Kennedy led the two students up onto the raised platform where they would be competing and directed April to the north end while Gideon took the south end. She explained the rules to them thoroughly for their safety, as well as the points system, and then stepped off the stage for them to begin.
OOCOut of Character:
Make sure that you use the spell list for guidance. No board rule breaking is acceptable. Have fun! I have a copy of the code that you should use with every post. Remember, when you are knocked out, unable to shoot anymore spells, you lost. And if you run out of points, you lose.
The duel begins now. If someone doesn't post after 24 hours, they are disqualified.

Gideon hadn't expected to win his duel as it progressed further. It had been fun, but being set alight had really shown just how serious a duel could be. He was thankful that the burn on his leg had been healed between the matches, and now as he stood facing his new opponent, he wondered if he should just focus on what he was doing instead of messing about. The Gryffindor was the first to raise his wand, and he quickly cast the first disabling spell that came to mind. "Expelliarmus."

April was very excited for her first ever duel, and she smiled happily at the boy that was going to be her opponent. She knew him from the Halloween feast earlier in the year and she thought he worked in her aunt's store. Neither of those things would stop her from beating him though! She waved at him instead of bowing and only barely got her shield charm up in time when he started with his first spell. "Petrificus Totalus!" She yelled in return, pointing her wand at the boy.

Gideon had waved back at April. It was going to be different, dueling someone he knew. Sara had been fun - at least, right up until she'd burned him, but she had apologised and he couldn't really blame her. It was all a part of the duel. Here was hoping he wouldn't have a repeat of the last match. Some of the other students he'd watched between his matches took it so seriously, and he'd signed up just to have fun, and because some of his friends had. Speaking of fun, Gideon cast up a shield, and returned fire with a quick "Rictusempra!". The Gryffindor had wanted to keep it light, and figured if she was laughing too much to be able to pronounce any spells properly, he'd win for sure.

April grinned at the boy's choice of spell, but was still glad to be in time with her shielding charm to block it. She jumped to the side for seemingly no reason, though she hoped it would perhaps catch him off guard when she sent her own spell back. "Expelliarmus!" She shouted, pointing her wand at him again.

Seeing April jump aside apparently out of the blue, after already blocking his spell and no longer needing to avoid it, was confusing. If he had a moment to think about it, he might have guessed that was the whole point. As it was, he barely had time to defend himself from her disarming charm, taking a quick step back to increase the distance between them as he threw up his own protego. "Uh." For a moment he struggled to think of a spell, despite how many there were to use, and how many he'd already tried, his mind kept falling back to Scriopea or Reparo. completely random spells that were utterly useless in this situation. "Stupefy!" He shouted, finally coming to something that should have been obvious before.

April giggled when Gideon hesitated and seemed to take a while to think of a spell. It wasn't meant in a mean way, she could relate. Instead of taking the extra few moments to think of a spell herself, she waited until he sent a stunning spell her way which she blocked with another shielding charm. Then she had the same problem Gideon had moments before. Blinking, she paused before deciding to just copy him. "Stupefy!" She shouted in return.

Gideon was thankful that April had waited. He didn't know why he'd struggled, and felt kind of dumb for it, but as the Hufflepuff girl effectively did the same thing, he couldn't help but chuckle to himself. Dueling was odd. He wasn't sure how he felt about it, but it was certainly not what he'd expected. Maybe it was just his duels, and he'd been lucky to not have anything too serious. "Protego!" The Gryffindor called, shielding himself from Aprils stun. "Expelliarmus!"

April was a very competitive person, but she was glad this duel didn't seem as ruthless and fast-paced as some of the others she had seen. She liked Gideon and wouldn't mind hanging out with him sometime after the duel. Perhaps they could spar to prepare for the next year? He blocked her charm and sent a disarming spell her way, which she blocked in turn. Trying to be more creative, she sent a jelly fingers curse at him. It would probably make him drop his wand if it hit, and maybe it would be kind of funny too.

Gideon threw up another shield, narrowly avoiding the jelly fingers jinx. April was spicing the duel up, and Giddy decided to abandon the one-hit wonders in favour of a more interesting and versatile range. He didn't care much for winning, so he figured he'd try and make the most of their time on the stage regardless of the outcome. Waving his wand, he sent a fur-growing spell her way, a spell he never saw used at all often enough.

I totally keep messing up my points too and have to edit on the sly, don't even sweat it
