caught fire, because in reality it was pretty dangerous, but his movements were too funny to hold back her giggles as he struggled out of his cloak and stamp out the flame. She was almost too amused to block his oncoming spell but managed to yell, "Protego!" just in time before the spell hit her. Inspired by his spell, Stella decided to try and fire off the Jelly Brain Jinx.

"Protego!" Gideon uttered, shielding himself from the jelly-brain spell. The smell of his smoking robe was invading his nose, and it was difficult not to cough, so the Gryffindor swept it aside with his foot to avoid choking out his next spell and completely messing the pronunciation up. "Rictusempra!" He shouted after a moment, wand pointed at Stella. It was becoming something of a signature move for him now, though so far he'd not been successful in actually hitting a student with it.

Stella was still laughing at the aftermath of her spell but luckily she wasn't laughing because of the spell Gideon fired. She had managed to throw her shield up just in time and then cast the Fur growing spell since it was the first thing that popped into her head.

Gideon had been prepared to defend from another spell, but as Stella incanted the fur growing charm, the Gryffindor wavered. It was a spell he'd tried in a duel previously, and as it turned out, having fur didn't inhibit a persons ability to cast spells, so he wondered if he needed to expend the energy creating another shield. The spell hit the boy before he'd come to either decision, and he watched in surprise as his skin disappeared beneath strands of thick, blonde fur. He took a moment to stroke his hairy face, wondering if this was what facial hair felt like, and broke out into a grin. Two could play at that game. Waving his wand, Giddy casted an antler jinx.

Although Stella's spell hadn't exactly been defensive for dueling, she wasn't expecting her opponent to allow it to hit him so freely and her jaw dropped as she saw the effects of the spell. She laughed again at the odd sight of the boy covered in blonde fur. "You look like a labrador," she said through her giggles, not ready for his oncoming spell from laughing so much, so she had to dodge again. From her ducked position she cast out, "Expelliarmus," though she didn't know how accurate her aim was from here.

The Labrador comment had Gideon chuckling, and a little disappointed that there wasn't a convenient mirror nearby to see for himself. Judging by his furred arms, he could only imagine what his face looked like. It was an odd feeling, having all of this hair suddenly everywhere, and he could see the tufts of blonde fur from his nose and cheeks in his peripherals. It was a little distracting, and his focus on Stella's aim wasn't the greatest because of it, coupled with her position changing from what he'd been used to. Now with a spell coming from another angle, the boy jumped aside, his grip reflexively tightening on his wand in fear of being disarmed. Not that he thought it'd have made much of a difference if he'd been hit. As the spell whizzed past him, the Gryffindor pointed his wand back at his opponent. "Stupefy!"

Stella stood up straight again, trying to prepare for the next attack. Though she knew her defenses were slipping since she kept getting distracted by the boy's antics. Was this all part of his plan? To make her laugh in order to weaken her defense? She heard his spell coming before she finished casting her shield charm so the stunning spell hit her before it was up.
