Kate groaned, her groggy eyes trying to open. She was feeling particularly awful , she hadn't been sleeping well at all this evening. She had once again woken up, a pain ricocheting in her abdomen. She clenched her teeth, letting the pain pass before breathing once more. She sighed, trying to sit up. With only three-four weeks left Kate's belly was huge and it was a struggle lifting herself up. She didn't want to shake the bed too much in case she woke up poor Stefan. He had a tough time as it was. They were all still reeling in shock over his uncle's death. She looked at her watch and sighed once more. This was her fourth or fifth time waking up and it was now turning into the early stages of the morning. She was growing concerned. She felt as almost as if she were on her period except it was accompanied by a headache and a general feeling of being uncomfortable. Each time she woke up, the pain increased. She couldn't be in labour, could she? It was still to early, the baby wasn't finished growing yet. But these pains in her abdomen sounded exactly like that of contractions. Kate grew bit her lip. This is where she really felt her lack of experience. She grimaced figuring they really needed to get to St Mungos. This was just what they needed, an extra burden on top of what had already happened. She gently woke Stefan up before informing him what was happening. Quickly they gathered what they could in the short time they had before making their way to St Mungos.
"Labour, you're in labour" was all that was going through her head. She wanted to tell them to stop it, to make sure her baby stayed inside her but it was too late, she was too far gone to attempt anything like that. A part of her still didn't understand, she didn't remember her waters breaking or doing anything that would cause the baby to start coming now. But even as she thought this, she could feel the wetness. She wanted to cry but instead she clenched her hands, one on her bump and the other holding Stefan's hand. The pain was awful, the healers noticed her water had broken and they informed her and Stefan of the next form of action. They wanted to keep the baby in there for as long as they could so they would be able to give her an injection which would hopefully lessen the chance of any complications. Kate nodded her head, feeling slightly numb but keeping her tight grip on Stefan's hand. They would get through this, her, Stefan and the baby. Everyone was going to be fine and in the next few hours she would be holding their baby in her arms.
A few hours later..
Kate was exhausted. She was also sweaty and sore but unbelievably overjoyed. Although everyone had worried about the welfare of her and the baby, they were fine. In fact there seemed to be no real serious complications. A fact which had taken a huge weight off her shoulders. Kate now had a small baby boy lying on her chest. It was to help with his development process. He had been lying there for a couple of hours now and Kate hadn't been able to take her eyes off him. She knew all mothers probably thought this, but he was the most beautiful baby in the world, even with his little scrunched up face. Then it hit her, she was a mother. Of course ever since she became pregnant she knew she was, but now it was really starting to sink in. This little being depended on her and Stefan. It was essentially helpless. But she knew with all her heart she would give up her life for this baby. It had surprised her how much love she felt for someone she had only met a couple of hours ago. But here he was, after waiting for so long, her son now lay on top of her. The product of Stefan and her love. He had certainly entered the world with a bang. Kate smiled slightly, gently running her fingers down his arms. Despite the earlier panic, everything was quite peaceful now. A healer soon came and helped her feed the baby before wrapping him up and letting her hold him once again. Kate turned and looked over at Stefan, he had been unable to hold him yet due to the healers wanting to keep the baby close to Kate for the first few hours, just in case. "Here you go"She whispered, smiling.
