Felix grinned at himself in the mirror of the dorms as he ran his hand through his hair as a way of fixing his hair and styling it nicely. He didn't know what dress Maddie was wearing but he had asked about the colour so that he could try and match her. He wasn't really sure how well he'd done in picking anything out, but he supposed he would be seeing soon enough. He headed out of his common room and walked up the stairs to the gryffindor tower. He was waiting for Maddie so that they could walk down together. He couldn't wait to see what Maddie would be wearing and he was excited to be spending the time with her. He'd not really been paying enough attention to her in the last couple of weeks and he blamed himself for it because he was so busy spending time with his best friend. Having a girl friend was certainly different than a regular friend and he owed Maddie a fun time at the ball.
OMG I am so rusty I'm sorry xD

The Yule Ball had crept up on Maddie quickly, she was so busy with classes and navigating her way through boy drama that she had hardly planned anything for the ball. Luckily, she had brought her dress with her at the start of the year so that was one less thing she had to worry about. The thing she was most looking forward to that evening was spending some quality time with her boyfriend. Maddie hadn't seen Felix that much during the past semester and she was missing him so she was glad that they had the opportunity of the ball to spend some time together.

Felix said he would meet her outside Gryffindor tower and she was starting to get butterflies as the time drew closer. She fixed her hair one last time and headed down to the common room. She took a deep breath and walked out of the room to see Felix waiting for her just outside the portrait. Her eyes lit up as she saw him and she decided to run up to him and give him a hug. Maddie threw her arms around Felix and held him a little tighter than usual before breaking away. "You look so nice, Fee!" she said, complimenting him. She had a large grin on her face that wouldn't shift, Maddie was so excited for the night ahead.

Felix had been anticipating seeing Maddie all day, but actually laying eyes on her was different to what he is imagined. She looked amazing and she was his girlfriend and she was so amazing. Felix was so lucky that Maddie allowed him to accompany her to the Yule ball. He swung her around slightly as she hugged him and set her back on the ground. "Wow, Mads, you look lovely, amazing, I can't even tell you because I'm horrible at descriptions!" she really did look so good and he wished he could put it into words. "Thanks for saying yes." he added as he held out his arm to escort her to the ball.

Maddie giggled when Felix spun her around, he always knew how to cheer her up and she was so glad to see him. She blushed when he complimented her appearance "do you really think so?" she said spinning in her dress, grinning. She felt great and couldn't wait to start having a fantastic night with Felix. Maddie took his arm that he offered to her and smiled at him "of course I was going to say yes. There wasn't even any doubt in my mind" she said, squeezing his arm with her free hand. "Shall we go?" she asked Fee, continuing to hold onto his arm with both of her hands. She didn't want to let go of him just yet. It was the first time in a long time that she was able to get him on his own.

Felix smiled and nodded at Maddie, she was very pretty indeed and that dress did wonders for her. "I'd never lie to you! Well, unless you ask me for homework help, because then I'm busy!" he was joking of course, mostly, but he was terrible at school work. Maddie knew that. Felix laughed slightly. "Maybe you had no doubt, I thought you'd be a bit mad that I've neglected spending one with you, to which I'm so sorry by the way." he'd not even really been busy, but was trying to learn to juggle his relationships. She squeezed his arm and they headed towards the staircase and down to the great hall. "Tonight is all about you."

"Join the club!" Maddie replied to Felix's statement about homework. She thought back to the past classes and the only thing she was actually good at was Care of Magical Creatures. Her other classes were not as great. She didn't expect her exams to go well, even after help from her friends who were good at their own homework. She felt a little guilty that Felix was apologising to her for not spending much time with her. Truth be told, Maddie did feel a little neglected by her boyfriend. It was probably why she had spent so much time with another boy, James. Who was not her boyfriend and who had a girlfriend of his own. It was innocent though, everyone knew James and Maddie didn't like each other and Maddie adored Felix, even though he did ignore her a little during the past semester.

She shook her head "it's okay, I understand" she lied. Truthfully, she didn't understand why he hadn't spent much time with her but she was just thankful for the time that they would have together during the ball. "You don't have to apologise, Fee" she explained. She smiled and added "tonight is about us".

