This year has been an absolute disaster for New Zealand. Scitorari gatherings, trials, recruitments, distrust amongst the ranks of the aurors, but now we have the trial of Zannon Matthias, the brother of the current Deputy Minister. Many will remember the tragic murder of Riley Sparkles who left behind two young children and a husband. The late daughter of the Hogwarts Headmistress was apparently murdered after coming into contact with the man who was, at the time, dating her mother. This is a huge scandal for the Sparkles and Matthias families. People on the street should be questioning whether or not Mikhail Matthias is really fit for his position with someone like his brother in the family tree. Zannon Matthias was brought before the entire Wizengamot today, accused of Riley's murder. The trial started out as normally as it can, with Zannon Matthias claiming innocence over the whole situation. The wizengamot members were allowed to question both Zannon Matthias and the auror on the case, Amauri Chevalier and the trial quickly spiraled downhill from there. Whilst Mr. Chevalier had explained his side of what had happened, there were enough holes in the story to warrant several members of the Wizengamet to speak up and question the intentions and execution of the arrest. Some questioned his use of veritiserum, others questioned his connections to the prisoner and another questioned the Aurors own skills. When the trial finally turned its attention back to Zannon Matthias, only more holes were revealed when another name appeared. Monty. After some digging, it became clear that Monty, a professor at Hogwarts New Zealand, was present for the arrest and capture of Zannon Matthias and though he had now proclaimed his guilt, the wizengamot had become a bedrock of unrest. Wizengamot member Carter Kaster questioned Mr. Chevalier's methods and suggested he may need to retire early, a sentiment many others seemed to share. The senior auror did not seem to take this well and was seen berating the wizengamot before storming out. It is unclear whether he quit, but the head auror seemed to agree that Amauri Chevalier was out of line. The trial ended with a unanimous decision to sentence Zannon Matthias to life in prison.
