This family trip to France, which had turned out to be one of Kady's favourite holidays, had taken an unexpected turn as the family had headed north. They were now in a small vilage, completely snowed in, but happy. All were used to cold weather and extreme conditions, from living in Alaska and all bundled up in scarves, gloves and coats spent more time wandering around the white streets than in their warm hotel room. Kady had left her parents and younger brother in an antique shop, completely uninterested in the cheap little trinkets and tea pots. She kept walking down the almost deserted street, the snow making almost all the houses and shops look identical. Looking back over her shoulder, her confidence in being able to find the little antique shop again began to fade. However she kept walking, not even knowing where she was going. The silence and solitude of the winter's day was making her feel completely peaceful and at ease, and she could feel her numb feet following an unknown course.
Abruptly the seemingly endless rows of houses and shops ended, giving way to a what might be a dirt road, bordered by empty fields covered in several feet of snow. Kady knew that this was where the invisible peaceful pull had meant to take her. Pulling her gloves off and fumbling with cold hands in the pockets of her thick coat, Kady pulled out her beloved camera that never left her sight. She took a picture of the beautiful scene, before replacing her camera and taking several steps in the field, sinking up to her knees in powder. Turning to face the road, she spread her arms and let herself fall back into snow. Familiar bliss overcame her as her eyes closed and se drifted off into her imagination.