Felix laughed along with Maddie. They appeared to be as bad as each other when it came to paying attention to their homework. "We should start our own club. I think we'd make great team leaders. I'd like to give out some cookies or maybe like juice as a prize for good work." He'd given this some thought after all, be quite enjoyed club life but hadn't really found a club that he liked at this point. He'd thought about a coupe of clubs and even asked Lyra but she'd been pretty much no help and Marcella thought that he should just do what he wanted, but he didn't know what he wanted to do and that was why he had been asking for help.

They were coming up to the great hall now as Felix grinned. "I'm determined to make sure you have a great night, a really perfect night actually so I hope you're prepared." Marcella had suggested flowers, but that wasn't really him and so he'd decided on getting something a bit more long lasting, but he wasn't going to give it to her until the end of the night, he certainly hope she would like it.

Maddie grinned and nodded along with what Fee was saying "we totally should. A homework club for people that can't be bothered. An excuse to eat food and bond over how useless homework is" she said excitedly. Any opportunity for Maddie to eat and meet new people pleased her immensely, which is why she liked Heta Omega so much. It was just a shame that it took her till her third year to find out about it and join the club.

She could hear the music booming behind the huge wooden door in the Great Hall and Maddie grew even more excited by the minute. She tugged on Felix's arm, she needed to get into the hall straight away to start dancing. "We'll have a great night, as long as you can keep up with my dancing" she said winking at the Hufflepuff boy. The two young Hogwarts students were going to have an incredible night, a night that Maddie would treasure forever.

Failing the homework club, Felix rather enjoyed just being with people. He was very good at making people happy even when he wasn't happy himself and that was down thing he knew he would enjoy doing and would probably even make sure that it would be of interest to others as well. Felix was a very personable guy and the inclusion of students for the sake of it would have inporessed him immensely. Homework was never fun after all but it was good if they could get something done even if only to acknowledge that yes, they do pay attention to whats happening in the world. But there's. Or much that they can do about it except just learn. Hardest Lesson ever learnt was that not everyone is special all the time.

The whole atmosphere of the hall got Felix immediately excited for the dance floor. The aesthetic and the general set up was perfect and be was coming closer than ever to his idea of a perfect night. "I can certainly try!" He had half his brain on Maddie, a quarter on everyone else and the last part on when he would be giving Maddie bee gift. He was a very good gift giver if he did say so himself, tailor made gifts for everyone was his selfproclaimed talent and that he liked helping others and so pretty much had a told anyone wjonwould listen that he was finding a gift for Maddie and yet amazingly they'd all sort of brushed him off, oh well, even if she knew about the gift, which he doubted, she's not know what he was giving her, which he hoped she'd love as much as he did. "Whenever you're ready!"

They walked into the Great Hall and it was decorated so beautifully, it always astounded Maddie how amazing the Hall could look during big events like this. She turned to Felix and smiled widely at him, being at the the Yule Ball with him was perfect. She grabbed his hand and dragged him onto the dance floor. She pushed past a lot of people to find the perfect spot. She waved at a couple of people that she recognised but mostly her attention was on Fee. Maddie took his hand and twirled under it and giggled as she did so. After a few more songs Maddie hugged her boyfriend and said "Aw, i'm having such a nice time with you tonight Fee."

Felix was t really much of a dancer but he generally enjoyed dancing anyway. Mostly he was enjoying being with Maddie, she was his priority and he didn't care about what anyone else was doing as long as Maddie was having a good time. Of course he had the wellbeing of his friends on the back of his mind too, but mostly Maddie was the only person her cared about right now, though thiughts of Silus occasionally crept in and Felix wondered if he'd need to save Lyra from his existence at some point in the night. He certainly hoped not, she could take care of herself after all and it would just totally ruin his night. "I'm glad that you are. I am too and I'm really glad that I've not yet stepped on your toes, which believe me is an achievement." Soon the music was slowing and Felix moved closer to Maddie. "Slow dance?"

Maddie smiled at Felix when he said that, he too, was having a good night. She felt all her worries slip away and it felt like the beginning of a new start, for Maddie and for her relationship with Fee. She laughed at his comment on his dancing "no, you seem to be dancing pretty well, my toes are fine!" Soon, the music changed tempo and Maddie agreed to a slow dance with Felix. She put her hands on his shoulders and slowly swayed in time to the music. She closed her eyes and savoured every moment of the dance: the music, the atmosphere and her date.

