Amity was feeling a little tired, it had been a difficult few days, she hadn't known that trying to find her origins would be quite this difficult. Travelling around with Elliot had been one of the only good parts of it, he was useful to her, a good friend and someone who could remind her of her task if she strayed too far. The former Ravenclaw had traced her roots back to an orphanage in the west of China, but she hadn't really gotten much further, gaining access to the documents was hard, and there was very little evidence of who her parents had been. She was sure this was due to her name likely being different on any birth certificate, had her parents actually bothered to get one, which was the slight hold up, no matter what they tried, or whomever they spoke to, nothing seemed to work. That was until that very day, when in the early hours of the day, Amity had gotten a phone call, on the muggle phone which Elliot had helped her buy and it had been someone on the other end, telling her that they'd found something that she might want to see, something that would interest her greatly. Hurriedly then, Amity had gotten out of bed, and began getting ready for the day, half still on the phone to the woman at the other end as she got herself up and searching for clothes. Hanging up when they had arranged a time and place where this information could be exchanged. Amity threw the phone on the bed and then continued to find clothes for the day. Travelling threw up many issues and one of them was remembering to wash clothes, which was why each day took a little time to figure out what was clean and what was not. Thankfully, Amity usually took the time every so often to find a laundromat to clean both their clothes.

It was as she pulled on a fresh, and clean pair of jeans, that Amity decided to go wake up Elliot, who had been sleeping on the other bed in the room, he was a fairly deep sleeper, and while Amity didn't try to keep quiet she just generally did, having spent so much in dorms, she'd gotten fairly good at just keeping fairly quiet. She shook his shoulder, "Elliot!" she whispered loudly, not quite yelling, but not speaking in a soft whisper, "Elliot, come on get up," she told him, moving away from him to continue getting ready, grabbing more clothes and rushing into the bathroom to get changed into them, she had forgone a shower that day, most just because she didn't want to waste a moment of this time before meeting this woman and whatever information she might have for them. Amity stared at her reflection in the mirror, musing up her hair, and applying a light amount of make-up, hastily done as she rushed to get everything else done, "You better be ready out there Elliot by the time I'm done in here," she called out to him, before then continuing to get changed, assuming that he probably wouldn't be, but just wanting to press it along, of course she hadn't yet actually told him what was happening, so when she reemerged from the bathroom, and noticed he was only just managing to get out of bed, she scowled at him slightly, knowing that it was likely her fault that he had no idea what was happening, and that he should rush, "We're meeting a woman who says she can help us in like an hour, hurry," she told him, taking a deep breath and reminding herself to be calm, before giving him a nervous smile and turning to pack a bag of stuff for the day, they had no time to lose.

Elliot had never ventured outside Australia's borders before, so the culture shock and jet lag he encountered since arriving to China were experiences on a whole other tier of unknown to him. He had googled what jet lag was when he arrived, learning that one of the ways to metaphorically kick it with a boot was to wait to fall asleep at night time no matter how long that would take. It was something he had tried to do, but failed miserably at during the course of his travels with Amity and by the time they made it to the western part of China the jet lag had not changed one bit. He had blamed it on the fact he was always a heavy sleeper and thought that changing the routine he had embedded himself into since leaving high school years ago had become impossible. The jet lag and his tendency to sleep at weird times in general had once again kept Elliot from waking up early that morning, until Amity's voice in an urgent whisper rung in his ears, causing him to finally open his eyes as he sighed and turned from lying on his stomach to face the ceiling so he could wonder what the hell his travel companion was doing at this time of the morning and more importantly, why she had woken him up. During their trip so far she always waited until he had at least opened his eyes before they continued their search for her biological family. He felt inwardly grumpy from being woken up so suddenly and needing to be woken up in the first place, but if the circumstances of being woken up rather than waking up at his own pace like usual were anything to go by, it seemed like Amity had found some sort of lead.

Elliot yawned, looking around the room for anything, a piece of paper or book that might have been the cause for Amity to wake him up but his tired eyes had found nothing. He felt so comfortable and warm under the covers of the hotel bed, and wanted to just curl up and fall asleep again but now that he was awake and Amity had probably found a lead they couldn't just let it slip from between their fingers since they had searched for so long. He fought every urge he had to return to slumber land and moved to finally get out of bed. He opened his mouth to question Amity about what was happening when she re-entered the room but she had already answered the question for him. The tiredness on his mind immediately became a forgotten thought as he began to get ready. Really anything he was feeling this morning had been forgotten because his suspicions that Amity had found some sort of lead were true and there was no way in hell he would let something as insignificant as his tiredness get in the way of their searching when they had come too far and traveled too much to phone in and quit now. He reached his arm down to the floor, so he could retrieve the pair of skinny jeans he had worn the previous day which he attempted to slip on quickly so they wouldn't lose time but in the process he managed to lose his balance and fall over with a thud. Elliot managed to avoid hurting himself and barely missed hitting his head on the bed side table but he did need a moment to recover which he used for an opportunity to explain to Amity how tired he felt. As if he had not said the exact same thing every morning since they left Australia. "Holy crap I'm tired." His voice sounded husky, as it usually did when he had just woken up and had yet to become entirely coherent of his surroundings. When he regained his bearings, he stood from his place on the floor and pulled the jeans on over his boxers. He figured the t-shirt he had slept in would suffice for today but took the liberty of asking in case the person they were meeting or the place they were meeting them required an outfit that consisted of things neater than day old clothing. "I don't need to wear anything fancy, do I?" He half turned in Amity's direction, standing in wait for her answer and hoping he did not have to make the effort to change.

