Y30 Dueling Match #20

[Jon Phillips]

Jon lead the pair of fifth years onto the dueling platform. It was the second round of the tournament and he was sure the students already knew the rules but he explained them anyway, just in case they needed a reminder. When the students were at opposite ends of the stage Jon stepped away so the duel could begin.​

Merrill had been a weepy mess since her parents sentence. She had hardly left her dorm room except to sneak a little food from the great hall every now, and then. But the idea of a duel at least got her interested enough to come down here. The first one had been exciting, and maybe a little exercise would be good for her. She bowed to her opponent, and didn't hesitate once the duel began. "Reducto!" Merrill cast in an instant. Last time she had tried to make Hunter unable to duel. This time she was just using force.

Zoe did the usual, which was bowing and getting to her place. But her opponent was quick to draw, which made her duck for cover. Zoe narrowed her eyes and cast an expelliarmus toward Merrill Piper.

Merrill's lips curled into a smile when Zoe cast back. She quickly threw up a shield to protect herself from the other girls disarming spell, and fired back with a stunning spell. "Stupefy!" she called out while trying to aim directly for Zoe.

The spell her opponent used was a very easy one to block with her Protego. Zoe's mind thought quickly as she debated on what spell to use. She finally thought of one within a few seconds, but not enough for an opening for her opponent. She intoned, "Obscuro!"

Merrill tried to dodge out of the way of zoe’s spell, but was just a second too slow. She cursed under her breath as her vision went black. Thank-fully she was able to reverse the spell quick enough to still be in the duel.