The slow dance was the measure of every relationship. Couples slow danced with each other for years and Felix kind of liked it if he was honest. Maddie was beautiful and he really really liked her. He'd never have asked her to be his girlfriend if he didn't. They'd got on well since the first day they'd met and he'd always enjoyed spending time with her. He'd thought nothing of it for a while until he was finding excuses to spend more time with her. He realised things were a bit different with Maddie towards the end of their second year. "I'd hope so, I wouldn't want to hurt them and ruin this night." He grinned. This was easily a perfect night so far and as dates went he was quite proud of this one.

Some hours later the night was winding down and Felix and Maddie were a couple of the only ones still here. Most of the people who'd turned up solo had left early on and it was really only the couples who'd stayed. "Maddie, I really enjoy tonight." he told her. "And before we leave here tonight I have something to give you."

Maddie shook her head "nothing could ruin this night. Absolutely nothing" she said thinking about the one dance she had with James and how it might not have been one of her best ideas but it had definitely given her some closure and now she was completely focused on Fee and she hoped that he was focused on her. This second semester would be completely different, Maddie would be completely different too.

Her eyes lit up when Felix revealed that he had a present for her. "You have something... for me?" she asked, smiling widely. What on earth could he have for her? She almost couldn't contain her excitement as she stood before him on the dance floor.

Felix smiled. He was glad she was happy to be with him. He'd been more than a little worried. He really liked Maddie, she was very dear to him. She seemed genuinely happy and so he was as well. However when she spoke again, he was a bit surprised that she was so surprised that he had found a gift for her. He liked to think highly of his gift giving abilities, but this would really be the big test. He'd never given something with this much meaning before. He liked bestowing gifts on people, but this was a little bit different. He grinned as she stood eagerly in front of him and fished through his pocket. The box that contained his gift was black and velvet, but the package was not the important thing, he could have wrapped it in bubble wrap and it would have the same effect as far as he was concerned.

"I know how much you love being outdoors and my mum could tell you how many broken bones I've had just from my biking, but I wanted to make sure that you were always protected." He opened the velvet box and presented Maddie with a Protection Stone in the shape of a heart. He hoped she liked it. This was a gift that took him some time to think about. "It's both a gift of protection and an apology. I know you've already accepted me saying sorry, but this is my last piece." He pulled it out and held it up for her to see. "Do you like it?"

Maddie eagerly waited for the gift as she listened intently to Felix's explanation for it. She felt her heart swell with love as he mentioned that he always wanted her to be protected, especially because of her love of the outdoors. She grabbed his arm and smiled at him as he pulled out the black velvet box. She let out a gasp as Felix took what looked like a necklace out of the jewelry box and held it up for her to see. She gazed at the stone, she was completely in love with it. "Fee, this is absolutely perfect. I love it so much!" she squealed hugging the Hufflepuff boy. "It's my favourite colour too! How did you know?" she said smiling. "I love it and i'm never taking it off!" she exclaimed. "Would you like to put it on me?" she asked, turning her back to him so he could attach it round her neck.

Felix was more than happy that Maddie was happy with her gift. Her excitement not helped to excite him about giving it to her. He wasn't sure what he as so worried about. He should have known she would like it, he'd been very particular and done his research. He smiled warmly at her. "I'm really glad you like it Maddie, I really am." He only grinned as she asked how he knew her favourite colour. He shrugged, he would keep his secrets and use them later. She turned around and asked if he wanted to put it on her and he laughed slightly, stepping behind her and lifting it over her head. Once he'd fixed the clasp he stepped back away and held his hands out to her. "Want to finish our dance?"

Nothing could wipe the smile off her face, especially after the perfect gift that Felix had just given her. She touched the stone as Felix clasped the necklace shut around her nice, it was beautiful and it meant so much to her already. she spun back around when he was finished and nodded her head at Fee's question. "Id love to finish our dance" she said taking his hand and returning to their original position. She hugged him all that more closer this time, not wanting the night to end so soon.

Felix smiled and held Maddie close to him as they danced. The last song was coming to an end right now and Felix smiled at Maddie. This was a very nearly perfect ending to a perfect night and as the song slowed and came to a finish, Felix closed the distance between them and finally ended their night with a long overdue kiss.