Amity had never thought she'd ever find anything about her parents, after all the dead ends, she'd been admittedly losing hope in ever finding anything, but being in China had helped her feel a little more confident about it all. She wasn't sure what this lead might bring them, but she was keen to follow it up. Amity wanted to work harder at finding her parents and this lead, no matter how big or small it ended up being she just wanted to be able to find it and hopefully take the smallest step forward. Amity had been waiting for something even this small for a little while and she just wanted this to happen, she wanted to find her biological family, even if her real family were people she loved dearly and respected hugely for their commitment to herself, her elder sister and her little brother. There was just a part of Amity that wanted this lead to be something that got her what she wanted, she wanted to find who they were and then maybe just maybe be able to have a conversation with them. No part of Amity assumed that she would be able to just fight in with whatever families they now had, she didn't want that, all the girl really wanted was to know who they were and maybe even why. It didn't matter how great they were now, her family was never going to be them, it would always be her parents in Australia and her two siblings, she couldn't ever imagine not spending time with them. She couldn't ever imagine not watching her brother learn how to surf from Elliot whom she had realised in her time with him, had really been a staple of her life, even if she'd barely noticed him until they'd spoken and ended up doing this.

At his works she just shook her head, "No fancy clothes required," she told Elliot as she packed up what stuff they would need today, she had no interest in figuring out what she'd really need and was just grabbing random things and really hoping she'd managed to get everything. Her brain knowing that she had a lead was working far faster than it did normally, pushing her and even just stressing her out. She hadn't felt like this since they'd impulsively decided to come to China, the excitement and the joy over pursuing her parents had made Amity a little more impulsive than she might have otherwise been. Deciding that she had everything, Amity glanced at Elliot and gave a small sigh at the fact he wasn't yet ready, "Come on Elliot," she nagged him with a hurried tone, just trying to move them along and towards where they needed to be, in all this time that they'd been travelling together the girl had struck pretty lucky, Elliot barely complained about any of her slightly more emotional turns, he just dealt with them as they came and she was definitely thankful for that, so the moment he had was finally ready, Amity just grabbed her bag, slipped on the shoes, did a small double check, and then looked to him, "Got everything?" she said hurriedly, and then dragged him from the hotel room, directions in her hand as to where they needed to go, she didn't understand Chinese having never learned it, but between the two of them, they managed to get to where the instructions said, and it was there, stood outside the office of the person they were meeting that Amity froze, adrenaline leaving her suddenly, unable to push herself forward into the office, "I can't do this Elliot, what if it's another dead end," she whispered to him, reaching for his hand and grabbing it lightly, needing the comfort and just hoping he wouldn't mind, perhaps he might be able to sway her into entering but she just needed to gather her courage.

Amity's words only confirmed what Elliot's instincts had already told him; that she had a lead and was pacing the hotel room in frantics trying to gather everything she needed. He nodded along, burying his lingering tiredness so he could follow suit and and gather everything he thought he would need for the day. He picked his wallet and phone from the bedside table he had fallen against moments ago and shoved them both into the back pockets of his jeans before turning back to Amity and giving her another nod to show he was ready to leave. When they left the hotel room behind he made sure the spare key he had was still in his wallet and that was everything he needed to do, and all he could do to prepare for the day because he knew nothing about the lead Amity had besides the fact it was a lead, and the fact it must have been something more than the long list of dead ends they had already found if she was in frantics over it at such an early hour of the morning.

Elliot followed Amity around the city, choosing not to ask anything about the lead and wordlessly letting her show him where to go while his mind wandered as they traveled and slowly began wake up to the world with every step closer to their destination. He bought a can of cola from a small store on the way and by the time they arrived in front of a tall, intimidating building, the small amount of caffeine from the can in his system and spending time in the outside world had woken him up enough to bring him to his senses. It was in this gradually achieved state of alertness did Elliot fully notice Amity's frantics hadn't subsided, that she was even more anxious about this than she was in the hotel room, and that she was worried she couldn't walk into the building and was looking to him for comfort by squeezing his hand. Elliot wasn't a stranger to comforting people; he had been a shoulder to cry on for his two younger sisters when they had made stupid decisions over a boy too many times for him to count. But this more than just petty teenage drama. This was about a journey of discovery, about Amity finding out who her biological family was and Elliot had no idea how to handle it. He felt like he was walking a fine line, like anything he could say in response to her might be the wrong thing so he didn't do anything at first apart from squeeze Amity's hand in return. After a few moments of thinking he realized that throwing caution to the wind might help Amity more than reassuring her that she could do this and that everything would be fine. He took a step forward, not letting go of Amity's hand and trying to urge her to follow him. "You know, if Archie was here, he'd just walk in." He chuckled and freed his hand from hers so he could walk over to the door. He pulled the door half open and turned back to Amity, a wide grin taking over his face. "What are you waiting for?"
