Charlie had been busy exploring the school, curious as to what he could see. He wanted his dad to know everything about this school, about this new life, about everything. He had been wondering around the school for a few hours, taking notes of things that looked interesting. He was on his way outside, but stopped when he heard the music. He followed the sound, peeking into the room it was coming from. There was an entire room full of musical instruments, soft notes from each of them playing throughout the room, almost as if they were trying to lure him in. He made his way into the room, curiosity taking over.

Music had never been a large part of his life. Sure, he'd listened to it from time to time, but usually in passing on the radio. He walked around the room, looking over everything. The big piano, the guitar, the bass, the cello. All of the instruments he passed were too... big. Intimidating. He was looking at a trumpet, but it was too loud and obnoxious, and so was the sax. He looked around a bit, not really noticing anything else as he lost himself in his own musing.

Dmitri was exploring the castle, he'd left the courtyard for last, mostly because he'd been busy looking at portraits and looking at the books in the library. He had his journal with him, mostly writing down and doodling cool things he'd noticed at Hogwarts. As he walked around, Dmitri noticed there was a room he'd missed while looking around the previous day before.

He could hear music, something he'd always been drawn to, but could never do anything from. Dmitri had tried playing more than several instruments, that is, before giving up and deciding to just never touch an instrument again. He was simply, not musically inclined. The only thing he could play was his kalimba, most people tended to not know what it is when he'd show them it. He walked into the room and saw a boy looking around, perhaps one of the instruments were his? "Do you know how to play?" He asked, curious. Dmitri walked closer to the boy and smiled slightly.

Charlie jumped a little when he heard someone speak, his cheeks flushing automatically. He straightened, turning to his guest with a shy smile. "What? Me? No, no I can't play," he laughed nervously, rubbing his arm. "Can you?" He asked, looking up to the other boy.

“Oh, I see.” He said, simply, his smile still gentle. Dmitri chuckled a little when he asked if he could play. “Me? No. I can only play this.” He said softly, and reached for his pocket. Out of the pocket, he produced a box-like looking instrument with thin metal boards. He played a single note, to demonstrate. His father had gotten it for Dmitri for one of his birthdays, though he couldn’t quite remember which one.

Charlie watched as the boy pulled out the little box from his pockets. Charlie's eyes widened as he looked at it, and he couldn't help but smile softly. "Oh, I've seen that before, one of the kids at school had one. They were terrible at playing it though," he laughed lightly, looking up to the boy. "Um, my name is Charlie," he offered, holding out his hand. He noticed the boys' journal and his eyes lit up a little. "Oh, do you journal too?" He asked.

School? Dmitri thought. Did other kids not go through homeschooling? He knew most muggleborns went to school before hogwarts but did other magical kids go to school before hogwarts too? Maybe the boy was a muggleborn. He pushed the thought away, he'd think about it more later. "Nice to meet you, I'm Dmitri." He said to the boy. "Uh, yes. I do. It's um mostly rubbish though." He rubbed his right arm, a bit bashful.

Charlie smiled softly, tucking the name away for future reference. He laughed lightly as the boy said it was rubbish. "Journaling is never good or bad," He told the boy. "Journaling is... it's putting yourself onto paper. You can't be bad at that," He reassured the other boy, even if he wasn't sure he was all that reassuring. "What brought you in here?" Charlie asked, changing the subject idly and looking around again.

Dmitri wondered a little what other people would think about his writing and poetry, he hadn't shown anyone his notebooks before and for now, he never really planned to, but the boy's words did mean something to him. "Well I guess so.." He said to Charlie, his voice trailing off slightly. "The music, I heard it from outside, in the corridor. " That and he was just curious about the room. Dmitri had tried to explore all of the rooms he'd encountered. "Uh, You?"

Charlie smiled. "Hey, I'm a New Yorker. That means I'm always right," He teased lightly. His own journal was tucked in his bag, but he didn't think pulling it out at this moment might be a little tacky. He smiled as Dmitri told him why he was here. "It's actually the same for me. I was wondering around taking notes when I heard the music." He laughed a little.

Dmitri nodded slowly, he didn't know what being a New Yorker had to do with being right but he decided to go with it for now. "What were you taking notes for?" He asked. To Dmitri's knowledge, most students hadn't began studying yet for any classes and he didn't think there was anything from the castle that related to school. Was he just learning about the castle like he was?

Charlie smiled softly, running a hand through his hair. "I'm just looking around, really, learning about the castle. If we're going to be here for a long time I might as well know more about where we live." He shrugged. He looked around the room. "I've... never really been away from home before, so... taking notes makes me feel a little bit more in control."
